By far our favorite place to stay in Marathon. Been visiting the Keys for
over two decades, stayed in many other places but feel very comfortable
in this resort. The resort is a small timeshare community and
is open to the public for rentals. The units are very well laid out with
it's two bedrooms, two baths, living room, dining room and eat in kitchen.
The unit sleeps up to 6 people (the sofa sleeps two people) and has WiFi.
The swimming pool is large and shared with the adjacent hotel and there is a
Tiki Bar and hot tub. We usually visit in August and stay in building A,
which is closest to the marina and offers beautiful views of the Gulf. The
units date back to the early '80, which makes it relatively young compared
to many of the resorts in the Keys and they are well maintained and clean.
The units are reasonably priced considering they are the size of a
large apartment. I read a review that mentioned the mattresses need
updating, you will be happy to know that they were! The staff is friendly
and provide excellent service. We called the office to notify them of our
dryer not working, and within two hours they replaced it with a new one!!!
The outdoor grounds are very tropical and there is a picnic area with BBQ
pits and Tiki Huts. There is a small beach area at the end of the marina.
Nice to just sit in a lounge chair and relax under the shade of the palm
tree and take in the beautiful views of the ocean or the sunset. My
family and I met a nice couple who were docked at the marina. During their
fishing trip they caught a very large wahoo and were kind enough to offer us
several big pieces of the fish. We BBQ'ed the fish in the outdoor pits and it
For fun, there is a company on the premises that offers rentals for boats,
wave runners and kayaks. I love the resorts central location and it's close
proximity to shopping, supermarkets, restaurant's, and bars, some of which you can walk to.
Just minutes away are the beautiful views from the 7 mile bridge. A trip to Key
West is just 50 - 60 minutes away. Be sure to visit the Theater of the Sea
located in Islamorada. It's a Marine mammal park with lots to see and
learn. It offers swimming with the Dolphins and Sea Lions!
Some great restaurant's to eat at are Sparky's, located nearby in Key
Colony Beach, (you must have the grilled Grouper), the Sunset Grille, The Island
Fsh Co., The Key's Fisheries and Castaways. For breakfast try the
Stuffed Pig. If you enjoy fishing, I recommend the Marathon Lady which is just a
few miles from the resort; they have an excellent staff.
When on vacation I enjoy staying in places that offer me the same
amenities as home and Marathon Key Beach Club does that for my family.
Also, that last negative review was off line. Keep in mind that the Keys are
not about 5 star accommodations or fancy bars and clubs, that's what the
mainland is for. I am passionate about the Keys and visit every year for the past 2 + decades.
Before writing poor reviews people should do their research and temper their expectations.
I've read many poor reviews about resorts in the Keys and they are written by people who visited once and never staying at any of the other resorts. Their isn't a lot of land for big development so the Keys have a lot of old resorts. There are many places that are owned by individuals or a small timeshare community, like this one, that rely on the maintenance or rentals for the upkeep. These places don't have the deep pockets of large corporations and that I feel adds to the charm and character of the Keys. Enjoy the Keys for what it offers; good food, fishing, drinking, relaxing and all good things on or below the water!! I hope this review helps people.
