We stayed here last Christmas and I apologize for being so late in posting this review. This IS NOT the Marriott. If you want to stay at The Marriott then go on down to Key West. This is a 23 room small little independently owned hotel that is the way the Keys used to be. I was Extremely esceptical after reading the reviews, but my brother and his 2 teen children and I were going to get dive certified for the first 4 days and would not be at the hotel much anyway so how bad could it be?? We opened the door and they all said: My God - it is just like the cottage. Cottage living is not for everyone. No shops to shop in, bring your groceries as it is about 5 miles to the Publix. Cook your meals, bbque, or eat in the restaurant. The boats are small boston whalers, just as described. If you want a 24 foot with a bimini top - PAY FOR IT!!! We had a great time fishing. We caught fish and then gave them away to the dock hands. It really got to me when the people in the unit underneath us arrived and started to complain almost immediately. They went and bought groceries, cooked that night, had breakfast the next morning and then the guys went fishing in the free boats. They were still out in the Ocean when we were after 2:30 in the afternoon. After they had fished and the kids had a great time playing games on the beach, watching the fish that came to the dock and swimming in the pool, they then went to the front desk and complained and checked out and said the place was a dive. Check out time is 11AM. How Rude!! How can people be so shallow??? Everyone was very accommodating to us and as a matter of fact we booked it again for this year at Christmas/New Years. Those who want their bathing suit to match their sarong and want the Oakley sunglasses to impress someone - please just stay away. This is our cottage away from home complete with everything ours has in Canada including air conditioning, big open deck with chairs and a table, TV, two bedrooms, 2 baths, and a minimal amount of dishes so that you have to wash them often - but who cares. May not be for everyone, but we are active vacationers who are not trying to impress anyone, so bathing suites and T-Shirts are fine for us. Be a little more open minded people, but please don't book it for the free boats (which I have decided is what people do) Book it because you want a rather rustic cottage type vacation where youare trying to impress no one and enjoy your holiday.
