“Excellent accommodations in the middle Keys!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

My twelve year old son and I absolutely loved this sweet motel in Marathon. We chose it because we thought it would be convenient to be in the middle of the keys - easy access in both directions, and because of the positive reviews here. We had what amounted to a small suite - a bedroom with a small sitting area, a full kitchen, and a beautiful bathroom for an amazingly reasonable price. Everything was always very clean. The pool was small but sparkling clean and an absolute pleasure at the end of our long hot or sea-salty days. The owners were extremely friendly and very helpful with tips of things to do and places to go. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: We had room number 10, very near to the pool and far from the highway.

Whenever my husband and I visit the keys , marathon is our favorite key and Blue waters is where we always like to stay. you can always count on the rooms being fresh and clean. The owners and staff are friendly and accomidating. We usually bring our boat , their ramp and marina are easy to use . The location is excellent, its just a little north of the 7 mile bridge, so you can have access to the ocean side or the gulf for fishing. Its also close to sombero reef for snorkeling. They also have a boat house to rent, which has an unobstructed view of the gulf.. its really nice ! We have been visiting Blue waters for years and will continue to do so as often as we can.

Rooms are always clean, fully equipped kitchen, clean elevated pool over looking the Gulf and benches on the water to enjoy a quiet evening. In the morning have breakfast in front of your room on a shaded table.

Room Tip: Ask fro a room closest to the Gulf near the pool.

So happy to read that you enjoyed your stay! I am sorry that you did not get fresh towels. If the towels are hung up back up, we presume that our guests do not want new towels. We try to conserve on water that is very precious here in the Florida Keys.
So for guests that stay in the future:
A towel on the rack means: "i'll use it again"
A towel on the floor means: "Please exchange"

Glad that you got to enjoy Marathon on your way back to Ft. Lauderdale!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

We stayed at the Blue Waters Motel two weeks ago. I would rate the room at two stars and the service at five stars. Our room had a full kitchen which is a must when traveling with constantly hungry growing boys. The room was spotlessly clean. Mattresses, bedding and towels were in excellent condition. No mustiness whatsoever.

Overall, the room could use a light makeover. As a Florida property owner myself I know simpler is better; you don't want heavy furnishings in the Keys. However, things like new blinds and curtains could do a lot to freshen them up. Also, the WiFi signal was weak at our room location towards the far end of the courtyard.

I really enjoyed the classic motor court design. The courtyard itself is very nice with outdoor tables in the center with attractive mature landscaping. The bungalow units themselves are very nicely painted in blue and white. We didn't have a chance to use the pool (too busy snorkeling) but it looked well maintained and was being enjoyed by other families.

The level and character of service and attention was very pleasant. It's nice to pull off the road and be able to walk right into the office and check in with a personal touch as opposed to the usual "sorry our computer's really slow pulling up your confirmation." Overall the impression is of a true family run guest house.

The location is towards the Southern end of Vaca Key. It's very near to the foot of the Seven Mile bridge and hence well located for excursions to Bahia Honda and Big Pine Key.

With a little freshening up of the room decor the Blue Water Motel would qualify as a boutique accommodation. I would not hesitate to return with my family as guests of the Blue Waters family on my next trip to the Keys. As others have said, this is the real Florida Keys.

Glad to hear that our staff was able to accomidate you. We pride ourselves in being able to provide good old fashion customer service! Also we will look into your suggestion of updating curtains and blinds. We are always open to improving! Glad your overall experience was a good one!

This was a last minute trip and it happened over spring break. I would have given it an excellent except I couldn't get over the price we had to pay. $164.00 (sat.) & $180.00 (sun.) granted it was spring break and the Marathon seafood festival was happening the same weekend and prices all over the Keys were at least double those rates or they were booked solid. Next time I will plan better, so I guess that's not their fault, lol.

The motel is conveniently located in the middle of most everything. Our room was immaculate and the beds comfortable. It will sleep 6 people comfortably. Two queen beds and a futon couch that turned into a bed. There were 3 of us but we could have double-bunked on these beds. The staff were friendly and accomodating. We forgot beach towels but they had them available for our use. The best part is that it is 2 doors away from the Turtle Hospital.

Now, here is a huge tip for anyone viewing this review. DO NOT GO TO THE BANK NEXT DOOR AND GET CASH. THEY WILL GOUGE YOU FOR GETTING MONEY AND IF YOU JUST CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT TO SEE YOUR BALANCE THEY WILL CHARGE YOU $3.00 JUST TO CHECK IT. I can't remember the name of the bank, it's probably local to this area. Just go to Walgreens and get cash or use their ATM machines inside, they are CITI bank owned.

Room Tip: ask for rooms in the middle as the motel sits close to the main road. It's a drive-in type mote...

Blue Waters trys to provide pricing that is competative. As you stated most other hotels were at least double the price that we were. You are right, we are very lucky to be 2 doors down from the Turtle Hospital. It is one of the best attractions here in Marathon. No matter where you stay do not miss it !
