“Beautiful spot that could use more attention to detail....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

This was our second year in a row to Coral Lagoon for a New Year's eve party with friends. Last year we were in Unit 1; this year found us booked into Unit 4 -- both on a peaceful canal. We also rented a boat slip for friends who were meeting us there on their boat. The units are spacious and decorated with a Keys touch, although some of the furniture in the living room is getting a bit dirty and worn around the edges. Overall, for both stays, the units were well cleaned. Unit 1 is a nicer unit than 4 because it is on the end and gives you the luxury of a side window. Otherwise, they are essentially the same. We had a fabulous time enjoying the New Year slide in with our friends and sitting on the porches overlooking the canal. Both years we have been entertained by wonderful fireworks from across the way.

There were some disappointments that could be remedied easily to make this a high-class property. If you want the condo cleaned daily, there is a $75 per day cleaning fee. As we are quite capable of cleaning ourselves, we chose to forgo this fee. However, there were absolutely NO cleaning supplies and not a mop or broom in sight. So we weren't able to clean up after ourselves easily and when a glass got broken on the tile floors one evening, we had a difficult time dealing with it. Because it was after office hours, we had nowhere to get anything to sweep with. Luckily, our boat friends provided a broom so that we could clean it up. Their website advertises a well-equipped, gourmet kitchen.....It is beautfully appointed with maple cabinets and stainless steel appliances. However, if anyone wants to cook and eat there (our plan!), you could never do it on the glassware, plates, utensils, and cookware in this kitchen. Considering that this is a three bedroom condo with 6 sleeping places, it would make sense to provide 6 glasses, plates, etc... Nope! Once again, we had to borrow from our friends on the boat. One kitchen towel was expected to last for our entire stay and NO extra trash bags could be found in the unit. The smoke detector in the living room was obviously broken and needed replacing. Some lightbulbs were out. The upholstry on the couch and chairs should be shampooed or replaced.

Overall, we had an amazing time. Coral Lagoon is a well-located and has the potential of being a 5 stars getaway. More attention to the little details would go a long way to making it perfect.

Room Tip: End units have an extra window downstairs.

“great stay - didn't want to leave”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

what a beautiful place! we stayed in June for 2 nights with 3 guests. we booked a 2 bedroom but we were graciously upgraded to a 3 bedroom at no extra price and the entire unit was gorgeously decorated. the manager was very nice and helpful to us but we did arrive before 5 pm just to be sure there was no problem getting the keys and it worked out fine. having our boat so close was just amazing and convenient and the price was the lowest around especially since we weren't staying a full week (other places have a 7 night min).
it's not a traditional hotel so don't expect that type of accomodation but i thought it was much better and we would definitely recommend and return next summer.

Room Tip: All the rooms had a good location because they are built on a "U" water inlet.

“Strange set-up but beautiful property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

Booked this "room" through a regular hotel booking site and expected a room at a resort style property. What the "room" actually turned out to be was a 3-bedroomed house in a lovely waterside development. Not sure whay these properties are being rented out on a nightly basis, perhaps the development was built for sale but then things changed?

So the set-up is rather unusual, the "reception" (sales office?) is only open until 5pm after which there is noone available and there is no servicing of the properties on a daily basis unless you pay $75 extra. A crib that we requested when booking was not provided. On arrival we were presented with a rule sheet which we were asked to sign, including agreeing to pay the full retail cost of any item damaged plus a $500 service fee, the key to the pool is not made available unless you sign this.

All that said, the properties are beautifully designed and furnished and the marina setting is gorgeous. The design and setting were very Florida so this compensated for the rather bizarre set-up.

“Somewhat Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2011

I'm not sure what is going on at Coral Lagoon, but pinching pennies seems to be their game. I received a call a day prior to check in requesting full payment. At that time, I was advised there may not be anyone there (on a Saturday afternoon) to check us in. That was, in fact, the case and we were instructed by telephone how to obtain an entry key from a lockbox. There were numerous light bulbs out in our unit, as well as dead batteries in the television remote. There were four towels and two wash clothes for five people, and much to our dismay they had to be used for our entire four day stay! Fortunately there was a washer and dryer in the unit with complimentary detergent, so we were able to launder the towels, but it would have been preferable for $200+ a night to have enough towels, or at the very least someone could have told us to bring our own. After a trip to Publix for breakfast foods, a kitchen search revealed no frying pan. During our four-day stay the only time we saw an on-site employee was on Sunday, at which time we requested a frying pan and were given a six inch pan for a family of five. We had to put our trash out in front of the unit where it sat for the entire day. The bathtub had some mildew. Sorry Coral Lagoon, but I would not stay with you again nor would I recommend your resort to anyone else.

“Wow has a Gem changed!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2011

Last year we went to Coral Lagoon and it was the best trip ever! Unfortunately this year was quite a different scene. First I reserved a 3 bedroom deluxe and they told me "oh no sorry :( " Then we got into the room and they gave us FOUR towels for six people!!! They told us oh "someone should have called you letting you know you needed to bring towels." Even the cheapest hotel supplies enough towels!! THe smoke detector was ringing off the wall, "Gee it wasn't doing that when we cleaned." When we went to bed to find a queen or full size bottom sheet on a king bed. It hardly covered the mattress. Last year you could use the pool anytime and it had a childproof lock on the gate, this year it's locked and was told "Gee didn't you see the note on your table to come pay for a key rental?" Why wasn't the pool key offered or told you would need one at check in?
Coral Lagoon is a beautiful site BUT whoever came up with these new changes made some serious mistakes in decisions :(((((
