“Very Customer Oriented!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

I went out on the "Reef Hopper" out of Captain Hook's Marina and Dive Center this past Friday and Saturday afternoon. We went out about 3.5 miles (nice boat) each day, dove 2 sites each afternoon, dove at "The Doughnut" and "Coffins Patch" on Friday and "The Elbow" and "The Wrist" on Saturday. Depth was about 20-25 feet with good visibility. Dive Master's, Eric and Bonnie, were both excellent guides, making sure to point out anything that I was looking for. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Captain Hook's.

We appreciate your business and the nice review. Having a dive instructors like Eric and Bonnie showing you the reef has some advantages. They know the reef very well and see some of the friendly inhabitants often. Some are territorial so they know they will be there when we dive the area again. There are usually some surprises like sea turtles, eels, mantas, or large pelagic fish that come in over the reef while we are diving. There have been many times that dolphin, the mammals, have come in and joined our dive parties. It is still rare but it does happen. A few years back, we had a whale shark that was hanging around Captain Hook's in the cut and out front. That was exciting. Don't stay away too long and thank you for the nice review.

“Happy Repeat Customers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

We vacationed with a group of 4 couples that included 5 divers and 3 snorkelers. My hubby and I had a good experience with Captain Hook's last year, and so we didn't consider any other dive shops for this trip. The staff at Captain Hooks remembered us from last year, and it's always a good sign that the same staff members still work there! The divers enjoyed a sunset/night dive, the Thunderbolt, spearfishing, and many different reefs. The visibility for the snorkelers was not the clearest, since Hurricane Isaac had been through a few weeks before. Mother Nature owns that one, certainly not Captain Hooks! We want to give a shout out to Captain Mike, Captain Bonnie, Captain Larry, Ryan, and Dive Master Eric. Thanks guys for a great experience!

Getting a customer to come back to us is what it is all about and getting a great review from them makes it even better. Thank you so much for your business. We wish the vis could have been a little better for you but it sounds like you had a great time anyway. There is always lots to do down here so you may want to try paddleboarding and kayaking too. We have a number of trips or even rentals that you can try it out or enjoy the near shore waters. Thanks for coming back and we hope you make it a habit to come see us.

Reviews like this make owning a small business and the work that goes with it, all worthwhile. It also makes it a little easier when we can rely on our dive crew to take care of our customers and most of our customers think they're great. We appreciate that you noticed and your business as well. Come back and see us real soon.

“Saved out trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

I just got back from leading a dive trip to Marathon Key for my dive club, and we booked our dives through another operator. That shop really disapointed us, and wasn't going to let us dive the RV Thunderbolt simply because some of our divers didn't have advanced certifications. The thing to understand here though is that those divers have been diving since the 70's and each have literally thousands of dives under their belt. Well, Captain Hook's came through for us where the other shop let us down, and they really saved our trip! We got excellent service, were able to book on short notice, and they also provided a dive master (actually she was an instructor) in the water with us at no extra charge!

I really can't say strongly enough just how thrilled I was with the service we got at Captain Hook's. Awesome dives! Next time I lead a trip to Marathon I know exactly where I'll be booking the dives!

Thank you so much for the great review. We were glad we could accommodate your group. In fairness to the other dive shop, making this decision can be a very difficult thing to do. I remember when we first purchased Captain Hook's, we had a diver that had so many certifications that there was no way I thought he would be trouble. In an attempt to learn more about the dive business back then I personally with another instructor checked out his credentials directly with his cert agency. They confirmed everyone of his certifications. This was before computers became more popular...our T-Bolt dive was a strict 15 minute timed dive with a guide. On that day because we were all new to Captain Hook's, we sent out two instructors as guides for three divers. Sure enough, we sent the three divers down with the first instructor and when they reach the deck of the T-Bolt, this diver began to panic and shot to the surface. Fortunately, we were lucky because the second instructor made a delayed descent to the T-Bolt and was able to grab the divers belt and hold him long enough to slow the accent to the surface as he held onto buoy line. This and many other reasons became part of our decision to always provide a complementary divemaster on all of our dive trips. Having that instructor or divemaster in the water gives us a little more peace of mind. We are glad we were able to help. Sorry for the lengthy response. We look forward to seeing you again and thank you for the business.
