I am giving Cheeca a generous rating of 3. We just returned after spending 6 nights in one of their most expensive ocean front rooms. The room and the property may be the best in the Key's but at an average price of over $650 a night I had higher expectations. I found the staff to be mixed, some excellent and some shouldn't be working at an expensive resort. Two nights we were unable to get a reservation at any of the hotels restaurants (usually higher end hotels hold some tables for guests) and on another night the upstairs bar was hosting an event and service was terrible. On the times we did eat at the hotel the food was inconsistent on the same exact dishes. Part of the issue is that I believe Cheeca has no high end competition in the Keys. The property is well maintained and I support Cheeca's gray water conservation but the stench from the treatment plant actually made my wife sick, you can't escape the smell when you are on the back side of the resort particularly in the parking lot. I was hesitant to write this review but decided to do so only after nobody from the resort asked me how our stay was at any time during our visit.
