“Not outstanding”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We visited off season in September when the weather is less than ideal in the Keys. We got a lower than usual rate at the Cheeca, we assumed, for that reason. When we arrived, we were told the fitness center and adult pool area (half the resort, and the main reason we chose it) were closed for renovation. Therefore, the main pool was overcrowded (unusable for us) the whole time and we had no way to exercise as it is way too hot to run outside this time of year. Staff was very accommodating and we were given some resort credit to compensate. The room in the main building was great, nice tub on the patio and we had fun on the par 3 golf course but overall probably wouldn't return.

This lodge it not cheap by any means but worth every dollar. We stayed in the main hotel with a room facing the ocean. From the bathtub that is on your own private balcony, to the awesome food and very pleasent staff, this is one of the best stays I have ever had.

Room Tip: 3 or 4th floor in the main lodge facing the ocean

To finish our holiday we stayed at the Cheeca lodge and Spa for 5 days to enjoy the sun in a quiet, pleasant setting.
At our arrival , We were greeted with a glass of Champagne and were given all the details of the hotel. Unfortunately both the Spa and the adult amazing swimming pool area were closed for maintenance so we missed this.
There was however a pool by the Toki bar that was very pleasant too and fortunately there were not too many kids. Also the ones in the pool were behaving well.
The tikis bar prepared the most amazing Mojitos, and the blue berry Mojito was excellent.
We ate at the Nikai sushi bar twice. Review posted separately. It was fantastic.
We also ate at the standard restaurant, it was also very nice, beautiful fish and very tasty key lime tart.
The only minus point was that although staff was very friendly, it seemed to be a bit chaotic and the right hand did not seem to know what the left hand did.
Other than that it was wonderful.
There were a few activities like bycircle, riding, canoeing, go sailing, snorkelling close by.
The room we had was nicely appointed. Milton Brown toiletries, Starbucks coffee. Complimentary water bottles in your fridge every day and free wifi in the hotel, beach and swimming pool. It was nicely decorated too.
Some of the facilities, like showers at swimming pool would need to be repaired or updated, but overall the hotel is well maintained and comfortable.
We enjoyed our stay very much.

This resort is one of the largest, if not the largest, in the Keys. The grounds are nice and well maintained. The lobby looks rich and is beautifully decorated. Nice beach and pool area. It all looks good if you are there just to observe or stay for a day. If you visit Cheeca Lodge for few-days-vacation you most like will be disappointed. The pool is nice but too small for the resort size and the number of guests. By 10am the water in the pool gets too dirty to get into it. The beach is great for sun bathing but is not for swimming. If you dare to jump from the pier to swim in the warm and clean waters at a distance from the shore you push your luck to swim with a barracuda as people are fishing there and predators are frequent guests. The high cost is unjustified and you do not feel you get what you paid for.

Cheeca Lodge is a nice little get away, great resort feel with lots of resort amenties (but be prepared for the resort fee which we were not prepared for). It's nice to be waterfront and relax on the lounge chairs on the "beach". We got upgraded which we were glad about because we would have been far away from everything otherwise. Also, the spa was under renovation while we were there which was disappointing and we didn't receive any notice of that prior to our arrival. If we would have stayed longer than one night, it would have impacted us more. We also had mixed service, some employees were super helpful, others were terrible.

Had such a wonderful experience at Cheeca. First was disapointed that the spa was under renovation. This was one of the reasons we chose Cheeca for our anniversary. We still could get a massage though the spa facilities were closed. Manager handled situation great. Apologized and offered us dinner at the Atlantic Edge where we ended up having the best meal in the keys. Breakfast there is good but not worth the money, Everyone was friendly and helpful. Although they charge a resort fee, they provide many activites to make it worth the money. Will want to come back as soon as they finish the updating the spa.

My husband and I got married at Cheeca in late September. Alan, the wedding planner/catering manager, was beyond amazing and made sure the wedding weekend was seamless and totally stress free for us and our guests. Chris, the restaurant manager, made sure that not only our welcome dinner and wedding dinner went perfectly (with extraordinary food) but also that every meal we had at Cheeca was well attended to. In fact, the entire staff was wonderful and won our hearts and loyal business for many years to come. Cheeca is special in and of itself but the folks, expecially Alan and Chris, made us realize that the environment is only as special as the people that inhabit it. Cheeca really is one of a kind!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but you can't beat the oceanfront suties!!
