“Gorgeous hotel, fabulous service and amenities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

If you want first class service with a smile, amazing restaurants on premise and numerous activities on site head to the cheeca lodge. It was beautiful before, but with the new renovations, it is spectacular. The rooms are all gorgeous, the breakfast buffet is one of the best I've ever experienced. I had just returned from Italy and then ate at the restaurant on site Limencello. The food was as good, if not better than some of the restaurants in Italy! I can't say enough about how the staff will go above and beyond for whatever you need. The adult pool is peaceful and immaculate. You will not be dissappointed at this five star resort.

Room Tip: They are all beautiful, but try to get a lagoon view!

Cheeca was more than i expected, beautiful accomodations, wonderful food; it truly is a gem in the Keys. I'm very picky as far as hotel rooms are concerned and i was extremely happy with everything in the room from the decor to the ample space to the beautifully appointed bathrooms. The beds were incredibly comfortable. My husband and I went to Cheeca to celebrate our anniversary and it far exceeded my expectations as far as a romantic getaway. Walking around the grounds day or night was a relaxing experience. The bar was also fantastic, serving up generous and well-made drinks. The hotel store has a little bit of everything you need and the customer service representative there was incredibly nice and acoomodating. The only reason why i didn't give it the full five stars is that the morning of our check-out, the hotel maids were making so much noise chatting in the hallway and slamming nearby room doors that we could not sleep in past7am! We complained at the front desk on the way out and they apologized. The other issue would be the price-pretty high but other than that, Cheeca shouldn't be missed.

We are delighted we exceeded your expectations in every way, from the rooms to the grounds to the cuisine. Cheeca truly is a “gem” in the Florida Keys. It sounds like you had a really nice, relaxing and romantic anniversary –that’s our goal! We apologize for the noise in the hallway – we will address that with our housekeeping staff immediately.
We wish you a happy anniversary, and hope you will return for your next one. We would love to have you.

Booked two nights at Cheeca as a part of our family Floridavacation. Upgraded to a room in the main building with a nice balcony and a jacucci on the balcony. Had to pay quite a lot for the upgrade. No discount what so ever. Its a nice resort but expensive. They have a small golf course, nothing for a serious golfer. Very good service by the valet parking. Dont eat the very expensive breakfast at the checca. Take a bike (bikes avaliable at the valet parking) down to Islamorada, it takes 5 minutes, and have your breakfast there.

We appreciate your feedback. We believe Cheeca’s rates are reflective of the rates of other Florida hotels that provide our level of accommodations and service. We are happy you found our resort to be nice, and enjoyed the valet service. Our par-three executive golf course was designed by a Jack Nicklaus company and while it is not a regulation 18-hole course, it is still quite challenging and well-maintained. We agree that there are several excellent breakfast spots nearby, but we also think our breakfast menu is one of the best in the Keys. Thanks for your review, and come back again soon.

We booked at the Cheeca for a 3 day break before Christmas. The plan was to have a hotel based family break in the Keys. We chose the Cheeca because of the level of activities it offers. The web site photos gave the impression that we were booking into something special. Guess what, web site photos lie. Be careful Cheeca management. To much photo shop artwork creates sky high expectations. Lo an behold the first impressions were a disappointment and the resort failed to match the glossy image it portrays. Once we got into the flow of things and accepted that our lagoon view suite was really pretty small and looked over a glass fiber, leaf filled pond, we did start to enjoy the place.

The kids loved the fishing pier, and we caught fish, lots of them. 10$ for a bag of shrimp was a bit excessive, but rods do require maintenance, so money has to be made back somewhere. The sailboats were good fun, it is a shame they were not included in the resort fee along with the kayaks. The snorkel lagoon was not so great, very murky and not possible to see anything. The golf course is not for golfers but a more a pitch and putt for novices. We didn't try the bikes, but the tennis courts were fine, as were the pool areas. There is no real beach for swimming, which was a negative.

The staff did a good job and followed up any request we had. The hotel area is very compact and doesn't take long to get familiar with. The restaurant was pricey, but you do have a choice. There is a variety of interesting restaurants a short walking distance from the hotel gate. The "Shrimp Shack" deserves a mention as a fun eating place for families with younger kids.

The suite had all that we needed, including a kitchenette and coffee machine. There is a food store directly opposite the hotel for filling up the fridge with snacks for the kids. The bed was large and very comfortable. Cleanliness was good but on the downside the air condition units in the room and in neighboring units made a racket. Why do they all do that?

Would I go back? I am not sure. It just lacked that little WoW that hotels of that price need to ensure repeat business.

Room Tip: Avoid north facing lagoon suites. They have no view of anything except the inside of south facing l...

Fishing and families are two of our specialties, and we are so glad you and your children enjoyed your time here. It’s rewarding to hear that you liked your accommodations and that our staff did a good job accommodating all your requests. We greatly appreciate your comments and feedback.
The saltwater snorkeling lagoon is fed with continuously circulated ocean waters and stocked with a myriad of local fish. This ecosystem directly reflects the conditions of the ocean waters, which vary greatly with the wind and weather. Our groundskeeping staff works tirelessly to keep our lagoon, beaches and pool areas immaculate and leaf-free – a very demanding job.
Our golf course is a par-three executive course designed by a Jack Nicklaus company and while it is not a regulation 18-hole course, it is quite challenging and well-maintained. It sounds like you made good use of our resort fee, which includes not only fishing rods, kayaks, tennis and golf, but also bicycles, shade cabanas, fitness studio, exercise classes, movie rentals, wireless internet and more.
Cheeca’s beach is just like all beaches in the Florida Keys, which are a string of islands composed of coral rock. The only living coral reef in the continental U.S. is located just off Cheeca’s shoreline, which prevents the surf-like waves from reaching our beach (like those found at beaches at other destinations). However, the reef is surrounded by crystal clear waters and creates spectacular fishing, snorkeling and diving adventures.
With regard to your comments about the photos on our website, we feel that they portray our resort in a first-class, professional manner that reflects the nature and beauty of Cheeca Lodge. We are sorry that you thought our photos did not reflect the true Cheeca. We greatly appreciate all your comments and we will put them to work immediately. We really hope you will return for another visit. Thanks!

My husband and I are very discriminating about our travel accommodations, and our recent stay at Cheeca Lodge confirms that this is one of the best, if not THE BEST, hotel option in the Florida Keys.

Between Christmas and New Year's we visited Cheeca Lodge with our three small children (5, 3, and 1). We stayed in a "Luxury Resort 2-bedroom Suite" that included one room with King sized bed, one room with two Queen beds, a living room, full kitchen and two full baths. It also had a screened in porch with table for 4 and three plasma TV's. We were on the third floor which allowed for nice light throughout the day. The accommodations were beautiful, spacious, clean, and ideal for a family on vacation. The first day we stocked the fridge with kids snacks, milk, fruit, etc... so throughout the day we had a nice spot to retreat to with our children.

The resort has two pools. One is a quiet and lovely "adult only" spa pool which unfortunately we did not see enough of. The other is a fun "family" pool that also included a hot tub. The attendants were plentiful, circulating for drink and food orders. My children particularly liked the strawberry "smoothies" they could order throughout the day. While we visited during the busiest time of the year, we were always able to find a comfortable lounge chair.

We ate breakfast and lunch and some dinners at the restaurant at the resort. My husband and I both thought the food was excellent, with good healthful options for adults, and a nice children's menu.

There is also a beach, tons of activities, and a camp for the kids which we did not use, but looked like fun. One night the concierge found a babysitter for us - a substitute teacher in the Keys, and she was terrific. We went to a fantastic restaurant just down the street, on the beach - Morada Bay - which I would also HIGHLY recommend.

My only (small) complaint about Cheeca Lodge is that the fitness center is on the small side - with only a handful of equipment to choose from. I do enjoy the opportunity to work out on vacation, so I was disappointed one morning when all of the equipment was filled up.

But overall, I would suggest that Cheeca Lodge is the best hotel in the Florida Keys. It is classy, full of all of the attention to detail one would expect from a five-star resort, while still maintaining the "laid back" feel of the Keys. My husband and I will gladly return on our own. And we will also come back with our children. This place manages to be excellent for both types of vacations.

Room Tip: Recommend a third floor room for the "Luxury Resort" rooms.

Thank you for your wonderful review! Your praises inspire us to work harder to be the best resort in the Florida Keys. The luxury two-bedroom suites are indeed ideal for families on vacation. It’s particularly rewarding to hear that the beach and poolside staff were plentiful and accommodating, and that you found plenty of comfortable lounge chairs available during the busy holiday season.
We are delighted you enjoyed the restaurants, all the activities and the concierge staff. Fantastic! We apologize you were disappointed with the fitness center; this is an area that we have prioritized for improvement in the near future.
We are very proud that you call Cheeca Lodge the BEST resort in the Florida Keys and a great vacation spot for both couples and families alike. We look forward to your next visit, either as a couple or with your family. Again, thank you.

We stayed at the Cheeca Lodge betweenChristmas and New Years and had a blast. The lodge and rooms are well appointed with Tommy Bahama fabrics and furnishings throughout. Four of us used the spa and found it to be among the best ever had. For resort fee of $39 per room per night you get unlimited use do kayaks, cruiser bikes, par 3 golf course, DVD rentals, and tennis courts - 8 of us used most of the facilities and although the hotel was ifull we could always find a beech chair or other . Hidden gem throughout the gated facility. We paid dearly but that is true during Christmas week for most of Florida and Keys. Beach was lovely but very good for swimming due to very shallow, but pool is close by.
Clean friendly fun - and highly recommended for families of any age

I visited the Cheeca with my family over the Christmas break, and was blown away with my experience.

Everything was perfect.

It's on the pricy side, but if you wanted to be pampered with "Best in Class" food, service and atmosphere..the Cheeca is the ticket.

I can't wait to come back.
