Eclectically fantastic grounds!!!

However, room was tired and had broken door.....staff smoking and coughing outside your window at 6:30 a.m.

Owner was very cordial and her helper also, but not a place to return to

My now-husband came across this place when he was looking for a weekend getaway for our mini honeymoon. We both love giving business to locals (as opposed to big box hotel chains) and love seeing places with character- this place delivered on both! We arrived later than we said, and rather than a stuffy desk clerk, we were met by the very friendly Sarah who took time to show us around to the other rooms on the property and the piece de resistance- the Moroccan room where we were staying. The bathroom is no joke- as huge as the bedroom, with a palatial-sized hot tub. The shower is a little small but you won't even care with all the beautiful details in the rest of the room. Gorgeous four-poster king sized bed and beautiful tiled floor.
We decided to sit out and talk to Vivian and Sarah for a little while before turning in for the night- they are a trip! So funny and easy-going. Everything everyone said about being treated like family was true. They made you feel so at ease to come and go as you pleased, offered up tips for restaurants and things to do. And they even surprised us with a bottle of champagne chilling in our room! You just don't get those kinds of personal touches from the big guys.
If you are looking for a place that really feels private and intimate with incredible decor and personality, come here.

Room Tip: We loved the Moroccan room but next time I would love to try the Secret Garden room, which is even m...

I stayed at casa thorn April 12, 2014. It was absolutely beautiful. The room was gorgeous and very well maintained. Thorn was exceedingly nice, as were her employees. They gave us great suggestions on where to eat and where to hang out. Breakfast was superb, the French toast is without equal. The backyard is full of exotic treasures that evoke a sense of peace, romanticism, and privacy. It is obvious that the decor was carefully selected to make the guest feel as though they are on adventure, almost as if you are sharing a part of her life and travels. Casa thorn is a treasure and should be revered. It is full of character, history, and exotic scenery from far off places, as if great scenes from classic literature and film from a bygone era were manifested in the form of a bed and breakfast. It feels like you are having breakfast in a different place and time, all without leaving islamorada.

Found this place by chance! Truly a gem. I loved the staff and the lush gardens and the homes eclectic collection of art and decorations.. I needed a place to relax and this was it. There was a huge jacuzzi that was large enough to swim in! It was worth every penny! From the very moment I was invited in, I truly was in "paradise"! I plan to return again and again. Special thanks to all the staff for making me feel like part of their family. To Vivian, Sara, Chris and Thorn the owner thanks for the memories! It was a wonderful experience!

Room Tip: Choose the room with the huge king side bed and Jacuzzi. You will feel like Royalty!

We have stayed at over 100 B&Bs in many countries. Casa Thorn was by far the WORST that we have ever experienced. We were welcomed by a surly woman still in her housecoat at 3.pm. She was very disoriented and couldn't find our booking. The unit was "rustic" to say the least. We were given a key which was of no use as the lock didn't work. Nor did the screen door! We paid for our overpriced room and left quietly the next morning, not wanting to risk what breakfast would bring. This location does not give credit to the many honest B&B owners that we have met who give their guests a comfotable, memorable experience.

Dear George,
We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience at Casa Thorn.
We were alerted to the issues you encountered, but they seem to differ from what you listed.
To clarify, the staff you encountered was a visiting nurse, not a guest services staff member.
We are sorry for any confusion or dissatisfaction this may have caused.
We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further if you wish.
Feel free to contact us at casathorn@webtv.net.

Thank you for your time,
