First off, i want to start out by saying that i don't know what some people are expecting when they pass by the Last Chance Saloon. I live in South Florida and travel to the Keys quite often. When i pick places to stay, i am looking for somewhere that is clean, has easy boat access and a good location.
With that said, i think that La Siesta is the best. From the minute we made the left hand turn, we found a well kept facility. We had reserved a 2 bedroom townhouse that we were thrilled with. Of course the furniture was old, and the bathroom was small, but the beds were comfy and the house was clean. It had 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom upstairs, a full kitchen, living room and bathroom downstairs. There was a nice balcony overlooking the ocean and some tables and chairs out in front of the entrance. The entire house was to our liking and definitely a nice surprise for the Keys.
The boat area was spacious. We had reserved a slip which was nice to have to not worry about docking. The ramp was plenty big to put in our friends 26' foot boat and dock it. The resort is located on the Ocean side-convenient to the ever popular sand bar.
The pool was amazing. We were travelling with my 3 year old niece and the pool area was her favorite. It was huge and had a wading entrance (gradual walk-in) so she could sit on the bottom and play with her toys. The was also a pretty cool tube waterslide which was very popular. I even took more than a few spins down it--haven't done that since i was a kid. I noticed there was a man down there with his laptop so i asked if it was a hot spot and he said yes...good to know for next time. They survived complimentary breakfast in the morning in the pool area before 9 am which was a nice bonus. There is even a nice playground for the little ones up by the entrance and i believe there is a whole building that they devote to people who bring their pets. There is ample parking for your car and trailers are parked across the road at their marina.
The location was great. Only a couple miles south of the Tiki Bar for a good landmark. Conveniently located to the Trading Post for all your last minute groceries, Bentley's and Uncles for excellent dinner and about 15 minutes by boat to the sand bar.
La Siesta, in my opinion, is my favorite spot in the Islamorada area. I have stayed at a few other places, which were ok also and you can read my reviews of them too, but La Siesta wins my #1 vote. I would highly recommend it, but make sure to book early--eventhough they are a big resort.
