I planned our wedding over the internet. Our budget didn't allow us to go down to The Keys to scope out spots for our wedding. I found out about Marker 88 from a local hotel who said they really did a good job. Boy was I steered in the right direction.
We WERE looking at doing our wedding in Key West, but after I spoke with Matile Campo at Marker 88, I changed my mind. I knew from the get go that I trusted her. My intuition didn't fail me. She sent several pictures of weddings she had done at the site in the last couple of years. They looked great. It all looked great. Then we started to talk about food and I was absolutely sold. I wanted filet and lobster as one of the surf and turf choices. They not only gave our guests that choice...but 3 others (snapper lorenzo/filet, ribeye/shrimp and Key Lime Pasta).
Over the next 9 months Matilde helped me plan everything -- from the menu to the flowers and the ambiance. She helped me cut corners where I needed to to stay on budget as well (even picked up the cake from Publix for me...which was actually very good). I credit her for my sanity planning a long distance wedding.
So let me tel you about the wedding. We had 30 people--the beach front at MM88 IS a little short...so this was the perfect kind of space for us. Our guests gathered around 6 for a cocktail on the beach and we got the weddign rolling at 7. Every detail was just as I dreamed it would be...maybe even better. After the ceremony we had a sunset cocktail hour with DELICIOUS FOOD. The wait staff passed the crab roll for us and we had a station with calamari, conch fritter, Ahi tuna and a shrimp wrapped in lemmon grass noodles. You HAVE to have the tuna and shrimp. Every one of my guests (and trust me, these are well traveled people who eat quite well) love the tuna.
I will warn you that the beach where the ceremony takes place is right close to the parking lot. I was a little nervous about this when I first did the site tour. However, the night of the wedding, you couldnt' hear traffic...and quite frankly it didn't seem to matter at all.
As we walked across the outside patio to our table the patrons at the restaurant cheered for us, which I thought was really sweet. A musician was playing accostic guitar, which was really nice and we were set up away from the crowd.
I can not say enough about the food. We actually probably had too much to eat. I was also impressed with the house wine -- which changes monthly I'm told.
I can't say enough about the outdoor dining experience at MM88. I can't say enough about Matilde Campo. Our wedding was her last -- hopefully they will be able to find someone to fill her shoes.
In short, MM88 was the spot where my dream wedding came true. I have heard nothing but good things about our wedding from those who were there -- even heard from an aunt, who has been to a few destination weddings, that this was the best one she was been to.
