“Really liked the Drop Anchor”

Drop Anchor Resort

Stayed at the Drop Anchor for a last minute getaway...surprised it was so empty considering the time of year..but was glad they had a room for me! Was a little leary at first with the outside..but it is painted very cute and retro...stayed in a double oceanside room and it was very nice..very clean and decorated professionally...at first they showed me a single room in a trailer on the side and a darker single room next to it..and I almost left...but when they showed me the oceanside rooms I decided to give it a try...beautiful beach with lots of chairs, etc...
and the pool was nice also...my only complaint was my a/c was a little loud (window unit) but I didn't need it since they had a nice fan and the windows were open...

“nice place to stay”

What a nice little hotel very clean and the property is well taken care of. We did have some ants in the kitchen but its fla and ants are everywhere, its very quite at night and the view of the water is great.
you can B.B.Q outside your door and there are great places to eat around the hotel.
If you never have been to the fla Keys its not a fancy place, we have a boat and it is a nice place to stay with it, the only thing its hard to get your boat out at low tide you have to be very careful or you will run a ground.

The price is way to high for the room in season but all the hotels are over priced in the winter in fla.

we would stay there again room 5 is the best if you ask us!!

We stayed at the Drop Anchor for one night on 12/15. We were attending a birthday party and the entire resort was booked for the event. Given that it was such a festive occasion and the entire resort was at our disposal, we had a wonderful time and absolutely loved the location and our room. From what I could tell, I think we had one of the best rooms (#7) and it was huge with a view of the ocean. Our unit also had a nice kitchen and large balcony. I would say this is the perfect option for a family reunion, laid-back wedding, or other group event. The amenities include hammocks, a pool, and seaside adirondack chairs for lounging. This is by no means a luxury or "new" property, but if you are looking for a "mid-Keys" laid back experience, I highly recommend the Drop Anchor resort. We would definitely stay again and request the same room.

I am not going to be too negative about our stay at Drop Anchor because the problem was not so much their fault but ours...We had just travelled from Treasure Island(brand new condo) and then Naples (fabulous luxury hotel) and we were tired, slightly dissappointed with Key Largo and Islamorada so booked the first room we could get with a kitchen (due to dietary needs). We prefer the newer, more modern style of condo hotel with all the mod cons and we are just not suited to the old motel style. The room was bright and modern with laminate floor, white walls and big chunky furniture and was quite nice but it was some of the fixings ie bathroom, doors, windows , air con unit that really showed the age of the place. Kitchen very compact but new units and sink. Full size cooker but only 2 plug points above the cooker so when you needed to use microwave, which was on a trolley unit, you had to move it in front of the cooker to plug it in. Despite this the room was immaculately clean with complimentary good quality toiletries but you had to pay for maid service. Owner was very nice and helpful.
I cannot dispute that the outside area is beautiful but please note that there is NO beach...only man made area of sand. Nevertheless they have really made the most of their grounds with nice clean pool, hammocks, tiki huts etc. But it is the shell of the buildings, the walkways etc which all seemed a bit jaded, dusty and rundown. From the pictures, our room was not as nice as some of the others. We stayed end of Sept and place was full so must be popular. We checked out early and set off for Pompana Beach, near Fort Lauderdale and compared to the other hotels with stayed at this appeared to be expensive for what you get.

Motel style a bit old, didnt feel very clean although was ok. This was one of the most expensive places we stayed on a 3 month holiday around america and it really wasnt worth the money, nice pool though and a couple of nice hammocks right on the water, there are places for boats to moor. TV didnt work or hairdryer but management came and fixed. Nice restaurants around but need a car and they were expensive. Probably wouldn't return as a bit uninspiring
