I am not going to be too negative about our stay at Drop Anchor because the problem was not so much their fault but ours...We had just travelled from Treasure Island(brand new condo) and then Naples (fabulous luxury hotel) and we were tired, slightly dissappointed with Key Largo and Islamorada so booked the first room we could get with a kitchen (due to dietary needs). We prefer the newer, more modern style of condo hotel with all the mod cons and we are just not suited to the old motel style. The room was bright and modern with laminate floor, white walls and big chunky furniture and was quite nice but it was some of the fixings ie bathroom, doors, windows , air con unit that really showed the age of the place. Kitchen very compact but new units and sink. Full size cooker but only 2 plug points above the cooker so when you needed to use microwave, which was on a trolley unit, you had to move it in front of the cooker to plug it in. Despite this the room was immaculately clean with complimentary good quality toiletries but you had to pay for maid service. Owner was very nice and helpful.
I cannot dispute that the outside area is beautiful but please note that there is NO beach...only man made area of sand. Nevertheless they have really made the most of their grounds with nice clean pool, hammocks, tiki huts etc. But it is the shell of the buildings, the walkways etc which all seemed a bit jaded, dusty and rundown. From the pictures, our room was not as nice as some of the others. We stayed end of Sept and place was full so must be popular. We checked out early and set off for Pompana Beach, near Fort Lauderdale and compared to the other hotels with stayed at this appeared to be expensive for what you get.

Motel style a bit old, didnt feel very clean although was ok. This was one of the most expensive places we stayed on a 3 month holiday around america and it really wasnt worth the money, nice pool though and a couple of nice hammocks right on the water, there are places for boats to moor. TV didnt work or hairdryer but management came and fixed. Nice restaurants around but need a car and they were expensive. Probably wouldn't return as a bit uninspiring

First I want to say I am not one to bash a hotel- I have stayed in Islamorada for the last five years on the return trip from Key West- So I am aware that we are in the Keys and everything is very laid back (actually this is the reason we keep coming back). When I called
I asked alot of questions- I was never told that this was the start of bartenders week - upon arrival when I realized this I was assured that there were only a few staying there and that they never have problems with them. This was far from the truth- We did not get any sleep both nights- people coming back at 2 in the morning yelling and people all over the grounds drinking sleeping everywhere outside.
After leaving for the day for our boat rental we returned to the hotel- We were in the pool and my husband had to ask the guys to watch their language only to be ignored. He went to the desk and again nicely told the owners about it and they just assured us that they have never had any problems and that they are just kids. We would have left had we been able to get a reservation someplace else and we were leaving the next morning. On another subject there were mites in the bathrooms and you have to ask for towels everyday. I knew this wasn't the Ritz and we only spent $200.00 a day- but I really believe the way the we were treated as guests was horrible and I would never for back again. Do yourself a favor and stay someplace else. There are alot of other hotels in this price range which are friendlier and cleaner.

Drop Anchor is a well maintained motel and suites. The grounds are meticulously kept, the buildings have a fresh coat of paint. The Ocean side water frontage is calm with a lot of seating for relaxing and enjoyment. The pool is new. The rooms are clean, the pictures on their website are relatively accurate. The staff was friendly and helpful. The marina consists of a boat ramp, but there were several 20 ft plus boats that launched at docked there. I stayed here with a group of fishing buddies, but I would probably bring the wife back also.

“Simple Perfection”

Drop Anchor Resort

I just returned from a 3 night stay in room 12 and it was absolutely wonderful. I'd like to start off by saying that the website pictures were a 100% accurate representation of both the room and the gorgeous
grounds. The resort is older but the only parts of the room that showed the age were the bathroom and the kitchen cabinets but both were immaculately clean and functional. The bathroom just has a shower-with terriffic water pressure-no problem for us but may be an issue if you require a bathtub, perhaps if traveling with little ones. Other rooms may have them, I'm not sure. The appliances in the kitchen except for the stove seemed brand new and included a full size fridge, microwave, coffee maker and blender. The stove was a small one but worked fine. Kitchen was supplied with utensils, plates, everything you'd need to make a simple meal and even wine glasses.

The beds were extremely comfortable. The master bedroom had a large dresser and closet, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Our 2nd bedroom had 2 twin beds and a 3 drawer dresser. Each bedroom had a ceiling fan and an AC unit and there was another fan and AC in the main living area. Our unit was closest to the road but traffic noise was never an issue nor was privacy. We had a picnic table as well as a patio with 4 chairs and a charcoal grill.

TV with plentiful channels (that we barely used), comfortable sofa and 2 chairs and a kitchen table with 4 chairs in the main living area.

The grounds are beautiful. Lots of adirondack chairs, thatched huts, chaise lounges and hammocks. The pool was pristine.

The thing that struck me the most was how quiet it was. The resort had no vacancy while we were there but it seemed like we were the only ones there. Never more than 2 or 3 other people at the pool or on the beach. I went out every night after sunset and was always the only one out there. The last night we were there somebody was shooting fireworks from a boat just down the shore and the beach was full. As soon as it was over, everyone disappeared! If you are looking for quiet this is THE place.

Just to clarify, when I say bech I mean sand-it's not direct ocean access but a sandy area and then a concrete dock with boat tie-ups. I sat there one day and watched crabs, fish and even saw a sting ray swim by-awesome. Lots of birds-fun to watch.

Maid service is every 3rd day which I prefer in a place like this. Just be sure you have what you need after they leave. We always had plenty of towels but they forgot to replenish our toilet paper which I discovered at 8 a.m. the next morning and the office didn't open until 9:00. Again, no big deal.

The owners were awesome and a huge help with restaurant recommendations.

So, sorry for the novel but I just can't say enough about this little
slice of heaven on earth. Perhaps it's not for you if you are into fancy but if you are looking for a spacious, comfortable room in a beautiful and quiet location then don't look any farther than the Drop Anchor.
