“Beachside bliss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Stayed here as part of a honeymoon trip to Miami and the Keys and it was easily the highlight of an excellent trip. This place is an oasis of calm and as others have pointed out a little slice of paradise. The pictures on the website and on TA do not do this stunning little place justice. It is stylishly landscaped and the island is the perfect place to while away a day's reading, sunbathing and relaxing. When you tire of this (if you tire of this), there are bikes and kayaks available to explore the local area by water of by road.

There is a small locals bar (Lor-ei-lei) about 100m up the road which has live music and a happy hour every evening and offers a good spot to watch the sun go down. For something more upscale, the Morada Bay beach cafe and Pierre's a further up the road and offer a beautiful setting on the beach and a distinctly Caribbean vibe.

Despite the obvious attractions of the setting and the fact that we loved it, Casa Morada does come with some caveats and it is not for everyone. Essentially, this is a run-down motel that has been stylishly re-modelled as a boutique hotel. In that respect, it is an unqualified success, but this is no luxury resort. For those seeking/used to five star resorts with the services and amenities that come with that, this may not be the place for you. The rooms, for one, are very basic (without a basic price tag) and the bathrooms in particular show their age/heritage. Also, the pool area and bar are served by one staff member and service at lunchtime can be slow as they make each individual meal to order. These issues fade into insignificance in the overall context of Casa Morada but nonetheless need pointing out. Despite this, I would rank this as one of the best places I have ever stayed and very much hope to return one day.

Room Tip: If budget allows, it would be worth investing in one of the upper floor suites.

everything about their place is relaxing...sit back and let all of your big city worries wash away...a cocktail on the dock and a good book. there is also a little sailboat they take out for sunset cruises

Room Tip: get a room facing west with an outdoor shower

Difficult to add to what others have already written.
I would just point out that this a great little hotel which will not be for everybody...it's not luxury in terms of amenities but it is luxury in terms of views, peace and quiet and the overall 'getaway' experience.
We had an oceanfront room but could not do much with the private verandah due to the winds post-Sandy (amazing difference when the winds did disappear on our last day)...great bed and spacious room with a nice bathroom (the famous tub with a handheld shower) which we enjoyed.
The island is just great with a nice little bar, superfriendly staff and these really relaxing views where you think you are in the Caribbean somewhere. Grounds were pretty but the island does it. Sadly could not use the boat due to choppy seas so will have to come back for that.
Dislikes?
Not much...the breakfast was not much more than 3* (whereas salad offered at lunch was very nice) and was expensive (but we realised this is just The Keys). You have to ask for more toiletries which was odd.
...but for a 3-4 day stay this is close to bliss.
Would gladly return.

We loved this hotel,it somehow manages to be different to other hotels in a great way.
It is so beautiful and peaceful with amazing staff who do anything to help.It is right on the water
with great views.
My only criticism is the bathroom in one of the less expensive rooms is at the most 2 star.

I hesitate to write this review, as I want to keep this marvelous place to ourselves! This is our new, favorite extended weekend getaway. Casa Morada is luxurious for what it is NOT, as its simplicity might not appeal to everyone. It is serene, secluded, quiet (no small children allowed). The pool area is wonderful w/ comfortable seating & lounging areas. The small size of the hotel makes it very personal; the staff is friendly and very helpful. Great to have kayaks & bicycles @ our disposal too; we biked several times to the end of the street to Lor-e-lei's for a beer & a sandwich (great casual spot, BTW), as well as a bike ride across the way on the Old Highway. There are several interesting kayak destinations close by, as well as snorkeling; unfortunately, while we were there, Hurricane Sandy was just getting underway & it was too windy for either. The rooms are airy, minimal, simply decorated in a way that is sophisticated. Live orchids in each room is a really nice touch. Every room contains an assortment of books to read if you forgot yours at home. Everywhere you will find little touches like these, which indicate the level of care taken to make your stay enjoyable. We will be back often, I hope!

Room Tip: there are several; while staying, walk around the property & pick your favorite for next time!

Casual, relaxing, sophisticated. This is a quiet, romantic resort with lush landscaped grounds on the bayside of Islamorada. It's walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops. Free kayaks, paddleboard, bikes. Great pool. And the bar is perfect for sunset! Service is outstanding as well.

Room Tip: We had one of the hot tub suites - and it was awesome!

Another blissful stay at Casa Morada. This place is truly fantastic. Tucked away, quite and peaceful on the Gulf. It is a great place to get away and totally relax. Totally low key and chill this is not a loud party place. The resort is right on the Gulf allowing for spectacular sunsets from the island and some rooms. The grounds and landscaping are absolutely beautiful and the design contributes to the very private feel each room gets. We have stayed in four different rooms at Casa Morada now and loved them all. Each is a little different, deep soak Jacuzzi tubs, outdoor shower, large outdoor deck etc. The free breakfast is great in the morning and the lunch options at the restaurant are all good. They even have a sailboat for sunset cruises. The staff is fantastic, all very pleasant, super accommodating and very professional. This is what hospitality is all about!
