“Keys note”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

Just back from the Chesapeake Beach Resort where we had a wonderful time. This is the perfect place to relax and take in the sun. We stayed in one of the villas and it was all that we needed -two double beds, a sitting area, small kitchen and screened porch. The kitchen has a full sized refrigerator and stove, microwave, coffee maker with coffee supplied, dishes and silverware. Bottled water and a newspaper are delivered daily. The free breakfast is fine. There are many areas to enjoy the sun and there were always enough lounge chairs for all the guests. There is a charter fishing boat docked there if you are interested in hiring it to fish. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. If you want to experience the Keys, and a quiet, laid back vacation, this is the place to go. Love it and can't wait to go back!

Our family is just back from 3 days pre cruise and 3 days post cruise stay at Chesapeake. Overall great place to stay with beautiful grounds, great pool, friendly staff and excellent wifi coverage. Great next door restaurant called Wahoos bar & grill. The only negative I can say is the breakfast was just ok other than that I would defintely recommend this place to stay with kids or without.

Room Tip: We stayed in Rm.306 which is a Villa. Good size room for the 4 of us but the one complaint I would...

Disappointing first impressions, not at all what the website gives you to believe. We were assured at check-in that the Garden View rooms would not be noisy - not so, right next to the main highway. These rooms are shabby and tired with no elevator as built in 1950s we were told by staff. Managed an upgrade to the Ocean View rooms which are a lot better and front the beach. There is a free breakfast, plentiful but basic, but otherwise there is no restaurant and no bar on site at all. You can walk 2 minutes to Wahoos, a good fish restaurant and bar at the next door marina. Otherwise it's a drive.

Room Tip: Make sure you get an Ocean room on the beach otherwise the noise from Highway 1 is overpowering.

The location is good, and is a central base for exploring the keys. The grounds are quite small but well cared for and are a very pleasant spot to stop and relax on the sun bed or take one of their small plastics kayaks onto the water (although the guy who runs the kayaks and bikes was quite patronising, he is easy to ignore - just sign the waiver and off you go).
Other reviews have remarked on the fact that the place and some of the furniture is old. That's true, but it did not detract from the place for us. The only exception was the mattress, which was old, and uncomfortable. We would go back.
Be aware that there is a $18/nigh "resort fee" on top of the posted room rate!

If you are looking for a place that is tranquil, quiet, restful, and beautiful, then come here! The rooms are fine, not 5 star by any means, but the property makes you feel like you are on a desert island. The view is spectacular and the beaches are to die for. It feels like no one is here even if it's full. There is no bar or restaurant on site, which makes it very tranquil. As parents of two, we were looking for quiet and tranquil. I have spent the entire trip laying by the ocean and relaxing. It is out of a movie! I prefer no bar, so I can make my own drinks which are half the price!

Rooms are totally fine and clean and. Their villas are adorable! If you want to getaway and relax by the ocean, come here!

2 pools and a jacuzzi!

We stayed for 7 nights at the Chesapeake by lucky chance as we had booked another hotel, which turned out to be so dreadful that we checked out after one night with nowhere to go. We stopped at Chesapeake to ask directions to the Visitor Centre to find another hotel and they had a free room - which turned out to be an ocean facing suite! The room was glorious - large, cool, quiet, comfortable, spotlessly clean, king size bed, well appointed bathroom and balcony overlooking the cove and the marina. Sitting on our balcony watching the amazing colours of the sunset every evening was truly wonderful. The pools and beach and marina were all kept clean and tidy and we watched as the beach was swept each morning and the fish preparation area on the marina was hosed down each evening Without exception every member of staff we encountered during our 7-day stay was courteous, cheerful, smiling and friendly and they always greeted us. I would particularly like to mention Will, Tony and Caesar in Reception for their assistance in sorting out accommodation for us, and the lady in the breakfast room and all the housekeeping staff for their excellent service. This has been on of the happiest and most relaxing week we have had for years - and we will be back next year.

Stayed two nights mid week. Nicely landscaped. Check in was good and staff friendly but no offer of or assistance with getting bags to room. Were on second floor and no elevator so wife had to drag all bags up the stairs. Just kidding, I helped. Room was nice and average size. Two full size beds. Comfortable and a good nights sleep. Two of the lamps in the room not plugged in because of lack of electrical outlets. The patio/balcony was screened but had a few small tears in the screen, However, we had no problem with bugs. The noise on the balcony from the highway was awful and made setting there not enjoyable at all. I would suggest a room farther back from the highway next time or even spring for a beachfront. At night with the doors closed the noise was not so bad but was still there.
The room was nice and clean and comfortable with a safe, small fridge and coffee maker. The air unit was located above the front door. There was not a separate thermostat so you needed to be either really tall or have long arms to make adjustments to the temperature.
Nice beach ocean area and pools. Nice relaxing places to just set and chill. There is no bar on site so bring own booze.
Continental breakfast was pretty good but may have to wait just a few if they need to replenish items. Over all a good stay. I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Get room back away from the highway
