We've been trying to make it to the Keys for years and we weren't disappointed. In my research I discounted lodging that emphasized pictures of the rooms or the pool; I picked Ragged Edge for the pictures of the fish! The accommodations are incredibly clean and the air conditioning works like a charm. Bedding options are limited, but we were up every morning at 6 to fish and that was the point. The boat slips are sheltered and security cameras everywhere give you good peace of mind. The best part... the people! They couldn't have done more to point us in the right direction for great fishing. Do stop at the grocery store (Publix I think) in Tavernier. Have lunch 1 afternoon at "Ma's Fish Camp" south toward Marathon. Don't miss the Conch Fritters! Watch out for the weather, it can get serious very quickly. Oh and Ragged Edge has a great pool even if they don't feel like they have to take pictures of it.

We came over from England arrived at Miami hired a car and our intent was to head down to the Keys for my husband to do some fishing. We booked in for 4 nights after reading all the reviews which I think on the whole were very impressive. We had intended to move on to another spot after this but absolutely fell in love with the place and stayed for 7.
It is the ideal retreat for people with stressful lives as all you can do is chill and soak up the laid back atmosphere.
I would echo what many people before me have said it is just ideal. My husband was even able to leave his fishing gear on the quay overnight with the knowledge that it would be there in the morning. Mike and Jose may seem and are very laid back but do keep a watchful eye out.
I would recommend the screened room set up as for me there was nothing nicer than to sit out in the sun on the sunbeds provided outside your room and then pop inside for a cool down. I found this much more preferable to the heated pool which is lovely and has an enclosed deck for shade as well as sunbeds by the pool but my option was so private and this is respected at all times.
If you are looking for all the facilities a five star hotel may bring this is not the place for you but then you shouldn't be coming to the Keys in the first place . It doesn't have room service, an international call facility or internet facilities although the guys were kind enough to bring in their lap top to e.mail a message home. If you are coming from England or the such like we couldn't get a signal on our mobile phone. I will warn you public telephones are very few and far between we found one in the Winn Dixie supermarket this is situated 5 miles up the road by taking a right turn but it wasn't working. However we purchased a five dollar international phone card from there found a petrol station had a phone and were on the phone for at least ten minutes and it still hadn't run out.
Not a gripe but make sure you either take a kettle or travel kettle should you want anything to drink other than coffee as there is only a coffee machine provided.
If you turn left at the end of the road a little way down is a bakery and diner. Reasonably good breakfast but the bakery is to die for. I would recommend the key lime and white chocolate cookies.
All in all a fabulous place.

I stayed here on my way to Key West. I was in Key Largo and went to Islamorada to find the best deal (since I had decided to stay here for a couple of days on the way to Key West). I personally visted 10 differewnt places in Islamorada since they were all within a couple of mile of each other. I stopped at the Ragged Edge first. The manager of the Ragged Edge, Jose', said I would be back once I had a chance to see all the other places. He was right. We had a great room with a view, had the opportunity to fish from the docks and had an incredible time. What a deal. If I need to stay in Islamorada, I am staying at the Ragged Edge. For what it is worth, this is not some pricey resort where everyone waits on you hand and foot but is a great deal with great folks.

on the keys for afew days, picked the ragged from reviews. shame about the standard of room. Over the top of reception, like other guests found the rooms clean and tidy but cig burns in 1980s cover and walls like paper. put this aside if you can and its a great spot
