“Private Beachfront Cottages Gorgeous Easy Going”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

We stayed at the North Cottage for a Sunday and Monday night in December. Everything about the check in process was really lovely and easy. I did very little research for the trip- but liked the very hands-off process of getting us into our cottage where we could set up and throw on bathing suits and check out the beach. Which was absolutely gorgeous! Plenty of kayaks, paddleboards and chairs that are just there for the taking ("Just grab one and put it back on the beach afterwards"). Really ideal peaceful setting, which is why there was a professional photo shoot there. According to the hotel literature this happens often- in order to keep costs for the cottages lower. There was a pretty decent sized professional children's wear shoot (equipment, people) happening but the people were very sweet & respectful and their equipment didn't ruin our time- it's a pretty decent sized private beach. We just sat pretty far from them when we were vegging out and were more than fine. Our cottage was very nice with a decent kitchen and living room and tiny bathroom- chill and clean lodging with a nice balcony. We also made it to the VERY quiet pool and tennis court which was in very nice shape (they gave us balls and racquets). Stay here. Wish we could have been there longer. Will definitely be back.

Tips: Housekeeping is not automatic- do request it each day as needed. Stock your fridge with lots of fruits and drinks. Go out on the dock to the hammock at night and sway under the stars.

My husband and I stayed here while driving down to Key West and actually came for the Full Moon Party. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. The property is very well maintained. My only complaint was that when we arrived the woman at the front desk was very unwelcoming. We were actually very taken aback by how short she was with us. That aside, we stayed in the Honeymoon Cottage and it was very nice. Open and clean and simple. The porch that overlooks the beach was perfect for early morning breakfasts and late night lounging. We loved how private it was. The beach is beautiful. We would definitely visit again.

Spent the first week in December in the Maroni house - absolutely perfect. Four sets of double doors, one in bedroom which looked out on the beach. Well furnished house, kayaks, SUPs, small sailboat all available anytime for guests to use. Service was outstanding - they didn't even want us to carry a small box of laundry detergent from office to our house! All the grounds were immaculate and pool available in case you didn't want to swim in ocean. I would go back tomorrow.

Room Tip: Many different size houses, select one that best fits your group. Maroni House faced the ocean.

Banyans and Gumbo Limbo trees tower and shade the street as you drive into this beautiful resort. One could not imagine a more stunning surrounding landscape. A jewel toned pool lined with massive palms, and a beautiful, peaceful beach strung with hammocks under 50 foot coconut trees. The bluest water. The attentive kindness of the staff is wonderful. Without being intrusive, they ensure your stay there is as comfortable as you need. We were quickly helped on more than one occasion. The complimentary bikes are a lot of fun; we enjoyed using them to explore the interesting area, including a kayak shop 4 miles away. When stranded there in severe rain, the moorings sent a car to come retrieve us. Beautiful accommodations (we stayed in Russell House), very well stocked kitchen, excellently maintained. All in all, one of the best vacation experiences we've had. Really looking forward to staying there again for Valentines day.

Room Tip: Book as early as possible

We absolutely love The Moorings Village and Spa. The cottages are adorable, private and beautifully furnished. We've stayed in 3 different ones so far and love them all. The grounds are impeccable, the beach picturesque. Love the kayaks and SUP boards that are always available. The staff is super friendly and helpful. This is a top notch place. It is walking distance to some favorite restaurants: Chef Michael's, Kaiyo, Morada Bay Cafe, Midway Cafe for breakfast. Check out Peace of Tibet for beautiful, unique, handmade jewelry with an ethnic flair. Perfect little grocery store practically across the street. A handful of lovely clothing boutiques also in walking distance. Love!

Room Tip: I love Sifca and Orchid cottages when it's just the two of us. For the family, the two story co...

We have been staying at The Moorings for ten years, and absolutely love it. We stay in Lodge South and enjoy sitting on the porch with the sea in view through the palm trees, reading the morning paper. The staff is, without exception, extremely friendly and obliging, and an enormous amount of work goes into maintaining a faultless and beautiful tropical environment, with 21st Century modernity within walking distance. If you want quietness and peace this is the place to come. My wife and I are always involved in one creative project or other, and it is at The Moorings that we feel we are inspired to do our best work. It doesn't feel like work at all!

I've waited awhile to write this review. We ended up really loving the Moorings, but initially we had to adjust to how quiet it was...so this review is about knowing what you are getting. This is a serene resort made up of various cottages with a private beach and dock. It's a wonderful place to relax and recharge.

The staff is professional and made us feel totally at home. I absolutely loved the decor of the South Lodge and the peaceful porch under the gorgeous trees. The staff stocked our frig with requested items and delivered two bikes to the lodge before our arrival. Biking around the gorgeous property was a highlight.

Pro/Con - depending on your needs. This is a quiet resort. For example, there is no bar or restaurant on the premises. During the day, there is no music on the beach. But you can go to Pierre's and the Beach Cafe (located on the other side of Highway 1) for a restaurant, bar and music. And if you're staying at the resort, you will be given preferential reservations and most likely a front row table on the sand for a sunset.

Pros: The beach and palm trees are gorgeous. Over the holidays they decorate one leaning palm with lights and it cast a beautiful glow in the evening - great for a safe, romantic stroll on the beach. The hammock at the end of the pier is unique and wonderfully relaxing.

Cons: The water isn't clear - lots of seaweed and rocks, so we never got in the water. We did use the kayaks though, but again, the water isn't the draw here. Much prettier just hanging out on the beach under the palm trees.

Highlights of our stay were the friendly staff, biking around, hanging out on the porch, taking photos of the property, and dinner at The Beach Cafe on the sand. I'd recommend Moorings Village if you're looking for a serene retreat.

Thanks so much for a memorable stay!

Room Tip: We were concerned that the South Lodge being connected to the North Lodge would compromise our priva...
