“Lovely Atmosphere, Attentive Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

When we initially started planning our trip we were looking at resorts and chain hotels. We somehow stumbled upon Ocean House and I'm so glad we did. We chose Ocean House because the ratings and comments were so high and the pictures were beautiful. Almost too good to be true but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to see the pictures were identical to what we saw in person. Every room has a nice view and easy access to both the front and back of the property. I loved that there were 3 cats on the property. It made it feel more like a home and less like a hotel.

The staff was great and helped make our stay that much more enjoyable. All were very pleasant to talk to and they never made you feel as if you were bothering them. We wanted to take a sunset cruise and they called around and gave us our options and even it booked it for us. We didn't have to do anything except show up.

The gardner, Lorelei, does an amazing job with the property. There's no doubt she works hard to make Ocean House a tropical getaway for all the guests. Our stay was at the end of July so we spent most of our time in the pool area. The pool was inviting and the water very refreshing.

Ocean House is in a great location. It's near a drug store in case you forget anything and there's lots of dining options (my favorite was Island Grill). You're also not too far from Key West or the Everglades if you want to take a day trip.

I would recommend Ocean House to anyone who's looking for a little peace and quiet, cleaniless, beautiful grounds and an attentive, caring staff. We will definitely come back.

Thank you very much for your comments. As a small independent boutique resort, we are free to customize our atmosphere and amenities to match what we think our great customers want.

I agree that Lorelei takes great care of our tropical landscape. Even though recently planted, it is amazing how well it has filled in and looks great.

We hope that you will stay with us on your next trip to the Florida Keys!

I started planning our trip to Ocean House in May. All the great reviews here as well as the Ocean House website convinced me that Ocean House was the ideal place for us to stay. When I first heard about Tropical Storm Isaac last week I was just a little concerned but figured we would just deal with a few days of rain and then everything would be beautiful.
Unfortunately Ed had to call me Saturday morning with the news taht authorities requested that tourists not come to Islamorada either Sunday or Monday due to the impending weather threat. Trying to change our plan reservations was difficult and would have resulted in paying twice the fair. Sadly I called Ed back and told him we would not be coming.

So we are missing out on Ocean House this year because of Tropical Storm Isaac. But I wanted to write how kind and wonderful to work with Ed was at a time when he had serious concerns about preparing Ocean House to ride out the storm. I hope everyone and everything at Ocean House is safe and sound today....wish we were there.

Thank you for your kind words. It was the right call not to come. In preparation for a possible stronger storm, we had to shutter the buildings and put all beach and pool furniture in safe storage.
Fortunately, we suffered virtually no damage and have done the post storm cleaning.

We're open now and will have guests tonight!

I hope that you will be able to reschedule your trip to the Keys soon!

We wanted a small & intimate inn for a few nights in the keys & this was perfect. Have to agree with all the other reviews...beautiful interiors, nice pool & cabanas (with fans) right on the ocean, & very nice service all the way around. We were going fishing early one morning & so without us even asking, they put our breakfast in the fridge the night before.
Only reason for not being an "excellent" is that it was fairly pricey since there is not a restaurant or a spa, but I did not see anywhere else in Islamorada that I would want to stay. If you can afford this, it's wonderful.

Room Tip: Only room available had two separate sleeping areas with king beds, so we had a huge room. Probably...

Thank you for your comments. We are very close (less than 1 mile) from several very fine dining restaurants and multiple spas. So our guests have easy access to a variety of restaurants during their stay and then return to a very quiet, intimate resort setting without the traffic that a onsite restaurant would generate. Thank you very much for staying with us and I hope that you will return on your next trip to the Keys.

This is just the sort of place that one hopes to find off a diminutive side street, but rarely ever does. It is the type of place that is defined by what it is not: loud. Nothing is loud, nothing jars the senses, nothing tugs insistently for you to look at it or consider it. The slightest burbling from the grotto, the soft sounds of the beach going on about its business, the ocean breeze doing as it does and that's about all.

Don't come for the snorkeling; it isn't all that great. Don't come for some misguided perception of the beach; it isn't what you think. Come because you want to be lazy. In style. Surrounded by peace. Embraced by calm. Enveloped by tranquility. Come because you want to exhale the life you've been living and inhale the soothing surroundings that Ed has envisioned.

Room Tip: I can't imagine that there is a bad room, but the view from the 2nd floor was nice. If you have...

Thank you very much for your kind comments. You perfectly described our exact goal for the Ocean House guest experience - a quiet tranquil setting for a romantic getaway. Our guests have a choice of activities within close proximity of the resort and then return to the tranquillity of the resort. Good snorkeling from the beach is non-existant but our reef system provides world class snorkeling via local dive/snorkel boats. The Keys are not known for great beaches, but we provide a nice small soft sand beach to lay on a lounge or hammock at the ocean's edge.

I hope to see you again on a return visit to the Keys!

I wish he had stayed for more of our vacation here - it was very clean, beautifully decorated, ideally located next to water with pool, cabanas (with fans!), and white beach. Our room was second floor will full view of water. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, quiet, and secluded. LOVED IT!!! While there is no restaurant on site, the location is very convenient to nearby restaurants in Islamorada. We sat on beach chairs at night, feeling peaceful and safe, enjoying the wonderful breeze through the palm trees. Fell asleep in a hammock! Ed, the resort manager, was a very gracious host. He set up an hour massage for me with a local masseuse, which was wonderful. I wish vacations were always this way...They have an age limit for guests which made our stay even more peaceful, but if you want to come and bring family, it is my understanding that there are several very nice rentals close by. We met another very friendly group who had vacationed at the hotel 3 times and their kids and grandkids stayed at another location several doors down. You can't ask for better than that!!!

Room Tip: I recommend 2nd floor. We had an early flight out upon our departure, and I think we woke up the pe...

Thank you for your comments. I'm happy to hear that we were able to provide a relaxing stay for you. Getting that massage sure helps set you up for a nice nap in the beachside cabana! We hope to see you on a return trip to Islamorada - as we call it "Paradise".

We had a great romantic weekend getaway. Quiet beach with a great breeze off the Atlantic Ocean. Lush tropical landscaping, pool, jacuzzi and awesome cabanas. We were greeted with wine and served free breakfast every morning in the room or by the pool. Our every whim was answered by the attentive staff.

Room Tip: Great views on the second floor walkups.
