“Simple Luxury in Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

This was the perfect place for a honeymoon in Key West!
Suite 4 was beautiful. The decor had the sleek feel of Miami Beach and the place is so clean you could eat off of the floor.

The perks were limitless. Skip to the next paragraph if you'd rather be surprised! Complimentary smoothies and happy hour by the pool poured by Derek (if your lucky), the most fabulous concierge I've ever encountered. Ice cream bars magically apprear in the freezer and turn down service leaves not only chocolates but muffins for your breakfast the next morning.

The entire staff goes out of their way to make sure that your stay is the best it can be and the place is gorgeous.

I recommend taking a day to hang by the pool to enjoy sushi from Ambrosia, the on-site sushi restaurant and let Derek pamper you! :)

I wish all hotels were like this one.

We researched places to stay via trip advisor, very helpful. We chose Santa Maria based on reviews, location and our overall requirements. This place was wonderful, the staff was very helpful with booking daily excursions, suggestions for nice dinners, and just making sure we experienced Key West. It's only 100 yards to the beach, 25 minute walk to Mallory Square via Duval, and walking distance to everything. If you're looking for a quiet, nice, clean, cozy place close enough to everything you've found it.

We booked a one bedroom suite for a long weekend. It was a 2 level suite with a pool view. The kitchen was well equipped (although we didn't use it) and there was a living room on the first floor. The second floor had a bedroom and a nicely decorated bath. The bedroom was a little tight, but there was a large closet and the bed was very comfortable. The best part of the stay was the pool. It was very relaxing, there was always plenty of seating and clean towels, and the bar was convenient and less expensive than we expected. We also had great service. We had a bike accident that resulted in stitches at 2:00 am and Wolfgang helped me find a 24 hour drug store, a walk in clinic, and even dug out a first aid kit to help us with bandages until I could get to the drug store. I would definitely stay again.

We stayed for two nights on Superbowl weekend (Friday and Saturday).
Here's why I would highly recommend this place in a nutshell:
*Good location for walking everywhere
*Great proximity to a trolley stop
*Beautiful suites with two bedrooms, two bathrooms
*Free ice cream bars each afternoon (left in your freezer)
*Free bottled water all day from the pool area
*Free smoothies from the pool area
*Access to the nearby beach complimentary
*Your choice of sunscreens/suntan lotion to use during your stay

Now for the recap! We (my husband and I) were traveling with my inlaws. This was the perfect place for us because we each had our own space with private baths and bedrooms, and yet we shared a living area, a large kitchen with all the amenities you could possibly imagine plus kitchenware if you wanted to cook your own meal, and a couple balconies. I should also add that the bathrooms were great with very modern (the whole place is pretty modern really) fixtures and tiled showers with multiple shower heads. Fun! The only downside was we were on the second floor and it was a LOT of stairs up to our room. My MIL had a hard time with the steps--we should have asked for a ground level room. Our fault.

The pool area was very secluded feeling from the rest of KW and the added bonus of free bottled water and smoothies was perfect for us and saved us having to buy it elsewhere. It was great to grab a bottle on our way out to walk Duval Street or head to the beach!

The beach is nearby and you can use it for free as part of your room amenities. Otherwise it sounded like the kid was charging people $5 to set up their plastic lawn chairs. The beach was just ok, and the water really yucky looking, but we really didn't go to KW to hang at the beach all day. They also offered us our choice from a large basket of various bottles of suntan/block items. They were all opened and had been used, so I could just pick one and bring it back when we were done. I have never seen this at a hotel before and I thought it was cool. Since we had carry-ons only for the flight, we couldn't bring our big bottles from home...

The staff at the hotel was international but understanding them wasn't a problem. We probably asked for three different recommendations from them and they were always very willing to help. All of the recommendations but one were spot on. This hotel is located a block over from the very southern end of Duval Street. We walked everywhere without a problem and loved that it seemed 'quieter' on our end of the island. There was also a trolley stop just across the street which was really convenient for my MIL. The Southernmost Beach Cafe was half a block away so we ate there twice (see my review) and loved that too.

Overall I would highly recommend this place. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because I thought it was a little pricey for early February but that's Key West I suppose. I was glad we were able to split the cost with the inlaws!

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room.

Checking in was a breeze. We stayed in a two bedroom, two bath suite and it was spotlessly clean. The pool area was open and spacious with a large free-form pool. The location near Duval Street was fantastic. In the past, we have stayed at other accommodations in Key West, but the Santa Maria blows them away. I highly recommend the Santa Maria suites!

When we checked in there was no one to help with the bags, so my lazy self had to bring in the luggage. There was a smell maybe bug spray???(suite 20) that persisted throughout our stay. Room was great. Dove chocholate & ice cream, water, muffins in the room. Pool side smoothies were great. Wine was ok. Queen beds were great.

They should give you the internet pass code at checkin as I had to go done to the lobby because no one answered when i called down.

Overall a nice stay.
