“Easy to miss, but glad we didn't”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

This little museum, essentially two small rooms tucked away behind the Conch Train Station and a gift shop, could easily be skipped over. But if you have any interest in trains, Florida history, or the grandiose wishes of an eccentric millionaire, this is a short but worthwhile stop in Key West.

The museum includes videos, historic photos, interesting artifacts like conductors' uniforms and the china and silverware passengers were served meals on. It also tells the story of the many lives lost in completing Flagler's (sort of) successful vision to connect Key West with the mainland by train, spanning hundreds of miles of ocean and the keys - a structure that the Overseas Highway now literally runs over.

“Great for railfans and history buffs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

The museum is mostly housed in a boxcar. It is packed full of interesting artifacts and historical displays of the construction and operation of the railway. Railfans and history buffs will really appreciate the time and effort taken to offer these displays to the public. We spent about 35 minutes here. It is definitely not a tourist trap, but rather an interesting display of historical facts geared for people interested in U.S. and railroad history. We learned a lot about Mr. Flager, his family and the railroad he built.

“A lot of information in a small building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012

For being such a significant element in the development of the Keys, we had thought there would be a larger building and display - but the information they have packed into this railroad car is very interesting and informative. Well worth your time to read, learn and appreciate the effort taken to build the railroad and the impacts it has had. We noted some of the displays needed some upkeep - It would be worth the county/state to expand on this important part of the state's history.

“Nothing to see”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2012

Actually, I think this is not closed. They build this in a not original location with a not original building just as a tourist trap. Forget it. Nothing realy about it

“Gotta see this if you looked at any other of the former railroad bridges in the Keys”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

Nice little museum, with a scaled-down replica of how the workers built the former Overseas Railroad from the mainland down to the Keys!
