This is the best place in all of Key West. The garden clubs take care of it and clearly it is loved. You may make a donation as you arrive or leave but there is no fee. So very beautiful !
Watched the boat races from the top, also got some reat pictures. Just knowing I was standing were so much history was, gave me a sense of pride.
My husband and I took the time to enjoy this lush tropical garden while looking for something low key to do for the day. We took the citiview trolley around the island looking for less obvious attractions. One of the stops was west Martello tower. It is the location for the key west garden club. Lots of pride and dedication is put into the grounds. It is covered with many different plants and trees. It is lush and shaded so it would be perfect to escape the hot sun. It is run on donations only so there is not a set fee to get in. At the main desk there was a volunteer that explained the history of the tower and the significance of the garden club. He was very passionate when walking about the garden club and the history of the fort. This is certainly a must see when touring key west.
The gardens are secluded and free to visit. Gardening enthusiast will enjoy the detailed information provided by the volunteers. Situated near the Aids Memorial and Higgs Beach, the tower and gardens make a nice respite from the crowds.
The Key West Garden Club has done a wonderful job making this a lovely and peaceful sanctuary! Pleasant paths, benches to sit and ponder the beauty, and fantastic, rare native and exotic trees and plants. Enjoyed this place very much and highly recommend! Oh, and it's free, with donations accepted.
