“Can't Go Wrong Here For A Special Occasion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

Valentine's Day was booked, so went the day before; what a great meal and service by Elle was top notch! Definitely try the Sataki (can share as an appetizer or small plate dinner); it's like personal habachi grilling. Salads were normal salads, but crisp and delicious. One in our party chose the antipasto plate as her meal and ate it all! My husband and I shared the Paella, but there was enough for 3 or more to share!!! Was excellent! Definitely try to reserve a table around the perimeter of the main section overlooking the water; adds to the ambiance. Be sure to go early enough to watch the sunset; beautiful view of the water. Will definitely go here again on next trip to Key West.

“Underwhelming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

Went there on our first night in Key West, based on reviews about their interesting seafood dishes. I had the scallops which were fresh, but served with bland risotto that not only needed salt, but was overcooked and a general disappointment.
The ribeye my spouse had was very good. Mussels were not fresh which is surprising given the location and the prices in the restaurant.
Overall, not a place i will come back to. Service was great and staff was very friendly and attentive.

“Awesome, Romantic View; Very Good Food; Service Disappointing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

Perfect weather; perfect location; perfect sunset; perfect view; romance in the air. Service started out very well, but diminished as the meal progressed. The appetizers were wonderful. The second plate (salads) never came until the 3rd plate (dinner) arrived, and we had to ask for the salads. The waiter was surprised ("they didn't come?"). The dinner should have had asparagus with the surf and turf, but was missing with the other vegetable (potato). We decided not to ask for the asparagus. However, all the food we did have was well prepared and very good; but not outstanding as I found at Lattitudes, The Dining Room at Little Palm Island or Louie's Backyard. I chose Hot Tin Roof for the view and wasn't disappointed. Had a wonderful time.

“Superb service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

The concierge at our guest house recommended Hot Tin Roof as being a romantic place with excellent food, and indeed this was good advice!
Despite the name that perhaps suggests otherwise, this restaurant is surprisingly elegant with sophisticated décor, menu, and service. The restaurant has an outdoor terrace that is apparently renowned as "the" place to go for dinner at sunset, but since it was coolish the evening we were there, we chose an elegant booth inside instead. Very loud live music--excellently performed!--from an adjacent outdoor jazz café was clearly audible throughout the restaurant, and if we had been sitting closer to the outside, it would have been too loud and an impediment to carrying on a conversation.
The highlight of our meal was the truly outstanding service by a young woman named Elie, who was exceptionally friendly, engaging, and attentive. She delivered that rare kind of service in which she anticipated every need or question and appeared as if by magic just at the moment when we needed more water, wine, etc. What a fantastic asset she is to Hot Tin Roof!
My lobster and avocado cocktail for the appetizer was the best food I had during our four-day stay in Key West. The rest of our food selections were good to very good.
Recommended for an elegant dinner.
