We went here based on the reviews on this site. Well we surely were dissapointed.
This is obviously a case of a place getting hyped due to an appearance on TV and mention in a few guidebooks.
This was the WORST meal of our entire trip to Key West. What exactly is so great here??
The portions are small, the sandwiches are much smaller than those available for cheaper at established restaurants.
The Grouper fillet was not fresh but frozen. The shrimp is from S. America (not local Keys shrimp - the lady at the cash told me that).
For the location and rough setting we figured it's be more reasonably priced than the established restaurants, this was not the case. Food here was more expensive than the much nicer restaurants on Duval.
We got a Grouper sandwich with fries and fried Shrimp with fries. There were 4 measly shrimps on the dish and the Grouper was the smallest thinnest piece of overfried fish we've seen (mcDonalds fillet-o-fish is 200% better than that).
The lunch cost us more than our previous nights dinner at Fogarty's and was also more expensive than a subsequent dinner at "Half Shell Raw Bar" (which is a wonderful place to eat, and just across the street).
The fries tasted awful and had obviously been cooked in old oil.
Basically this place is a fries wagon with some ratty tables and kitschy trash surrounding it. If you don't care about the food you eat and want to experience the novelty of eating amongst trailerpark style surroundings then this is your place.
However, if you are looking for really great seafood (locally caught), reasonably priced, huge quantities and tasty then walk across the street to Half Shell Raw Bar. Its on the water, you get to sit in a nice restaurant and soak up the atmosphere and it'll cost you less than BO's.
Their seafood menu is HUGE and the choices wonderful.
