First, let me start by saying I do not eat fish. Yes, I go to coastal towns and often find myself ordering the only non-fish thing on the menu. We were in Key West for a week, and I enjoyed every meal at every restaurant - except this one.
We thought this was going to be a special meal because this place was very hard to get into and we had to make reservations days ahead.
Well, the place was very small and people were seated very close to each other. The waitresses literally could not pass each in the aisles between the tables They had to back up to the end.
This, by itself, it not a bad thing, as many places are small and quaint. Well, this place was LOUD! We could not hear each other unless we almost yelled, and the sheer noise in the place (from people talking over an incredible noisy ventilation system) was very unpleasant.
There were a couple of non fish choices. I ordered the meatloaf. The portion was huge (2 big slices). At first the meatloaf tasted nice, but the cumulative effect of too much salt started to burn my tongue. The mashed potatoes that came with were even more salty - like ridiculously salty. The broccoli and carrots on the side were also soft (overcooked).
My wife tried my meal and agreed that it was too salty. For the record, she ordered the grouper and said "it was very very good but did not surprise me. More like comfort food."
If you want great food without the days of waiting, go to Azur on Flemming.
The service was excellent. When the waitress came by (over halfway through the meal) to ask how our meal was, I just shrugged as I did not want to make big deal. She did not keep going as others might do, she asked me more directly if I like my meal and I admitted it was crazy-salty. She said that I should have said something sooner, as they did not wa people not enjoying my meal. She asked what else I would like to eat. Given the limited non-fish options, I chose the mushroom quesadilla appetizer. It turned out to be much better than described, as it was made with Brie cheese. We also ordered the key lime cheesecake which was HUGE and was very tasty, and only mildly tasted like lime.
When the bill came, we were not charged for the meatloaf. Very professional of them!
Also, I must note - their toilet paper was the softest I found in any establishment ever!
