This restaurant was absolutely wonderful!!! We started off at Nine One Five and didn't really like the menu or the fact that they only served beer and wine so we walked down duval and found this gem!! We were seated upstairs on the outside porch that overlooked Duval street. There was a wedding party there, which shocked us but now we know why. The food was delicious. We ordered 2 appetizers, the portabello eggrolls and the seafood puff pastry so good. Then we had the Tuna and Curry Chicken OMG!! We are in love with this restaurant. It truly is great and I really think it should be at the top of this list of restaurants!!!
We ate breakfast here - it was 11 AM and we ordered something very, very simple - sparkling water and scramled eggs, bacon, and toast. 45 minutes later after asking what was going on - it arrived. Yup, that is not a typo - 45 minutes!!!
Our server was dressed like a slob and just looked way too unprofessional for my taste.
However, the food was good - not great - just good.
We don't plan on going back.
My wife and I have been dining at the "Bag" for 21 years. We have our favorites - seafood chowder, tuna tataki, fresh stone crab claws, pasta with seafood, curried chicken, too many to mention. We have almost never been disappointed. Many times we have been blown away by the quallity and creativity of the food - like the Macademia crusted grouper. Anyway . . . the ambiance of an island restaurant right on Duval street is unique. Great for people watching, chatting with friends, or romantic celebrations. Fine dining costs this much back in our hometown, but nowhere near as special.
Recently had drinks and dinner on a Friday night. Super friendly barkeeps downstairs and a great table on the railing upstairs. Once again great food including a surf and turf with a tempura fried lobster tail. They now have smaller portions as well as the larger size. We found this helpful for someone watching their calories.
This special dining place continues to satisfy. Be sure to give it a shot when you are in the Keys.
I read the reviews before going last week. Frankly, I thought one person must be writing the reviews because I've been going for 20 years now. The seafood chowder has been the BEST thing I have literally ever tasted. It was a golden, creamy, rich, velvety, sinful soup. I have fantasized over that chowder for decades, getting another ingridient every time we visit. That said, this was going to be the highlight of my trip.
We went for lunch, Monday, June 19, 2007. I eagerly ordered and was completely confused when the server brought it to the table. It is no longer golden, more light yellow. No longer creamy, it was chunks of fish, etc. No hint of sherry. The fish didn't taste fresh. I was so disappointed I took one bite and left it. The server knew I was upset but never asked what the problem was or how the food was. We also ordered the Golden Margaritas which used to come with a shot glass of the Grand Mariner. No more.
