Heard about the great steaks so went there and had a very expensive one. I've definitely had better and for less money.

It was my birthday and my night to choose the restaurant. I read several reviews of top restaurants in Key West, combined with eight plus years experience in Key West. We found the perfect place. Michaels combined a great restaurant that still kept the Key West flavor. Located on a quiet street away from the hustle bustle of Duval Street. The ambiance was Key West/NY Steakhouse. The outside aresa had a cool bar with an outdoor eating area with a water fountain. THe service from the beginning was very professional but friendly. Starting with the normal steakhouse drinks keeping with the fun Key West vibe. Dinner was great starting with an herbed fried brie cheese over an arugala salad with fresh papaya. The main course was a smoked chicken penne pasta with a pesto dressinjg, very good but i would reccomend staying with the normal stealkhouse meat fare. My choice was the award winning stuffed veal chop. Top notch gourmet farel Perfectly cooked with prociutto ham and mozzerella. Excellent sums it up. The nigh ended with the volcano chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and an after dinner drink at the bar. A better birthday nigh could not be had, great food, great atmosphere and great people, we will return!!!
Pricey but worth it. The food & service are immaculate. Their steaks are famous and the reputation is well deserved, they melt in your mouth. My favorite was the lobster bisque and chocolate volcano dessert- amazing!!
First, let me tell you we are not new to upscale dining. We have eaten at the best restuarants in the country and beyond...so, naturally, when we were in Key West we seeked out the "best".
We did not have reservations and were told to comeback at 9PM (It was 8 when we arrived) - although we saw plenty of tables available - under staffed? Okay - no problem - we thought we just had to try Michael's so we came back at 9. The hostess seemed surprised that we actually came back - even though we made a reservation and left a phone #. (?)
The ambiance was very nice - we sat outside - candle lit and cozy...this was the best part....it went down hill from there. Instead of being told the specials we were quickly told what they were out of. Our server had no personality - seemed miserable and made no eye contact. Ordered drinks and they took forever.
The food was just okay. The crab cake was so tiny for $12. We shared everything including the signature filet mignon. The filet was okay, but have had much better elsewhere. The creme brulee was a let down. No berries, and very plain.
Overall, we still can't figure out why this is so popular...perhaps it is lack of fine dining choices in Key West? I think that must be it because this is way overrated!
My brother and new sister-in-law had their wedding reception at Michaels. We were seated in a private room and had more than enough very attentive staff to assist us. Our wine and champagne glasses were never empty. The plates were overfilled with food. The stuffed portabello mushroom was huge! The pasta I had was enough for two adults! And the Key Lime pie.... I don't know how to describe it. We had a slice from the Key Lime pie factory on the island, Michaels was ten times better! It left us wanting to go back for more all week!
