We had lunch and it was sooo much fun. We waited at the bar -- for lunchtime, 12:00 (maybe that was why it was fun!!) No, the food was great. I had the Mahi lunch special--yum. My husband had the jerk chicken, I couldn't order the chicken with so many watching me!! I loved the kitties and the chickens. All the people were so nice-something that must be indigenous to the keys.

This was my fourth trip to Key West. Each time I cannot wait to get back to Blue Heaven. The food is outstanding - very fresh, not heavy, and full of flavor. During our trip to Key West last week, we ate at Blue Heaven twice for dinner. We had the jerk chicken and the fresh catch which was grouper. One of the evenings we enjoyed some scallops which were huge and juicy. Be sure to sit near a fan in the summer. Blue Heaven has a great courtyard atmosphere, but you want to be near the moving air. Every evening they feature live entertainment. One of the nights, we truly enjoyed two gentleman singing standards which made the atmosphere even more relaxed and enjoyable.

There's some interesting history behind this restaurant...Hemingway is said to have visited there on occasion. But much like the rest of Key West...this is not the same place at all that he frequented. That is to say it's no longer a little dive/bar but fancies itself an upscale dining establishment.

This restaurant is very expensive and the food is good but not particularly outstanding. Portion sizes were average, presentation was average, and most of the food was rather simple...corn/rice/cornbread, simple butter sauce with the fish. The price is not worth the food alone...not even close.

My husband and I ate here 3 times on our trip to Key West. Twice for breakfast, once for dinner.
Quite simply, this was the best place for breakfast that we found. I had the eggs benedict and then a ham and cheese omelette. Most definetly the eggs benedict was the best.
We went there on a Monday night for dinner and our server, Wendy, was great. My husband went with the jerk shrimp and I had the surf and turf which consisted of jerk shrimp and a 10 oz. filet. Everything was amazing. It was one of the best filet's I have ever had and the shrimp was beyond compare. Even the corn was delightful, full of flavor and extremely fresh. For dessert we had Key Lime Pie and Banana Heaven. Do not pass up Banan Heaven. The name says it all. Warm homemade banana bread, with ice cream and caramel. It was outstanding.
This place is definetly on the expensive side. Also, you can tell the people that are a little fussy. I loved to sit outside and watch the shocked people when the first chicken squawked by. Truly priceless.
Definetly save this for a weeknight so that you can savour and enjoy without being rushed. It is not to be missed.
