We were looking for a hotel with a pool that was pet friendly. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was minimal, but free. We didn't move the car. Walked everywhere. Dog needed to be crated if we weren't in room. Other guests were from all over, interesting chats. Pool was clean. Overall quiet Would stay here again

To start things off, my husband and I are in our mid-30's, left the kids at home for a fun week in Key West. We like to have fun, we do drink, but we are not really the "Nascar" crowd, nor are we the Power Boat crowd (which look about the same to me). We came during "Power Boat Week" November 2011, because our schedules permitted it, not for the Power Boats. The Power Boat races are geared toward middle aged (and older) Americans who get really drunk and watch the power boats race. The big boat companies also display the boats on the island and apparently sell boats, too. There were quite a few of them at the hotel- quite drunk, quite loud, many of them with their leathery, wrinkled, unattractive pieces and parts hanging out everywhere. It did not add to the ambiance or attractiveness of the hotel. This hotel is well worn but clean. The decor is very dated- think 80's Golden Girls Florida decor. It is 2 different buildings which have been joined together by a series of walkways. This is no problem, it is just something I did not realize from the website. The pool is small, but was mostly unoccupied. The staff was hot and cold. They have probably seen it all. They have very strict refund/cancellation rules during specific weeks so be mindful of that. This hotel is somewhat off the beaten path but that was a plus for us. Duval Street is a lot of fun, but I don't think I'd want to sleep within a few blocks of it. They rent bikes and you should definitely rent one instead of attempting to drive. The price to rent bikes was fair, but the bikes had seen better days. I am glad they did not charge me for "damage" to the bike because the bikes come pre-damaged. The brakes and light worked so that's all you really need, right? Biking around the island is perfectly safe and there is no parking anywhere on the island anyway. A plus about their location is they are really close to the Key West Cemetery which is unique and a must see- (above ground caskets stacked 4 and 5 high? check!, hilarious epitaphs? check!, old/new voodoo offerings found on said caskets? check! ) Definitely take a look at the cemetery.
The hotel has a full kitchen which is available for guests' use, including a large refrigerator, stove, etc. There is a good sandwich place in walking distance, a grocery store, and a liquor store, and EVERYTHING on the island of Key West is within bike riding distance anyway.
Overall we had a good time, no real complaints although after riding around the entire island we did see some places we might try next time, in the same price range.
I do not know if they allow kids, but I would not recommend this as a kid-friendly hotel. This is more of an adult oriented hotel, and if you are coming for the Power Boat races, this place is DEFINITELY for you!

Yes, there are definitely times not just on our property, but in Key West in general where noise and a general adult atmosphere will be found. I would absolutely suggest to any guest that is specifically looking for peace and quiet or a non-partying atmosphere to do some research. Check to make sure a special event is not occurring as Key West has a number of great happenings throughout the year.

Nice quit place a little away from Duval st. nice pool, great staff and an amazing front porch. Car parking is tricky as it is anywhere on the island. but bike and scooter parking right out front.

We recently stayed here for a week. Added days on to beginning and end of trip, so stayed in 3 different rooms. The staff was outstanding, Emily, Philip, Becky, Daniel and all of the housekeeping staff. (hope I didn't leave anyone out) Not a luxury hotel, a few quirks , but spotlessly clean, thick towels and lots of them. Kitchen available for use of the guests. Good continental breakfast with fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, assortment of breads and pastries and french toast. Would recommend and will stay again.

Room Tip: Room 1A- small but nice with a quiet location. Room 1-Turret room with lots of windows. Not a probl...

We come to Key West once a year on the ferry from Fort Myers. As our regular guest house was booked, we decided to try the The Palms. We were not disappointed. Although our room was very small (our choice) it was very clean and fresh smelling. One of the best ways to throughly enjoy Key West is to rent bicycles which they have on the premises. The breakfast was way beyond continental and consisted of fruits, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, bagels, toast, pastries, coffee, juice etc. and Danny kept it well stocked. The caged birds on the premises are a nice touch, pool was sparkling clean. Staff was helpful and friendly. We were able to store our luggage and use the bikes until our ferry left. There are a lot of choices in KW, this one is reasonably priced and off the beaten path. It's an island so everything is brought in and expensive! We would recommend the Palms and would definately stay again.

The hotel was charming and conveniently located, within walking distance to Duval St., the Hemingway House, etc. Rooms were clean and comfortable, bathrooms had quality amenities and plenty of thick towels. Nice continental breakfast served by the pool. We had a lovely balcony room overlooking the street. Our only complaint would be the minimal soundproofing. We could hear all the outside street noises.

Traveled to Key West in July 2011 and had a great time. The hotel was just okay, but it was a short distance from downtown (long walk or short cab ride). The room was dingy, the beds were really uncomfortable, and the shower was really small. The breakfast in the morning was just okay as well. Very limited parking, I suggest renting a scooter rather than a car. If you're just looking for a decent place to crash with a pool and nothing luxurious, then this is the place to stay!
