“Delightful oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

There is good reason why Atlantis House is at the top of the Key West Guesthouses/B&Bs on TripAdvisor. Based on previous reviews, we spent almost a week in the smaller of the two guest suites ("Garden Suite") and thanked our lucky stars more than once!
Our suite was tasteful and comfortable, with all the conveniences we could ask for (fridge, microwave, jacuzzi, coffeemaker), wonderful, thick bathrobes and towels (including beach towels) and one of the most comfortable mattresses I've experienced. The secluded deck and garden onto which both suites open are just beautiful. We enjoyed a delicious, light breakfast ($30/couple) out there on our last morning. Kayla does amazing things with fresh, organic food (though it isn't included in the cost of the suite)!
For extra cost, you can also have a "fresh catch" dinner of fish ($100/couple) or lobster ($120/couple)--hand caught by host Steve--that is exquisite. We had the lobster (BIG lobster hors d'oeuvre, whole lobster tail, coconut rice, salad, and the best key lime pie on the island) and I couldn't say whether it was more beautiful or delicious. Probably our most memorable meal of the week.
Hosts Steve and Kayla couldn't be more helpful or caring. Steve was happy to take us to and from the airport, and the complimentary bicycles are the best way to get around the island. Atlantis House is about a 10-minute bike ride from the southern end of Duval Street, the commercial "mainline" of Key West. We loved being away from the busy-ness of downtown and so close to Higgs Beach (reserve your recliners and umbrella the day before!) and the Botanical Garden.
We also paid for Steve's "eco-tour" boat ride to Boca Grande, where we enjoyed wading, shelling, and watching the osprey and their nest, before doing some snorkeling at the "patch reef" not far from there. It was a pleasant way to spend a sunny day, though a bit pricey at $400/couple. The jacuzzi was a fabulous culmination of our wildlife excursion!
We had the loveliest week on Key West, thanks in much part to Steve, Kayla, and Atlantis House!

Room Tip: "Garden Suite" was perfect for us, but the "Master Suite" is much roomier.

Wow, what a nice review! Thank you so much for taking the time to include every detail. We dedicate ourselves to our guests comfort and enjoyment of all that Key West had to offer and it sounds as if you had the opportunity to experience a little of everything! With just two rooms, our goal is to offer the finest service possible for each and every guest. We are delighted that you had the chance to take advantage of the eco trip, breakfast and fresh catch dinner and that you were comfortable and at home in your room. We take great pride in what we offer here at the Atlantis House but your tremendous compliments are humbling. Thanks again and we look forward to having you as our guests for future visits to Key West.

My best friend and I recently spent 5 nights in the Garden Suite at this intimate gem of a B&B----look no further----book it NOW!....you will not regret it!......our lodging was comfortable, quiet, and serene.... the owners, Steve and Kayla, are truly "hosts with the mosts".....they are helpful in so many different ways--they really work hard to meet all of their guests' hopes, dreams, and expectations--- we took an informative eco-tour with Capt. Steve and had them prepare an incredible lobster dinner for us one night (best on the island.....).....we rode their bikes everywhere and also really appreciated the complimentary transportation back and forth to the airport.......thank you for a marvelous time in your fascinating city!

Wow, were you guys fun. It was truly a pleasure having you stay with us and I enjoyed your enthusiasm and inquisitiveness on our eco-adventure trip! I'll never forget the Osprey defending the nest from the Turkey buzzard that was relentless. It was our pleasure serving you the lobster dinner and glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the wonderful review and hope to have you as our guests again!

Stayed for 4 wonderful nights at Atlantis House. Kayla and Capt Steve are wonderful hosts. On our last day we had a great trip with Capt Steve dolphin watching, followed by a wonderful meal in the evening cooked by Kayla and Steve - and their cooking is also outstanding!

The accommodation was spacious, the bed very comfortable, great bathroom with huge bath and shower. and a separate small lounge. Steve really looks after his garden, and it was lovely to eat our breakfast out there.

A wonderful trip and this must be THE place to stay in Key West. We advise you to book early as there are only two rooms and this place is understandably popular!

Many thanks Steve and Kayla for a wonderful start to our vacation.

Room Tip: Both of the rooms are great. Look on their website and decide what suits you best

Just returned from 2 fantastic weeks with wife as guests at Atlantis House. Thanks to Tripadvisor's many reviewers, who I followed for months, this was the place to stay in Key West. Captain Steve and Kayla provide everything you need and go above and beyond to make sure you have the best trip. The location is perfect, away from the noise of Duval yet only a nice little bike ride on provided bikes to get anywhere. Across street from bike/running/walking path which was perfect for some daily exercise which is needed due to the great food in Key West and also being a little 'overserved' with nightly libations. Also right between two beaches steps away - Higgs and Smathers. The room, we stayed in the Master suite, is incredible, 600 sq ft, king bed large flat screen, large hot tub which we used daily. Spotless, eclectic and other than the stray rooster, quiet as can be. Fridge, microwave and coffee maker with provided coffee/tea. SO NICE !!!! Again, the best part - Steve and Kayla. While we had a fantastic time and visiting many great restaurants and bars, the best dinner (fresh fish dip, lobster app- much bigger and tastlier than the dinner lobster at Lattitudes and this was just an app- squash soap, fresh green salad, coconut ginger rice, fresh bar jack fish - the fish and lobster caught by Steve days before, we both love fish/seafood and have had it many places and this was the best we have ever had, and key lime pie or bread pudding to die for, which we've never had better, ended with espresso and WOW !! the best lunch, fesh caught hogfish sandwich, again WOW !!, the best day, eco trip with Captain Steve and Kayla on his spotless 19ft boat out to boca grande about 16 miles to when we arrived a beautiful secluded deserted beach. All with Steve and Kayla enlightening us with info about the area. When we wanted to get away, the back garden was a beautiful exotic peaceful garden. We could not have had a better stay or found a nicer place and hosts. Their 20 years of being on Key West is invaluable for advise and quidance and you will not find two nicer people.
THANK YOU Steve,Kayla,Max and Nemo!!
p.s. while we stayed in the Master suite we got to see the Garden Suite and it too was beautifully decorated, we would not hesitate for a second to stay there. Plenty big enough for us.

Room Tip: Whichever is available....

Everything that everyone says about Kayla and Steve is true-best key lime pie, very helpful, and genuinely hospitable people. It would be wonderful if every establishment could be this inviting. We loved the beautiful garden area. Thanks to Steve for the delicious Hogfish sandwich. This sets the standard for fish sandwiches. We will be back. Both of us agreed that Key West was more than we ever expected, thanks to Kayla and Steve.

We spent a week in Key West with hosts Steve and Kayla on the quite side of town at Atlantis House. The beautiful, well-tended garden is a great place to relax between activities. Steve offered lots of advice on restaurants and nightlife. And Kayla's key lime pie beat all the restaurant pies we tried. We used the complimentary bikes to go everywhere. Go with this small inn - much more personal than the downtown hotels and motels.

There are only two rooms here, we had the Master Suite with bar area and jacuzzi. The room was beautiful, we slept so well - it was so quiet! The backyard patio area is gorgeous and very relaxing. Steve and Kayla are amazing hosts - if Kayla has made her key lime pie during your stay you are in for a real treat. Seriously, it was the best I had in Key West. I really can't say enough good things, we really loved it here.

Some things to consider, the location is a bit from Duval Street but not too far that getting there is an issue. We loved being off the main drag because it was so quiet. We rode the free bikes Steve and Kayla offered everywhere and could easily get to Duval Street and all the restaurants. If you are not in riding bikes everywhere and are not keen on having to drive while on vacation in Key West, the location may pose some issues for you. We really had no trouble with it at all, the bikes take you everywhere you need to go in about 5-15 minutes.

Higgins Beach is very close, easily walkable (it's beyond Rest Beach, which isn't conducive to sitting out). Higgins beach is a public beach so keep that in mind, it's not a secluded private area. But it is a beautiful beach and we enjoyed it.

Also keep in mind if this is your first trip to Key West that there is a homeless population, and you will see some homeless folks occasionally on your biking treks. But we never once felt the slightest bit unsafe or uncomfortable, I just mention it so folks aren't surprised. Everyone was always friendly and kind - it must be the Key West lifestyle.

Louie's Backyard is very close - great bar right on the water.

I highly recommend this place for couples who want a quiet, relaxing and personal Key West experience. But if being off the beaten path isn't your style, this may not be your ideal place.

Thank you for the wonderful review! Glad you found Atlantis House "One of the most relaxing places you've stayed." Besides the beautiful rooms (which Capt. Steve designed and built and Kayla decorated) and tranquil Gardens of which Capt. Steve planted everything and maintains... our location is what makes us quiet and exclusive. Today with Google maps and even better Google Earth you can take a little journey and see exactly where we are located. We are the only guest house in Key West next to a park, and better, a 6 acre indigenous park and wildlife rescue facility (nice compliment to Capt. Steve's Eco-Tours). Guests are amazed how quiet we are! We are also the closest guest house to Key West's Marine Park, White St Pier (great for sunrises and sunsets), the Civil War West Martello home of the Garden Club (if you like plants and history) and 40 yds from Rest Beach (indigenous) and 1 block from Higgs Beach! The whole island of Key West is 3.5 miles x 1.25 and you can be anywhere on a bike in 5-10 minutes. Atlantis House offers 3 sets of complimentary bikes for our guests. We are on the South side, centrally located on the island, 40 yds from the Atlantic Ocean, 1.75 miles from any location in Key West and 1 mile from the Southern end of Duval St. Thanks again for the excellent review!
