“One of the most relaxing places I've stayed at”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

There are only two rooms here, we had the Master Suite with bar area and jacuzzi. The room was beautiful, we slept so well - it was so quiet! The backyard patio area is gorgeous and very relaxing. Steve and Kayla are amazing hosts - if Kayla has made her key lime pie during your stay you are in for a real treat. Seriously, it was the best I had in Key West. I really can't say enough good things, we really loved it here.

Some things to consider, the location is a bit from Duval Street but not too far that getting there is an issue. We loved being off the main drag because it was so quiet. We rode the free bikes Steve and Kayla offered everywhere and could easily get to Duval Street and all the restaurants. If you are not in riding bikes everywhere and are not keen on having to drive while on vacation in Key West, the location may pose some issues for you. We really had no trouble with it at all, the bikes take you everywhere you need to go in about 5-15 minutes.

Higgins Beach is very close, easily walkable (it's beyond Rest Beach, which isn't conducive to sitting out). Higgins beach is a public beach so keep that in mind, it's not a secluded private area. But it is a beautiful beach and we enjoyed it.

Also keep in mind if this is your first trip to Key West that there is a homeless population, and you will see some homeless folks occasionally on your biking treks. But we never once felt the slightest bit unsafe or uncomfortable, I just mention it so folks aren't surprised. Everyone was always friendly and kind - it must be the Key West lifestyle.

Louie's Backyard is very close - great bar right on the water.

I highly recommend this place for couples who want a quiet, relaxing and personal Key West experience. But if being off the beaten path isn't your style, this may not be your ideal place.

Thank you for the wonderful review! Glad you found Atlantis House "One of the most relaxing places you've stayed." Besides the beautiful rooms (which Capt. Steve designed and built and Kayla decorated) and tranquil Gardens of which Capt. Steve planted everything and maintains... our location is what makes us quiet and exclusive. Today with Google maps and even better Google Earth you can take a little journey and see exactly where we are located. We are the only guest house in Key West next to a park, and better, a 6 acre indigenous park and wildlife rescue facility (nice compliment to Capt. Steve's Eco-Tours). Guests are amazed how quiet we are! We are also the closest guest house to Key West's Marine Park, White St Pier (great for sunrises and sunsets), the Civil War West Martello home of the Garden Club (if you like plants and history) and 40 yds from Rest Beach (indigenous) and 1 block from Higgs Beach! The whole island of Key West is 3.5 miles x 1.25 and you can be anywhere on a bike in 5-10 minutes. Atlantis House offers 3 sets of complimentary bikes for our guests. We are on the South side, centrally located on the island, 40 yds from the Atlantic Ocean, 1.75 miles from any location in Key West and 1 mile from the Southern end of Duval St. Thanks again for the excellent review!

Fabulous B&B. Kayla & Steve are wonderful friendly hosts. Accommodates were perfect - suite and outside garden/deck (several separate areas to relax). We stayed in the Garden Suite and was quite pleased. The Turkest cotton bath towels were a plus! The garden is goreous, quiet and very relaxing. Beaches and scenic areas/downtown were walking distance. Definitely recommend a stay here! Couple in next suite were there for the 13th time - that easily says it's great place. Thanks Kayla & Steve! This was our third time staying with the Captain and Kayla and it only gets better every time. You will be hard pressed to find more accommodating hosts and a more lovely setting – everything is perfect from the room to the amenities, to the gardens, to the complimentary bikes – perfecto!

One evening Steve served up a hogfish sandwich – perhaps the most delicate fish I have ever eaten and Kayla’s key lime pie is truly the best I’ve had on or off the island and I like to think I make a pretty good key lime pie, but nothing touches Kayla’s.

By now we feel like we’re visiting old friends. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else while in Key West. If you choose to stay at Atlantis House you’ll have the time of your life – it is really living the life in paradise!

My husband and I stayed at Atlantis House for our honeymoon July 1-7, 2012. It was our first visit to Key West and we were greeted by Steve and Kayla at the airport! It was evident from the beginning that they truly wanted to make our visit as fantastic as possible. They were like our own personal guides on the island by sharing their opinions on the best restaurants, activities, and amenities. We also had the privilege of meeting their dog, Nemo, and their son, Max who were both very friendly and welcoming!!
We stayed in the Garden Suite which was perfect. We had everything we needed and more. We did extensive research prior to choosing where we wanted to stay and compared ratings and prices. Atlantis House had better rates than a lot of other bed and breakfasts which weren't nearly as nice, but were closer to Duval St.. The main difference is Atlantis House is more secluded and farther from Duval Street which we found to be ideal for a honeymoon spot. It was the perfect location because it was quiet and serene but still only a 5-10 minute bike ride to all of the restaurants, bars, and attractions.
We enjoyed a beautiful and delicious breakfast on the patio our second morning there and enjoyed transporting ourselves around the island on the bikes that they provided for free! While on Duval St., we were chatting with another couple who frequently visited Key West about our stay at Atlantis House, and they were amazed that we found a place so accommodating and who fixed us Key Lime Pie (which as many have already said is hands-down the best is Key West)!!
On our last day, we went on the Eco-Tour which was incredible. It was so beautiful, and Steve and Kayla made excellent tour guides because of their extensive knowledge about Key West and the surrounding areas. We frequently reminisce about our trip and will definitely return to Atlantis House on our next visit to Key West!

In June of 2011, my boyfriend proposed to me in the little garden area of Atlantis House so Key West will always hold a special place in my heart. Atlantis House is a cozy bed and breakfast that is perfect for couples looking to get away from it all and relax and enjoy the beauty and warmth that only a Florida destination can provide. We are from Austin, Tx where the beaches just can't compare so I was really looking forward to our trip. I knew my boyfriend was most likely going to propose, and my 30th birthday was just around the corner and he wanted to make it extra special and memorable for me. So we found Atlantis House and flew into Miami and made the beautiful drive. We were tired after our trip, but Kayla gave us a warm welcome and made us feel right at home in the master suite of Atlantis House. The room did not disappoint and we felt transported into a happy getaway. It was nice and clean with a big jacuzzi tub we couldn't wait to share! Across the street was a private pool we had all access to that came to be one of our favorite parts of the trip. Lounging in the private pool and enjoying the day was certainly a highlight. Kayla recommended some great restaurants to try that were still open as it was getting late and we really appreciated that since we were new to the area and tired travelers. She didn't linger too long either which we also appreciated. Our time during Key West and Atlantis House was a joyous time full of wonderful memories. We loved our hosts Captain Steve and Kayla for their warmth and kindness. They are both top notch people and they run a fabulous business!! We can't say enough about them and we highly recommend you stay at Atlantis House! We had breakfast on the patio one day and I named a little turtle Ned who was scurrying around. It's just little things like this that I personally love. Call me crazy. I like the little things in life that make it interesting and Atlantis House has those "little things; little details" that make it memorable and special. Another night, my now husband, and I went on a boat ride to Sunset Key for a fancy dinner after he proposed to me and I said yes and it was just a glorious night with the sky illuminating behind in such a way as if to say, Congratulations! I also recommend the Key West Butterfly Conservatory. It is remarkable! And do the tourist thing and see the Southernmost point for fun. Ask Captain Steve and Kayla for their recommendations and which beaches to check out because they know! Use them for their awesome knowledge and they will point you in the right direction! I hope this review helps ya'll. Now, book a trip to Key West and stay at Atlantis House! You won't regret it!

I was great to hear from you and congratulations on your marriage! It's our pleasure to be the spot where a lot of our guests have proposed! One mention, the pool we use to have access across the street is no longer available, however, our guests do have access to the pool at the yacht club where Capt. Steve keeps his boat. Another great place if your looking for something more lively is Dante's Pool which is open to the public. Thanks again for staying with us and hope to see you back for an Anniversary!

We stayed in the Master Suite which comes with a beautifully furnished room, including a small kitchen and enormous bathroom. The outside patio has three different areas to relax in and a wide selection of tropical plants.

The location is a mile from the town centre (an easy bike ride) and close to two good beaches. There is also a really good beach bar/restaurant close by.

Steve is a great host, very welcoming and efficient. Booking at short notice was easy to do.

Steve also offers trips on his boat and is an expert fishing guide.

This was our first experience in Key West and it was pure luck we found Atlantis.

To honest it was the only place Hotel, Inn or B & B available on the dates we wished to make our first visit to the Keys. It was pure frustration at that point when we contacted Atlantis and asked them to hold our room for a 1/2 hour while we contacted the Key West reservation service for accomodation choices and all the nice lady there said; "Book it!"
And that we did.
The Master room was only available as there are only 2 rooms but it was sumptious, engaging and super comfortable; Bed the size of a basketball court.
We were greeted by #1 son Max who was gracious and informative.
His father Steve was also a great source of local information
in addition to being the consument host..

What we really liked about Atlantis was the location;

1) Off the beaten track ... so quiet and offered a adventure everyday heading out.

2) Referring to 1) Atlantis offered free bicycles which is the ONLY way to see KW. Scooters are annoying and electric cars are ... you might as well drive your own vehicle and fight the parking. Bicycling through KW was wonderful.

3) Access to KW through White Street where Sandy's cuban breakfast joint was, or nearby The Meadows neighbourhood, the Cementery, the Library .... Yes, ALL was nearby.

Every time we featured out for the day or dinner was a wonderful adventure.

And how much fun can one have drunk biking!?! Hugh ...

And speaking of liquor ... Margaritas or pre-dinner wine was a lovely experience
in the garden area just steps from our private entrance.

If we come back to KW we would come back with friends and book both rooms.

Room Tip: Stick to the bicycles as it is so much more fun. Did I mention the free parking at Atlantis?
