We were here July 3-6, 2008 The location on the East coast is good if you want to be away from the Duval St. crazies, but it is a long walk to the attractions on the west coast. A lot of Art works and Galleries on the east end. A great little Cuban market down the street with Cuban bread breakfast sandwich deals and Cuban coffee. Lots of other nice places walking distance.
The hotel is old, old but re-furbished. Our "cottage" was actually a string of 5 rooms behind the main building. Parking can be a problem due to the ever-present inconsiderate SOBs and their huge pickup trucks and SUVs taking up multiple spaces. The room was indeed clean w/ small microwave and fridge. The wall unit A/C worked well but too noisy. Could not darken the room blinds. Little things that diminish your experience.
NOT worth $200 a night, sorry, at any rate. Definately NOT above average. No tub, only a shower. Slow drain in shower, had to double flush the toilet all the time. No wireless internet in our location -- had to go 50 feet to the pool area...and I have good gear. If you are going to advertise Internet, make sure EVERYONE can receive it !!!
The continental breakfast is OK if you want a banana and a danish. People were friendly. I might have rated this higher for $125 a night.
A plus was the fireworks were walking distance away. We paid $20 each at the Casa Marina hotel for their beach party fundraiser and had outdoor buffet, all you could eat, happy crowds, and great fireworks.
This is NOT a modern hotel. Do not expect that and you will enjoy it more. The pool is overheated for summer also. Like a bathtub. Next time we are going to try one of the B&Bs instead.
