We were at Marrero's in mid September and we loved it. The mansion is old and charming....high ceilings....large rooms and a great clothing optional pool which we enjoyed everyday.
The resort is 1/2 block from Duval Street so the action is not far away. There is a light breakfast every morning and a happy hour every afternoon. We have already booked a week there in June, 2008.

Our only disappointment was we didn't see the ghost! Everything else about our stay (our first) was exceptional. We'll definitely go back next year. John and Alisa are wonderful. The rooms are well appointed with a mini-frig, air co and balconies on some. No hair dryers or irons in the rooms but they are available on request. The clothing optional pool was comfortable, clean and private. The breakfast buffet and happy hour were great. A block from Duval Street, couldn't be a better location! Just loved it!

  • Liked — Comfortable atmosphere
  • Disliked — Some of the guests were into swinging, don't normally expect that with simply clothing option. Defintely not the hotels fault!

This was our first stay at Marrero's, but it won't be our last. The people-- both staff and other guests-- were very friendly. The daily complimentary Happy Hour was relaxing and fun. The clothing-optional pool provided a great deal of privacy. Finally, the house itself is absolutely beautiful. We're already planning our next trip.

  • Liked — One good thing is that the place has a policy of only renting rooms to people 21 and over. As a result, this a quiet place for grown ups to relax.

We just returned from our 5th visit to Marrero's and as always we had a great time! John and his team mate Alisa work hard to provide a consistent and pleasant atmosphere. It isn't an easy task folks from what we've observed over the years but John accomplishes this. He is an unobtrusive host but provides guests with pleasant rooms, a good continental style breakfast and happy hour. We love it as do our good friends who have returned with us for fun and much needed R & R!
Key West has a number of guesthouses in the area and Marrero's is one of the few that provides a pool that is clothing optional. If you are not in favor of or comfortable with a nude atmosphere then please consider another lodging establishment where clothing is mandatory. Over the years we've found clothing optional to be the reason tourists stay there and return again and again.
We look forward to our next Key West/Marrero's visit!

my beautiful bride and i recently returned from our amazing honeymoon in key west, florida. after reading plenty of reviews we chose marrero's for our special trip. we are both very glad we made this choice. from the moment we arrived we felt right at home. we started out in room 19 for 3 nights, than moved to room 20 for the last night. both rooms were very clean and well kept. they did show signs of age, but who wants brand new polished bedroom features when staying in a 140 year old mansion??? we did take a tour of pilot house and if someone were looking for the newest, shinest stuff than pilot house would be a better choice. but if you are looking for a beautiful, restored, well kept, victorian guest mansion with an antique feel than marrero's is a great choice. it's literally right on the corner of all of the action on duvall st. and less than a 10 minute walk from the pier by the ocean. all of the historic key west food and drink spots are within a couple blocks of marrero's. my wife and i also loved the clothing-optional pool. this was our first clothing-optional adventure and we both felt totally comfortable. which says a lot since she's never been seen in the buff by anyone else before in her life. but when you journey into the back yard and let the tropical sun hit your back you feel totally comfortable and ready to jump in. we met some nice people, had way too much great food and booze, and we look forward to returning asap. the roosters were all over the place, but we found it more charming than disturbing. john was a great host... not very talkative, but he was pleasant with us the entire time. and he offers everyone free drinks during happy hour, which is a lovely feature. there was really nothing for us to complain about. we have a perfect stay in paradise.

  • Liked — Clothing-Optional Pool, Free Happy Hour, Antique Beauty
  • Disliked — we had to come home...
