My partner and I stayed for 4 nights at Alexander's. We chose this Gay/Lesbian Guesthouse based on the reviews on Tripadvisor. Specially for gay men, you do have a lot of guesthouses to choose from in Key West, but we are so happy we chose this one.
As other reviewers have pointed out, Alexander's is located at the eastern "end" of Old Town Key West, in a rather quiet area. This was fine with us since everything in Key West is in walking distance. Also we do like it quiet at night. Duval street with all its shopping and entertainment is about 10 blocks away and if you're not up to walking, you can always rent a bike or a scooter to move around the city. You can rent bikes (and probably also scooters) through the wonderful front desk staff who are extremely knowledgeable about what's going and what to do. They make you feel welcome right from the moment you arrive, have all the information you need and help you with anything you want during your stay.
There were slightly more gay women than gay men there during our stay and this was absolutely fine with us. This is an upscale guesthouse with guest from all over the US plus us two Germans and one Briton at the time we stayed.
The continental breakfast that is included was just perfect for a good start into the day. They offer freshly baked muffins, eggs to order, bagels, toast, fresh fruit and cereals.
The atmosphere is very friendly -- everyone gets to talk to anyone and people gather around the pool at breakfast and during the complimentary Happy Hour in the afternoon speaking about what they've done and experienced the night before or what's on their list for the day.
Happy Hour is very social and the bartenders more than entertaining. They serve you almost any kind of drink completely free from 4:30 to 6:30.
Our room (room 1) was one of the smaller roooms, however we found it to be more than sufficient. It had a great kingsize bed and a wet bar including a microwave and a fridge. It was tastefully decorated, only the bathroom was very tiny, but we were fine with that. Every guest at the property, which is made up from 3 houses, seemed to like their rooms.
One night we had dinner at Café Sole just two blocks around the corner. After making a reservation through the front desk, they gave us a voucher for a free bottle of wine with two entrées ordered. Don't miss out on that offer. The food was great.
We had a great time at Alexander's, made many friends and can't wait to go back.
