My partner and I stayed at Alexanders in February for the first time and had a wonderful trip. The best and the worst thing about this property is the same - it is far from Duval Street. This great as you are away from the drunken tourists and cruise ship hoards who have done so much to ruin Key West recently, but it is also a bit of a walk to most dining and activities.
The accommodations and grounds are beautiful and we had one of the most relaxing trips we have taken in while. The characteristic that we liked best was that most of the other guests were also couples and we had a nice time just hanging around and relaxing without the "meat market" atmosphere that pervades some of the other gay guest houses on the island.
We stayed in the smallest room on the top of the house - great for access to the sun-deck but be warned - the toilet has a very low ceiling and is not very private from the room. The whole place was spotlessly clean though. The next stay we will probably get a larger room in the main part of the house.
The staff were wonderful and very helpful in arranging activities and dinner reservations. Happy hour by the pool is very pleasant with free drinks (up to a certain time) and the breakfast is simple but fresh.
