“Great value and comfortable place in Old Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

My husband and I stayed at Alexander Palms for a week as we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Key West. We searched reviews on every hotel, b and b, and "Vacation rental by owner" before choosing our hotel. We were very happy with our decision. We had a one-bedroom suite that had a king bed, its own covered front porch, and a small but 'full' kitchen (large fridge with freezer, 4 burner electric stove and oven, some cookware, dishes, and silverware). The shower was good, with a rain shower head and great water pressure and no lack of hot water. We found the room to be very clean, and it had everything we needed. Cleaning service was great all week, and when we left a note to say that a bulb had burned out in the kitchen, it was replaced by the time we returned that afternoon.

The grounds were very relaxing and well kept. We made good use of the pool and the gas grill. There are pool towels there for use - use them and then drop them into the laundry bucket when you are done. The lights around the palm trees were very charming at night!

When we checked in, Johnna was very welcoming and gave us all the info we needed to settle in and find our way around town. She also arranged for our bicycle rental for the week (Eaton St bikes delivers and picks up.) During the week she was available to answer questions and to ask for feedback about places we had visited.

The only negative thing about our stay was the noise from other rooms, which is not something that the Alexander Palms can control without investing in major soundproofing. Our room had a door in the kitchen that provided the opportunity for an adjoining room to the unit next door. A few evenings we had neighbors there who were not good at using their 'indoor voices.' The best we could do was to crank up the window A/C units to use them as white noise, but we also wondered if our conversations or TV watching sounded as loud to them.

If you are looking for an all-inclusive resort with luxury everything, this is not the place for you. Then again, neither is Key West overall! Key West is a city. It is a tropical and small city, but none the less a working city with construction, traffic, trucks and planes, and most of all - people, people (and roosters?) everywhere. Anywhere you stay in the Old Town area will have some degree of outside noise and things going on at all hours. Unless you stay in the big complexes down near the airport, you will not escape that reality.

A note about the value of Alexander Palms - we looked up the prices at some of the neighboring hotels/motels after arriving. No one could compete in price; not even close, with the same location and apparently similar age/appearance of properties. When you factor in what we saved by having breakfast provided each morning, it was a really good deal.

If we return to Key West, I would not hesitate to stay at the Alexander Palms again!

Room Tip: We were in room #1 - it had the king bed and front porch. It also had the adjoining room 1A that co...

This adorable hotel is located just far enough away from the hustle and bustle that you can relax but close enough that you can walk to the trolley. The pool was wonderful and a great way to end our day after driving seven hours to get there. Carol in the office was great and offered dinner suggestions and things to do for fun! A great choice!

Just got home from another great visit to Key West. This was my second stay at Alexander Palms Court. This time Carol and Johnna made me feel just as welcome as the last trip. I reserved two rooms this time as I had friends traveling with us and the reservations were accurate, the rooms were clean and fresh thanks to Eva and Ursula and the pool was just right. You just can't go wrong here if you're looking for a quiet place, privacy, and Key West hospitality. I'll be back again !

We booked the Alexander Palms for an October trip after reading some of the reviews and we're not disappointed. The layout of the property makes it very secluded. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The pool was refreshing and we spent hours floating in it one morning all to ourselves. We stayed in a which had a full kitchen that was perfect for our needs. Only a few blocks from Duval street and if your looking to walk it is only 4 blocks to the Southernmost point. If your not up to walking a cab cost us $6. We will return!

I have nothing bad to say about Alexander Palms. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the pool area is wonderful - the pool is even salt water and stays nice and toasty. The rooms were adorable and come with a mini fridge. There is a grill available for all in the pool area hidden behind palm trees. Duval Street is only about 2 blocks away, the southernmost marker is only about a 5 minute walk, there is a couple of bike shops located within 5 minutes as well. If we should ever come back to Key West, this is where we would stay again.

We stayed here in July, while taking a 3-day break in the Keys. The hotel is in keeping with its surroundings, i.e it is fairly old, but cute as a button. The rooms (only 5 or 6, I think) surround the spotless pool, and there is off-road parking. The rooms are OK, with a full kitchen and of a reasonable size, but this is not a Marriot or Four seasons. Furniture and especially the A/c's are a little dated, the A/c's being noisy but effective.
We stayed with our Adult daughter, and the sofa bed was adequate as an extra bed, it was also in a seperate room, which was good.
Staff were friendly and helpful, basically had all we needed.
For the price, I would recommend it for short stays, it would also be ideal for a group of friends travelling together to occupy several of the rooms - great for parties around the pool!
