“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

We had room 2A I believe, in the back near the fence, which was okay since it was not in front of the pool and so probably quieter. Since there was no small children, it was quiet. Friendly staff and a very nice breakfast was served. The only negative was the soft mattress.
@Jackie G : south beach was yuccky, but there is a nice beach which is a walking distance from the hotel.

This is a cute little place with a pretty pool area. The rooms are clean, but a little on the old side. The bathroom in the studio rooms are so tiny I had to do my hair in the kitchen area. Also, the little patio out back is kind of useless. If you like any privacy at all, this isn't the place to stay. There is no room around the pool and people don't even move their chairs to let you walk by. The rooms are all around the pool, so if there are kids playing and screaming in the pool you can hear it in your room. The location is nice because it's not a real busy street and you can easily walk to Duval Street, it's only about a mile to the end of Duval. We stayed there thinking we could walk to the beach, but South Beach is a tiny beach surrounded by concrete walls that make you feel like you're in the sewer. There are a couple of decent beaches, but not within walking distance.

If there are any problems with children being around the pool at night and keeping people awake, we would like to hear about it immediately. We are a family friendly establishment, but also want to make sure that everyone is comfortable and happy while they are in town. Our bathrooms are small, I always let people know that when they ask. I have no idea why 1950's bathrooms were as tiny as they are, but it really is the case.

Key West isn't really known for it's beaches because the coral reef breaks most of the waves about a mile out which doesn't bring in the sand and the shells you often find along the Gulf Coast. I do enjoy a beach called Fort Zachary Taylor which is about a mile away. It is a state park that is very clean and well maintained. It even has parking, a concession stand, picnic tables, shade trees, restrooms, fresh water rinse and even a Fort to tour.

It's a nice small hotel with great location (it's calm, but with the entertainment around the corner which was perfect). Reception was friendly and helpfull. The rooms...a little disappointing. Rooms had a bit too much wear&tear so it started to look unclean and worn. The doors are all with a window, the shades needed renowal, so did the doors of the closet and the showercurtain. Breakfast was served at the pool and was good. To be honest, we had the feeling that they could do so much more with this place. It's small and cosy, but the rooms are in need of some refurbishment.

Good sized room+private garden for the price. The place was not luxurious by any means but had everything we could need or want for a relaxing time. Best part though was the helpful and friendly staff.

We booked a room at the Alexander Palms based on the good reviews, great location and reasonable (for Key West) prices. I have never posted a review before but felt compelled to set the record straight. You get what you pay for...yes the location is great, but this hotel is seriously in need of upgrades even for a budget hotel. The first thing you notice in the room is the grime embedded in the white floor tile. Seriously in need of steam cleaning, or better yet, replacement. Kitchen and bathroom are tiny with "vintage" tile, stained sink, peeling grout and ancient appliances. The double bed is squeezed in a narrow space, no room for bedside tables. Decor is bizarre, lime green walls with mismatched artwork, you get the picture. To make matters worse, the power went off in the middle of the night and we spent several hours in pitch blackness wondering when the air conditioning would go back on (about 3 hours). In all fairness, not their fault, but it added to the unpleasant experience. The pool is ok and the office staff very efficient and friendly.

I am very sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. I feel that the adjective "seedy" is a little harsh for my place. We are definitely a budget hotel. We are also in the process of remodeling many of our rooms. By the looks of this review, I believe you might have needed a different property. At any time you are welcome to bring up any issues with the front desk, and my staff would have done everything in their power to make it right, including refunding the remainder of your stay and putting you in touch with people who can help you find something a bit more to your liking.
The kitchens and bathrooms are not giant, but I feel the kitchens do add a bit more value to our property. Even if just for heating up leftovers by the pool the day after a big night. We watch all of our reviews and strive to make changes to better serve our guests. Thank you for the criticism.
As for the power in Key West; that's just part of being on the island. A sailboat hits a tie line and we all go down for a bit. I don't remember a 3 hour outage recently, but it does go out often for 30 minutes or less.

Wife and I stayed here 3 nights and made reservations before we left for our fall trip. Our room was clean, although a bite dated. The office help was very helpful and pleasant, especially Ms Sandy. We liked the layout of the motel, kinda like "in the round", with the pool in the courtyard, very secluded and private from the street view. There is a main gate that is locked after hours but all the guest are given a key to the gate with their room key so that you can come and go as you please. Limited on site free parking, but there is also free street parking nearby. And there are bus stops a block away. From here to Mallory Square is only a pleasurable mile walk. And I did it several times wearing my boot for tendonitis.

AlexanderPalms Court has become our favorite hideaway when we go to Key West.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side have more street noise, but it was summer. It did die down after 10pm.

This is a wonderful place for a casual getaway to Key West. Nothing fancy, just a clean, inexpensive place with a fantastic staff. The pool is clean and the gardens in great shape and a beautiful place to relax during the heat of the day although I was not too crazy about the country music. The music was more tropical as the afternoon progressed.

This place is located right near the southernmost point and about a mile walk or bicycle ride to the far end of Duval Street. Not far from entertainment, but far enough to be quiet.

If Landon recommends a restaurant, it is incredible! The office staff was able to connect us to entertainment and transportation that exceeded our expectations.

This is traditional Key West in both character and location and a place where I will return!
