“Great as usual!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2009

Once again, this property was stylish and user friendly. The room was somewhat spotless and the cleaning crew....the 2 russian guys were very good and always friendly. All of the staff are friendly and take interest into the customers. Dawson was great and even held happy hour over a bit longer a few nights. The only negative was the heat of the pool. With 90+ heat and the humidity making it feel like 100+, the pool felt more like 98! They said the heat was not on but it never really cooled down. Parking became a problem too. If you are flying to KW, don't rent a car. There are spots around, but they can be hard to find. Other than that, it is still a great hotel and I look forward to next year!

My partner and I had the time of our lives. The resort is clean and well maintained. The staff was sweet and informative. The room was very clean and housekeeping was done daily. Breakfast was great and happy hour is always fun. We meet awesome people who we will be keeping in contact with. We are all planning on coming back next year. We recommend this resort to anyone who wants to meet people and have a very relaxing and fun filled vacation.

This was our first trip (but definately not last trip to Key West despite the long distance from Europe) and it was a wonderful start of our holiday. Not only the staff but also the rest of the guests made it a very good experience for the first time at an all-male-gay-resort. Due to the fact that it is a smaller resort, you quickly get to know the other guests. We learned that many guests were returning to this resort year after year.

We were in room #12 which is very big but facing the street. I would have preferred to have a safe in the room but that was about the only thing to comment on the room.

Breakfast has been commented by other reviewers but we found it very good and also big for american standards. It is included in the rate as well many servings of "today's drink" during happy hour around the pool.

On the website the pool may not look so big but unless you want to do laps it is good for what you will use it for as well as the outdoor jacuzzi. We used it very night after dinner relaxing while looking at the stars in the sky. That will remain as one of the best memories from this stay.

The location is in a quiet area but yet still within easy walking distance from everything in Key West so you do not need a car during your stay here, but it can be parked outside on the street.

Oh, by the way, all the educational TV for free as well as the clothing optional pool area, plenty supply of towels etc is great as well.

I've stayed at many gay quest houses. Most recently Villa Venice, Cabanas, Liberty Suites and Blue Moon. Equator is one of my fav's. Had a super fun time! The staff and owner really work hard at making you feel welcome. Pool and hot tube are perfectly sized and always looked clean. Breakfast, happy hour and unlimited porn channels are much appreciated.
Areas of improvment: Upon check in, the floor in my room desperately need to be cleaned. I don't believe it ever was durring my stay? Throw out the bed in room #11, the springs are ready to free themselves...

May partner and I have traveled to Key West for a week in January for the past 7 years and we have now stayed at the Equator Resort the past 4 years.

We have found the Equator to be one of the best all-gay resorts in Key West. Unfortunately there are fewer and fewer of them in the once very gay Key West - but 'the times they are a changing'.

Yes the grounds are not perfectly groomed - but the pool is heated and is a great way to spend some time as is the hot-tub. While it is not one of the biggest or 'friendliest' hot tubs in Key West - it suits our needs.

The rooms are good but not great - we have a favorite room - but we'll keep that a secret so as we always get 'our' room. The shower in the bathroom has been remodeled but they do need to start working on the other aspects of the bathroom. Toiletries are OK and we were given fresh item daily.

We have found that the Equator quests do tend to be on the somewhat older bracket - 40s to 50s - which we prefer to the twinkie crowd.

if you're looking for an all-gay home-away-from-home in Key West - try the Equator Resort. We've already made our January 2010 reservation!

Great place for the slightly more mature to mature crowd (35+). We LOVED not having families or kids around - that was a vacation in itself! Other guests seemed friendly and genuinely interested in making friends. Although the HEATED pool was open all night people were very respectful about noise levels. The Jacuzzi felt wonderful at night and there was nothing in appropriate going on.

Others commented on lack of breakfast food. You will do fine as long as you get down there by 9:30am. If later consider the store across the street. We had great eggs, yogurts, hot pancakes, muffins, coffee.

Very friendly at cocktail hour. Easy way to mingle with fellow guests and even those alone can find others to connect with for dinner or nightlife.

Some comments were made about staff being rude or unfriendly. True they are not overflowing with love but no one was ever rude in any fashion. I suspect they are busy and some may mistake that for rude but when spoken to they are attentive, polite and friendly.

Rooms are rather spacious and well maintained. Our friends had a standard and it was roomy. We had a loft which had a seperate sitting room w/TV room #33 .

Bike rental was available from hotel staff and a low cost. Don’t use a car in Key West - you will be sorry you did.

Great place and we would return if back in Key West!

This resort is located in a great part of town within walking distance to all the major attractions in Key West. The pool and jacuzzi are nice and maintained well. Most staff members are nice. We did enjoy the happy hours. Although the grounds are landscaped heavily, it is evident that they are not maintained by professionals. Plants, shrubs and trees need some attention by someone that knows what they are doing. The rooms look quite tired and are not always very clean. For instance, my nightstand had a big stain on it that was quite unsightly. The bathroom showed signs of rusting and mildew. Upgrade those toiletries! We went out to buy our own soap because the soap was so cheap. It wasn't replaced every day either! At the price you pay for a room, the resort is not worth it. The management should either lower their prices or deliver the appropriate quality one would expect in that price range. We are unlikely to return.
