“Exactly what we were looking for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Charming, friendly, clean, welcoming.... The room was just fine (#108) and the breakfast was excellent with hot and cold items available from 8 - 10:30. The multi-grain wheat and raisin breads made fantastic toast, scrambled eggs were refreshed often, and the aroma of bacon was enough to kick-start any appetite to start the day.

Two pools and a jacuzzi, all heated. A location just three minutes from the central part of Duval makes it handy enough for convenience while being far enough for some real peace and quiet.

We are delighted to hear that Ambrosia Key West is exactly what you were looking for! As our guest you stayed in our corner second floor pool room equipped with French doors that lead to the semi-private balcony that overlooks our tropical courtyard. I am sure you enjoyed sitting on your balcony taking in the views of our lap pool and dip pool. Thank you for the comments regarding our breakfast, featuring eggs, bacon, biscuits, sausage and gravy, cereals, granola, muffins, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels, artisan breads, to name a few! The cinnamon raisin bread delivered fresh daily is our favorite. Again thank you for your kind words! Until next time….Tim and the Ambrosia Family

I've been coming to Key West for 30 years and have stayed all over the island. Ambrosia is one of the best- great service, great atmosphere, relaxing rooms. We stayed in the Jungle Room with our dog, Winston. Had a fabulous time-- it was quiet and lovely. The shower in the Jungle Room is amazing. Jenny was fantastic checking us in- went above and beyond. Parking was not really a problem. Mostly you park your car and can walk anywhere in Old Town. Very central location. Delicious breakfast, too. I wish I was back there now!

Thank you for your recent review. We are delighted that you had a fabulous time at our quiet and lovely inn. As our guest you stayed in our popular Jungle Room. I am sure you enjoyed the tropical motif, the Jungle Room features Dade County pine floors, walls, and vaulted ceilings. You are correct, the Jungle Room is relaxing, the perfect getaway. The best way to get around town is by bike or foot! We wish you were back here too! What are you waiting for? Give Jenny a call and book your next getaway to paradise! Until next time…Best Regards, Tim and the Ambrosia Family

I have been going to Key West for years and always stayed at the La Concha or Hyatt until I found Ambrosia. It is located off Duval Street but is close to everything, once you get there you don't need a car, so if you fly in to Key West you just take cab to Ambrosia, and you could walk to everything. The place has three pools, we had one just few steps from our door. The place serves a good breakfast which is really nice knowing you don't have to rush out to eat somewhere in morning. The grounds are well kept and the tropical foilage is great, really gives you feel of a tropical location , unlike the larger Hotels. Key West has a lot to do and has some of the best bars and restaurants in the country. I like Alonzo's happy hour, you will too if you like fresh seafood, and enjoy the Green Parrot bar which have live bands with no cover. I would recommend renting a bike, take a wave runner around island, and go on a snorkling trip. Just a great place to stay. Staff is great!

Dear Marcus, Thank you for taking time to review us! After visiting Conch Republic for years, we are thrilled that you found Ambrosia Key West. As a our guest, you stayed in our private two story town home Zeke’s Retreat which is located at the rear of our compound equipped with a balcony, full kitchen, living room, and a second floor master bedroom. Our gardener Jim tends to our grounds daily, it his tropical masterpiece! He loves his profession and it shows!! He was flattered to hear of your praises. Marcus, I am sure you enjoyed relaxing on Zeke’s private gated patio which is just steps away from the dip pool. I agree with you 100% Alonzo’s is fantastic! The bands start at 10:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, if this is too late, be sure to stop at the Green Parrot on Friday at 5:30 pm for sound check! Until next time…Best Regards Tim and the Ambrosia Family

The location of the guest house is on Fleming Street which is a nice street. The place is conveniently located near Faustos, a grocery store.
The rooms, however, are dingy and somewhat dilapidated. The furniture consists of very large old (not antique) mismatched pieces where drawer handles are missing and others stick. The TV cabinet doors are hard to open. The large furniture pieces are potentially dangerous obstacles in already smallish rooms.

The wooden floors creak and groan whenever someone walks across them in the room or in any of the adjoining rooms. The walls are thin and you can readily hear your neighbors noises day and night.

The floor rugs look like they have never been cleaned. The sofa sleeper is lumpy and uncomfortable and you have to make it up yourself each day. There are no spare light bulbs to replace those that have burnt out in the lamps at night.

The maid service _ Eastern European girls - provide minimal room cleaning - they make up the regular beds; put out clean towels and empty the trash. There is no floor mopping or sweeping. Yet, tip envelopes and jars are conspicuouly placed.

The pool area is well maintained. The breakfast provided is adequate except no low fat milk is given and no bananas which most people like. The choice of small box cereals consists of fruit loops and bran. The breakfast is set out in a small gazebo adjacent to the pool and when there are more than three people within, the space becomes very congested. In addition smoking is permitted around the pool and breakfast area which is annoying while you are eating.

The place iteself is diffcult to navigate especially in the annex across the street. There are narrow passageways to negotiate and lots of steep steps to haul your baggage without help.

The cost is high for this type of accommodaton. If you like your comforts and cleanliness, then this leaves a lot to be desired.

Dear Margie Thank you for your review and thanks for some of the flattering things you said about us.

Yes, you are correct we are nestled in a quiet old town neighborhood steps away from all of the Key West must see attractions. As our guest, you stayed in our Historic Ambrosia House. This historic home houses 8 of our most popular suites, most with Dade County pine floors and vaulted ceilings, oversized windows and wrap around porches. This home dates back to the late 1890’s and was the boyhood home of our current mayor. Sure, the floors creak but that is one of the things that most people who stay with us really love. I am sure you will see comments from hundreds of previous reviews that attest to this as well as Ambrosia being eclectic, original and unique. Besides our many, many positive reviews, twice a year we receive a thorough lodging inspection from the State of Florida. With that said, we humbly apologize that you did not enjoy our tropical décor and ambiance that our inn boasts.

Thank you also for the positive feedback regarding the areas around our 3 pools. All pools are surrounded by lush tropical gardens and our staff takes pride in its maintenance. However, you did forget to mention a few menu items which we assume pleased you: our hot complimentary breakfast buffet is served poolside daily and consists of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and gravy, biscuits, muffins, fresh fruit, granola, a variety of cereals, artisan breads, bagels, juices, and coffee. Water, iced tea, snacks and complimentary sun block are set out by the pools every day for the enjoyment of our guests. Upon arrival you must have enjoyed a complimentary beverage of your choice that we offer to all arriving guests.

When making a reservation, Tina, Marilyn, Lexi, and Jenny work hard to match each guest with the right accommodation. Ambrosia Key West not only has 8 themed suites in our Ambrosia House, we also have 12 other options in our compound at Ambrosia Too. We have pool rooms, pool suites, three townhomes, and a 2 bedroom cottage. Though we do not leave spare light bulbs in our guest rooms, our staff is available daily until 8:00 pm, and after hours, a manager is available just a phone call away. All guests receive this information during their introductory tour of our property at registration. It would be our pleasure to change a light bulb!

On one last matter Margie, again, you are correct…….we do have guest room attendants who are from overseas. Here at Ambrosia Key West, we feel our staff is world class! They are very proud, educated, multi-lingual, hard-working individuals who love their profession…..and Ambrosia! We here in Key West feel that we are fortunate to have such honest, non-judgmental individuals working on our fair island.

Again, Margie, sorry to hear that you felt your stay was not enjoyable and we hope that you will give us another chance the next time you are in Key West. Best Regards, Tim and the Ambrosia Family.

Spent 4 nights at Ambrosia Hotel around March 1st. Stayed in the Jungle Room which is located near the back edge of property across the street from the office. It is much more private in this location. You have a small pool and a deck with lounge chairs and umbrella table just outside your door. Two other small pools are located back across the street where most of the rooms are located. Room was very nice, king bed, small couch, and a great, great shower!! Breakfast is better and more filling than that served at many B & Bs. The location is excellent; you are near Duval Street (about 2 blocks), the marina, and many bars and restaurants, but it is very quiet. A grocery is also located 1 block away. Parking is an issue, however. Staff will arrange a spot for you when you first arrive, but if you move your car you may have difficulty finding a parking place close by. We were parked on the street just in front of our room and never moved the car during our stay, so we had no problems. Staff was very friendly and competent. Although we had been to Key West on several occasions, stayed at other B & Bs in the area, and generally knew our way around town, we asked staff for recommendations and asked them to make reservations for sailing and for dining. Also, they will provide you with a glass of wine upon arrival. A great little restaurant is nearby ... Sarabeth's ... don't miss it.

Room Tip: Jungle Room is quiet and private. Others are nearer the larger pools and breakfast area.

Thank you for your review! Jungle Room is a jem; it is located at the rear of our historic Ambrosia House. I am sure you enjoyed some r&r on the large veranda featuring tiki furniture surrounded by lush greenery and being only two steps away from the Jacuzzi. We are nestled in a great old town location steps away from the fun on Duval and a few blocks from the historic seaport. Parking in Old Town is a challenge for locals and visitors alike, however, upon check-in; we will assist you with a free parking space. Thank you for your comments regarding our hot breakfast served daily from 8:30 am – 10:30 am featuring eggs, bacon, biscuits, sausage and gravy, artisan breads, bagels, cereals, muffins to name a few. Marilyn, Tina, Lexi, and Jenny can’t wait to greet you on your next trip! Best Regards, Tim and the Ambrosia Family

I have stayed at multiple places in Key West...regular hotels, other inns, but nothing is better (although it is the most costly too). Perfect location, friendly staff. I found the place because I wanted to bring my golden retriever and Ambrosia is pet-friendly! Parking is a challenge, and the pool is not heated....otherwise GREAT!

We are delighted that you had a relaxing stay at Ambrosia. We are located in the heart of Old Town, just a block and a half away from Duval. Close to all of the action, but far enough to enjoy a peaceful day lounging in our courtyard catching some sun. Yes, we welcome pets, they are part of the family, and they deserve a vacation in paradise too!! Those who choose to drive to KW, we will help each guest find a parking space, and the best advice is to leave the car parked. Getting around town....biking or walking is the easiest. During your stay we were experiencing a cold front with a high near 70; however, you have three swimming options to choose from: the dip pool is 85 degrees; the lap pool is 80 degrees, and the Jacuzzi is 99 degrees. Until next time…Best Regards Tim and the Ambrosia Family

One of Key West's best. Friendly , clean, and great breakfasts. Our first choice for a number of trips, and we stayed at others before finding this great spot. Located within walking distance of all the great spots. Don't forget to go to Blue Heaven!

Room Tip: No bad rooms. Check the pictures for specifics that meet your needs.

Hello Tim and Sharon! Thank you for the terrific review!!! As our guests you stayed in our private Ambrosia Suite that is located in our historic Ambrosia House. This two-room suite features a large living room with a queen sleeper sofa and a private bedroom. Walking the grounds, I saw you and Sharon with your friends Bill & Liz (who occupied the Captain’s Quarters) daily sitting on the front veranda wasting the day away enjoying each other’s company. What a hoot! I agree with your comment regarding Blue Heaven. Their lobster benny accompanied by a Bloody Mary is delicious! It was a pleasure to be your host while you were in KW. We hope to see you on your next trip. Best Regards, Tim and the Ambrosia Family
