“Fun place to stay in Key West”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

A polka dot door, turtle pen, parrots, colorful hammocks everywhere, sand, waterfront view, jet ski rentals, pool, on site restaurant, bar and night films poolside. Very fun environment. Room was nicely decorated and comfortable. Loved the yellow striped beach towels put out for our use. Needs WiFi in room, microwave and coffee pot - I like to have some coffee before I climb out of my pj's and go to the restaurant for breakfast. Our bathroom sprang a leak - old plumbing. Even so, I'd stay here again and hope to get a chance to in the future.

Room Tip: Like staying on the first floor with patio doors to the sand and hammock area.

“Unique and price worthy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

The whole color scheme of this place gave us a feeling that we have finally started our holiday. The restaurant had a delicious menu. Try the seared ahi salad. The lunch time servers (Nicole, Tom and short hair bartender lady ) on the day we arrived were efficient, friendly and obliging. There was this great deal with the Ibis bay margarita with a $5 refill. Fabulous! The rooms were basic. I wish it had a table and some chairs in it. We had the courtyard room, even though we were across from the restaurant and the pool it was still quiet and relaxing. The manager even came round to chat with us. The receptionists could have been more professional and the evening staff seemed really stressed. We had young kids whom enjoyed the entertaining parrots and tortoises. Having hammocks by the pool was so relaxing. The oceanfront of the resort was so so but they kept the little beach clean and there were comfortable deck chairs and hammocks once again to enjoy the breeze. We would come back even though we felt that the evening staff wasn't entirely child friendly cos it was a unique experience and it matched what we thought that key west was about.

I am glad you and your kids had a good time with all the animals. Our baby macaw parrot outside the lobby is especially fun for kids because he loves to dance and do silly acrobatics. A born entertainer. Thank you for choosing and reviewing to Ibis Bay.

“Clean but lacked a lot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

To be called a resort, this lacked a lot. The AC didn't keep the room cool. We were told we had a bay view, but it was a parking lot view. It smelled musty and like mildew. The furniture left a lot to be desired. The beds included mattress set and frame, nothing else, and were very uncomfortable. The chair was falling apart. There weren't any windows.
The walls were paper thin with a half inch gap under the door leading outside and to the adjoining room. On top of that, the walls were so paper thin it sounded like the neighbors were in the room with you. The outside is deceiving to what the inside is like. It was clean but that's all it had going for it. For the price we paid, it should have had much more. We won't be back.

We have many different room types. Waterfront, beachfront, garden rooms, rooms with waterfalls, with hammocks etc. They were all built in 1956 using thick coral rock except the upper 500 extension which is a 1970s second floor wood building. Your Upper 500 room is a great bargain for Key West because it is smaller and overlooks a parking area. If you just want to place to put your head at night they are a good choice but our other rooms offer a lot more. We are waiting for a delivery of new tables and chairs that are arriving January 30th.

“Cozy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

You must have a car because the fun stuff is a 10 minute drive away. However, the room was decorated in a very nice style with Cuban art- comfy bed and nice shower. the maid didn't clean until 3:30 pm- so plan accordingly. We spent time in the hammocks near the pool. The restaurant- Stone Crab- is okay, but beware that some of the items on the menu may not actually be available (including key lime pie). Despite those some little complaints, I still recommend it- and, there's a Starbucks across the street.

Thank you for recommending Ibis Bay. Our room decorations come from many local artists and the Cuban posters are vintage from the 1940s. It is odd that The Stoned Crab restaurant didn't have Key Lime pie when you were here. It is always good. The restaurant is very popular so maybe they were out the one day you asked for it. Thanks again, please come back and see us soon.

“Exceeded our expectations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Ibis Bay is a unique resort with friendly, helpful staff - especially Claudine and Nikki. Our room was clean comfy, with a great view of the water. We would be thrilled to stay there again. The restaurant was convenient too - with great food! Nice pool. Fun 'dive in' movies.

Room Tip: The waterfront rooms are lovely for the view. The resort has a real Key West feel and great staff w...

It is so great to hear we exceeded your expectations. American Airlines just exceeded our expectations too. In their January in-flight magazine they recommend Ibis Bay Beach Resort, Sunset Key Cottages and The Waldorf Asoria's Casa Marina as THE coolest places to stay in Key West. Wow!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Ibis Bay is exactly the resort you dream of when you think of Key West. It's a friendly, quirky and original 1950s motel that has been remodeled as a modern beach resort. The landscaped sand beach leads right up to the beachfront guest rooms. The staff are very friendly Key West locals who love the island. There are only 8 hotels on the beach in Key West. Ibis Bay is the most affordable and the least stuffy. We offer family attractions such as the poolside Thursday night “Dive-In” movie on a 20ft screen, huge tortoises, lots of large colorful parrots, local iguana lizards and our namesake, the very pretty ibis birds. In the mood for some fun? Ask our Fun Desk concierge about our jet ski, scooter and electric car rentals on site plus paddle board, kayaks and kiteboard rentals on the beach. There's always something to do. Or if you are in the mood to do nothing, just chill out in one of 80 hammocks around the pool and on the beach overlooking the bay. ... more   less
