My husband and I stayed at Angelina for three nights, August 16 - 19,
2007. We visit Key West as often as we can and this trip was planned on a whim with just a few days' notice. I contacted the guesthouse by
e-mail to ask about availability -- we were looking for an inexpensive room with a private bath. I received a prompt reply back from Janet stating they had only one room available for our requested
dates, so we snapped it up. The price was right -- $119 per night -- and it was exactly what we were looking for. I called Janet to make the reservation and she followed up with a very informative confirmation e-mail with details such as room description, price, parking, etc.
We drove to Key West from our home in Orlando and arrived at Angelina
shortly after noon. Stephanie checked us in and showed us where to park the car right across from the guesthouse. It was nice to learn that our room was ready even that early, so after Stephanie took us to our room to drop off our luggage, she took us on a tour of Angelina.
All the rooms at Angelina (a former bordello) are named with female names on the doors. Our room was Susie and was located at the end of the hallway on the second floor. We loved the room location -- right next to the door that leads to the upstairs deck which wraps around the building. Susie is decorated nicely and has a king size bed, a large bathroom and a window that looks out over the balcony. It was a nice quiet location and we didn't ever hear any excessive noise from other guests when we were in our room. There was a free-standing
air conditioning unit in our room because Stephanie said there had been some problems keeping the rooms cool enough this summer. That unit did a good job of keeping the room cool, so we had no issues there at all.
Also on the second floor, just down the hall from us was a room that had a microwave and refrigerator -- a nice touch. Our room, and every
other area of the guesthouse that we saw, was kept immaculately clean
throughout our visit.
There are no phones or TVs in the rooms at Angelina, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that we were able to get a wireless internet connection from our room and Stephanie gave us a password so we could do that. My husband had his laptop with him so he could check his work e-mails, but we didn't know if he'd be able to log on from the guesthouse.
Each morning a continental breakfast is served out back by the pool area. Some of the items available are the famous homemade cinnamon rolls, English muffins, fruit, juice and coffee. There is a Coke machine in the same area, which was a nice feature.
Angelina's pool area is really pretty with a brick deck and a little waterfall in the pool. It's definitely one of the nicest pools I've seen at a guesthouse in Key West.
The Angelina is located on Angela and Thomas and is within easy walking distance of just about everywhere we wanted to go in old town. We felt comfortable walking to and from the guesthouse at any time of the day or night.
We enjoyed our stay at the Angelina and will be happy to stay there again during future trips to Key West. Because of the location, amenities and low price, the Angelina is definitely one of the best values in Key West.
