“good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

I have very mixed feelings about La Mer. It is a great location for Key West, helpful, welcoming staff, nice breakfast on the patio, beautiful, clean, room. But...our room had a funky smell. It seemed to be coming from the AC unit. We turned off the AC, turned on the ceiling fans, and opened the windows. The room faced the street and so was noisy. They were full and said there were no more rooms. So if you can afford the ocean view room at the Southernmost Resort, (next door, same company), that would be the best bet.

This is our 2nd stay at the La Mer House. This year we opted for a garden view to help reduce costs of the room. We were there during fantasy fest week. The accommodations are priced very high ~ but I absolutely love the location and the accommodations. They have 3 pools associated with the properties (La Mer, Dewey, and Southernmost). Each pool fits a certain need - watch a football game, have peace and quiet or have people around you who are enjoying some beverages. The La Mer is a beautiful bed and breakfast. We opted for this vs the hotel room and are glad that we did. They give you that extra special attention. They do have turn down service in the evening (the beds are unbelieveably comfortable - so, so comfy) and breakfast is served from 8:30-10:30am each morning - it offers a variety of foods. The fruits are really fresh, they usually have a quiche (sp????) in the morning - not one of my favorites but I was good with the different breads, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, pastries, etc. The fresh brewed coffee was awesome ~ very strong! They also had tea time in the afternoon's. This was really nice - it offered hot and cold tea's and pastries. Helped you get through until your evening dinner.

The location is awesome - you are not directly in the middle of duval street but you are at the end of the street and within walking distance of ALL the activities. We opted not to rent bikes this year and walked everywhere. If you do decide to get back to the hotel sooner rather than later - they have taxi's and pedi-bikes that you can take.

They do have a spa there. I did not choose to use this option - but it did look really nice.

When we return again ~ we would most likely stay here or give the Southernmost Hotel rooms (directly on the water a try). They do have a public beach area right by the hotel - for hotel guests, the lounge chairs were free (nice added perk). If you wanted an umbrella, it was $10 for the day (reasonable). It is a topless beach, so if you are from the US, it is not the norm for us. The have a restaurant right on the beach where we enjoyed some lunch ~ reasonably priced also.

You have to stay there to experience the best ~ we love this place!

Stayed here for 3 nights in late September. We had originally booked into the Southenmost Hotel but were upgraded on arrival due to the renovation work going on there. The guy on reception was lovely and gave us so much information about the hotels and facilities available.

The room was an decent size and had a wonderful balcony which had a side view of the ocean. The bathroom was spotless and the shower had good pressure. Toiletries were good and we loved having an Ipod dock in the room, the bed was incredibly comfortable and there were always lots of towels available.

Breakfast was great with unlimited juice, coffee and fresh fruit. Afternoon tea was a nice touch with lovely biscotti.

Loved the location – being slightly further away gave us a bit of exercise (and retail therapy) walking up and down Duval Street.

We used the main pool several times and loved the fact it was open in the evening, food and drink at the café was good and great value during happy hour. We also had great fun with Boomer at both wine school and Snorkel school.

All in all a great stay, and was very touched to receive a thank you card the week after we got home.

We had a fantastic stay at Dewey House and would highly recommend to others. Dewey House is the smaller of the three properties that make up the Sothernmost collection and, in our opinion, the very best. From the moment we checked in we were asked to consider this as our house and made to feel really welcome - special mention to Sam who provided a great first impression of the Hotel and made some great suggestions for dining out.

Guests staying in Dewey House also benefit from a wonderful continental breakfast (thanks for the waffles - Randall) and also afternoon tea which was a real treat. As guests, you can use any of the three pools within the overall resort and our favourite was the tranquility pool which was an oasis of calm away from the hustle of Key West. The Hotel isn't the cheapest in Key West, but when you factor in free parking, excellent on-site gym facilities and free wi-fi it soon becomes excellent value.

The quality of the bedrooms (we stayed in 412 and can highly recommend) was excellent and the whole hotel is maintained impeccably.

For us, the location of the hotel (at the far end of Duval Street) was perfect. Within easy walking distance of all the attractions but far enough away to be able to completely relax and unwind. A special mention should also go to the on-site Beach Bar which was a great place to dine. Good food, excellent beers on tap and reasonable prices.

Dewey House really was an outstanding place to unwind, relax and enjoy the Key West experience. Superb!

We stayed her for 4 nights and wish that it could have been longer. The personal attention they provide every guest is outstanding, the rooms are beautiful and maintained impeccably. Every person on staff that we dealt with was outstanding. The hotel does not add on those irksome charges for parking, Internet or "resort fees" they are all included in the room cost. There are 3 different pools available so you can pick which ever suits your mood. The La Mer and Dewey House include a continental breakfast which is actually much more and an afternoon tea which is a very pleasant and civilized treat.
But most of all it was the staff that made this such a great stay.

We were so excited for this trip- we have 3 year old twin boys and I have a job where I am traveling all the time, so the day before our trip to key west (we had never been there) I presented her w a ring box present...which had a key lime in it! Very romantic, and high hopes. Our last trip had been to Belize in 2000!

I had spent many hours researching, and decided on la mer and Dewey house. I couldn't quite swing the price of the room on the beach, so I opted for a room that was a more affordable garden room.

When we got to the hotel, I asked about an upgrade bc the place wasn't full. The front desk person wrote out on a piece of paper upgraded rooms and the additional prices associated. The option we chose was a beautiful waterfront room and we were told that it would be an addl $100 a night- worth it for the view.

The room was nice, but there happened to be a wedding on the beach that went well into the night and kept us up, and then they broke the tents down quite early the next morning, with much noise.

It's a public beach, so there is nothing the hotel could have done about that I guess, but I'm not sure I would have spent the extra money if I had known about the wedding.

The biggest problem was that when we went to check out, the piece of paper the front desk guy had worked our upgraded and discounted rate on had mysteriously disappeared....so the final bill was WELL ABOVE the rate we were promised. It was passed off as "taxes"- which are high but didn't make up the difference.

Beautiful place to stay- but I was taken advantage of. Shame on me for being so trusting.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our property. I would like to apologize for any confusion experienced during your check out process and must assure you it is never our resorts policy to cheat or take advantage of our guests. The cornerstone of our success lies in our commitment to Exceptional Customer Service and we strive for this each and every day. I was able to research this unfortunate misunderstanding and can assure you, the gentleman who assisted you with the discounted rate did so using a discount system which is built into our hotels operating system and once presented, the rate did not change. Again, I sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding this event may have caused. Our guests’ satisfaction is our absolute priority. Please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of any further assistance to you.

I cannot praise this hotel enough it lived up to every expectation and was a beautiful place to spend a lazy sun drenched few days with golden sand on the door step. You step out of the back of hotel directly onto the beach but if you prefer it you can use the pool only yards away and though it belongs to the hotel next door the more exclusive “La Mer Hotel & Dewey House” is the luxury part of the Southernmost hotel and it shows in the way in which you are met and greeted before being shown to quite spectacular rooms, large and airy with a touch of class, brilliant place, highly recommend it.

Room Tip: In Le Mer there are only a few rooms but one at the back have rooms overlooking the beach which are...
