We are reluctant to divulge our Key West Treasure, however, we feel in good conscience that we must share our experience with our fellow romantic travelers, The Gardens Hotel, Key West.

Where to begin...let's see...upon our arrival Erica greets us with a champagne welcome, while sending our luggage to our room. Being fluent in the Key West Lifestyle, Erica lends her expertise in recommending where to dine, to find good music, and a slice of moonlight! Thank-you, Erica.

For an earful of anecdotes and genuine belly laughs, thank-you, Barbara...you're a hoot!

Sully and Angel, thank-you for a fresh fruit beautiful breakfast and impeccable housekeeping.

Alicia...thanks for keeping our ride charged! You "hooked us up."

Last, but not least, Kate...your reputation is reflected by your staff, who have been with you for years. This is why we will continue to visit The Gardens Hotel for years to come.

P.S. We hope The Gardens doesn't get too big for its britches that we can't get "our" room. We are looking forward to our next visit. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.

Me and spouse ran into this place on fluke. Saw it from the road as we were driving, I went in and spoke to a very welcoming receptionist. After that everything was history. This is the perfect getaway hotel I have ever been. Highly recommended to couples wanting to get away in seclusion, but a walk away from the main strip. Very quiet, very friendly and very comforting. I give this place 10 out 5 stars...

anticipated vacation at the Gardens Hotel in Key West and we were impressed from the moment we stepped foot onto the property. It is tough to put into words how beautiful the property is. The meticulously maintained "conch style" buildings, the lush gardens, the birds, the orchids, and the beautiful outdoor pool & bar made for a lasting first impression. As a matter of fact, HGTV had sent a crew during our visit to film the Gardens Hotel for an upcoming special segment on their network. I travel extensively for a living, and can absolutely say that this place does not have the typical "hotel feel" to it. We found it extremely relaxing to congregate at the pool with many of the other guests in the late afternoon to relax, beat the heat, and share some local history with Billy the Bartender. Honestly, the location, the accommodations, and the grounds were fantastic, but Cindy, Nancy, Alicia and Owner Kate truly helped make our overall stay both a positive and memorable experience. We will definitely be back.

Tried to book a room for Sept. I've stayed in the same room two years in a row. The last time I was mixed because the quality had definitely gon down. I was willing to give it another try. Before I could get my requst out the woman answering the phone rudely cut me off and said "no requests". This is for Sept. The SLOWEST month for Key West. Nice! So long Gardens Hotel.

Management response from keysk8e, owner

I am completely shocked by this critique. At the Gardens Hotel, we Always strive to provide the best service, the highest amenities, and the most luxurious rooms in Key West. To state we have “gone downhill” is really surprising as we have received the “best hidden gem” award from Tripadvisor for the last three years, are in the July 2009 issue of Travel and Leisure magazine as one of their top 23 favorite seaside inns, and have just had a shoot (one week ago) with HGTV on our beautiful gardens which is to air in Feb of 2010.

We are committed to not only provide the best guest experience, but to continually maintaining and updating our rooms and grounds. In the last year we have updated all of our mattresses to memory foam pillow top, purchased Thomasville’s Hemingway Collection furniture in all rooms, bought all new lounge chairs for the pool area, replanted our gardens, added a chef to our staff to custom prepare our complimentary breakfasts, added numerous original art sculptures to the Gardens, etc. etc. etc.

I am honestly taken aback that anyone on our staff would ever be rude (we did also receive the award from Tripadvisor for “Best Service 2009) and of course, value that highly. I am unsure of what this reviewers’ request could have been that would have been denied, as we are always appreciative of our many repeat guests and Always attempt to accommodate any special needs they may have.

I do of course understand that you can’t please all of the people all of the time, but that is our wish at The Gardens Hotel. I have invited this reviewer to contact me personally to see what exactly their issue is so that we may be able to attempt to rectify it and make them happy. We are in the Hospitality business, we know that and very much value all of our guests, past, present and future. We always look forward to welcoming our returning guests and are proud when they notice our continual efforts to provide them with the true Key West experience in the Best Hidden Gem.

Respectfully submitted,

We stumbled on the hotel late on Sunday afternoon and were welcomed by a jazz band and a glass of champagne. That set the tone for 2 wonderful days and nights. Superb hospitality, luxurious rooms and a really special garden, complete with pool and hot (very hot!) tub, we couldn't have wished for anything more. We all recommend this lovely tranquil hotel, just a stroll for Duvall St and the heart of Key West. We will be back to The Gardens Hotel.
