The reviewer which titled his review "God Awful" is the only one you need to read. I feel tricked by the reviews which labeled this as a good find. Figuring only ONE guy gave it a signficantly poor review I hoped for the best, but he nailed it SPOT ON. This was by FAR the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was downright claustrophobic. The room was NOT clean. The floors were NOT vacuumed and even the coffee cups and glasses were filthy! The comments about ambulance and police using Eaton were correct also. Every single night I was awakened in a panic at the piercing sirens which easily came through the 1" gap at the bottom of our door. The other thing which wasn't mentioned is that the island has rented scooters all over, many of which use little 2-stroke engines (think weed-eater) and those go right past your door at 3 a.m. This hotel is RIGHT on the street with about 6-7 parking spaces for 17 rooms. I parked 2 blocks away for 3 out of 3 nights... even coming home at 10 p.m. didn't get me a parking space on the street. "Don't be fooled by the photo"? That's an understatement. I think the place looks good in the photos, but it is in fact, shoe-horned inbetween a couple houses, a warehouse and a hardware store. I was ashamed of myself all weekend for booking this hotel. This ONE choice virtually ruined my enjoyment of Key West. ALL the statements in the "God Awful" review are so true. After staying in Key West for the past four days it's become obvious that you ONLY want to be on Duval or one street away either side... unless you can afford one of the truly "resort hotels" which will give you the right balance of social partying and some relaxing time alone before a sound sleep. This hotel is NOT within reasonable walking distance of Duval! A bike ride? Yes. Scooters? Sure. Walking? You'll be a burned up mess before you even get to Duval... and when you get there do you know what you do? WALK and look around! Would you walk to the track to go jogging? By the time you get to Duval you've already walked a half mile! Here's the summary; The Budget Key West had the worst quality bed of any I've ever slept in, and the tiny room offered no escape from the sounds of traffic, police, or even the other rooms! This was a hard lesson learned and I'm truly sad that I blew it by not booking something else (ON Duval or RIGHT off it). After reading these reviews and staying at the BKW I couldn't wait to get home and set this record straight. The picture I posted is from the top of our refrigerator in room 1. This is one of TWO state issued notices to let us know that nothing in the room is sanitized! This picture really does say it all... but I added the picture of the road work just for your enjoyment. As if the rest of our stay here wasn't bad enough this is what woke us up on the last day!
