My wife booked/planned our trip to the Keys and this motel. We were there for 4 nights.

I'll start with the positves. We felt it is a good location. The staff seemed helpful. Away from the loud nightlife that Duval street has to offer. Walking distance to several decent beaches. The Cuban store acrros the street has a nice market and also has a walk-up window for a nice breakfast or lunch. Oh, by the way, the Cuban coffee is great.

There are also some nice restaurants within walking distance such as Camille's and Louie's Backyard.

Now the negitives:
We stayed in #11. As far as why I'll never stay there again, the paint is falling off the walls, the walls are filthy, the porch lights never go out at night causing the room to never really darken, the bathroom looks worn out, the bathroom door wouldn't latch. Also the beds are worn out. It was definetly the worst motel room I've ever stayed in.

I feel it wouldn't take a large investment to make the inside look as nice as the outside.

Another problem in the area is the number of homeless people. Now I know that doesn't reflect on the motel, It just seems to be a big problem in Key West.

So, if you are looking at price only, and don't need anything more than a bed, it MAY be right for you. However, I'll be checking around next time for something better.

The hotel was very nice dont let the outside fool you. The price of the room was very good. The staff was very friendly and offered advice on places to see and restaurants that wont break your pockets. The pool was very very clean and big. I liked the fact that a store was across the street and if you wanted to rent a bike, scooter or a eletric car that was across the street. I would recomend this hotel to everyone I dont know about you all but I would rather pay a decent price for a hotel and use my money on other things in the keys. The staff was very helpful and respectful. I will be going back very soon. Thank you

Okay, this isn't the Ritz. We can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for a motel. At the last minute we decided to go to Florida for my school system's spring break and wanted to spend a couple of nights in Key West. We got there around 9:30 p.m., stopped in this place, and got the last room for $80--waaaaay less than I'd expected. Several cats were running around, a plus in my opinion.

I don't remember if we had a double or queen bed; doesn't matter. We were in Key West. We had a cottage right on the sidewalk and I'd expected it to be loud in the morning, but it was fine. The pool is big enough; there were chairs for lying in the sun. It was March, for heaven's sake, so I didn't go into the pool.

The manager was very friendly.

In Key West, anything under $100 a night in season is a real bargain, so I didn't expect the best place on the island. I was just happy to be there for a short time. The location is perfect, one block off lower Duval, close to the Southernmost House and Southernmost Point. Camille's is a few blocks away; it's a locals' place with good, inexpensive food.

I'd definitely go back here again.

We went down to Key West for the parrothead convention and then stayed a few extra days to make a week vacation out of it, stayed the first 4 nights at the Wyndham Reach (fabulous by the way)...the last 3 night we were to stay at the Southwinds.
~First off, I've had closets bigger than these rooms - there is nothing "spacious" about them. Everything is made out of concrete - gives you that nice cell block feeling.
~The remote to the TV was no where to be found
~There were a total of 3 outlets...only two were open and available. Tried charging my cell phone in the bathroom outlet and the only way the power would charge is if we left the bathroom light on!
~The queen bed was disgusting beyond belief, no fitted sheet...just two top sheets. Stains on the mattresses and laying down on it you could feel the springs thru the mattress.
~The kicker for me was that the bathroom door would not close. Apparently from the hurricane damage the door was swollen or some lame excuse. I mean I was staying with my boyfriend whom I live with - but if I want to close the door to pee in privacy I dont think that is too much to ask for!!
I right away brought these issues to the hotel's attention and got no appology, no remedies, no compensation. Needless to say we stayed only one night and then moved across the street to the blue Marlin Motel - same price but it got us a bigger heated pool, bigger room, king size bed, later check out time, microwave (in addition to the fridge), sitting area with table and chairs.
