My wife booked/planned our trip to the Keys and this motel. We were there for 4 nights.
I'll start with the positves. We felt it is a good location. The staff seemed helpful. Away from the loud nightlife that Duval street has to offer. Walking distance to several decent beaches. The Cuban store acrros the street has a nice market and also has a walk-up window for a nice breakfast or lunch. Oh, by the way, the Cuban coffee is great.
There are also some nice restaurants within walking distance such as Camille's and Louie's Backyard.
Now the negitives:
We stayed in #11. As far as why I'll never stay there again, the paint is falling off the walls, the walls are filthy, the porch lights never go out at night causing the room to never really darken, the bathroom looks worn out, the bathroom door wouldn't latch. Also the beds are worn out. It was definetly the worst motel room I've ever stayed in.
I feel it wouldn't take a large investment to make the inside look as nice as the outside.
Another problem in the area is the number of homeless people. Now I know that doesn't reflect on the motel, It just seems to be a big problem in Key West.
So, if you are looking at price only, and don't need anything more than a bed, it MAY be right for you. However, I'll be checking around next time for something better.
