“Excellent location, decent enough, but unsure if it gets a recommendation”

Location was really great. Off street parking, walkable to Higgs Beach, Southernmost Point, main part of Duval, ect.

Room was tiny- #25. Smelled a little mildewy/public-restroom-esque when we first got there, but seemed to improve by day two (maybe we got used to it)

Small mediocre bed, passable bathroom, not much room to put things. But you are in Key West and that is great!

Two pools, not great but good enough for a dip.

Front desk personnel were pleasant, though the cleaning crew is pretty bad. We were out all day and when we returned at 4- 4:30, our room hadn't been touched. They only have like 35 rooms? I walked past a room that they were servicing, where the one maid was working, while two others were just hanging out in the room listening to music. I ended up just grabbing some towels and skipping the cleaning service. By that point, we needed to shower and get ready for the night.

Price was one of the cheapest rates in an expensive town, but I would hesitate to recommend because the place is pretty rough around the edges. It will not do for persnickety types. If you are a flexible person who realizes that you aren't spending much time in the room, it's worth a shot. We had a blast in Key West and look forward to coming down again.

We have been visiting Key West for the last 15 years and stayed at the Ocean Breeze, which has now been bought by the management of Southwinds. What a disappoint we experienced. Our room, which we request all of the time (Room #7) now Room 36, had no dresser. We kept asking about this and left a message with the manager inquiring how we were to store our clothes. No one seemed to care. We never heard back from the manager either. Housekeeping staff did not fully clean the room. We got clean towels & toilet paper only when we happen to see them cleaning other rooms and we would ask. So sorry that this one-time great place to stay has lost it's personal touch with friendly owners.

Its a 1-2 minute walk to the Southern Most Point. Close enough to the bar district to walk, but not too close to keep you up at night.

We usually dealt with Andrew at the front desk. Quick check-in and friendly service. We got what we needed quickly (ice, towels, etc.)

Room was clean and larger than we expected.

It was nice to sit outside on the porch with some drinks.

Pool was good. Bed and Coffee maker were so-so. Air-Conditioning and TVs were superb.

There is a small grocery store across the street.

Great place to escape the winter.

We had one of the rooms right on the street with a lovely porch. After our day spent on Duval Street we came back to the room tired and ready to relax. It was nice to sit out on the porch and enjoy the weather and the sounds of the area. Nothing fancy, but a very nice and clean room. Enjoyed our stay.

First and foremost your hotel needs to be a place to get a good nights sleep. The mattress in our overly small room was so worn out we had to build a mountain of pillow in between my wife and myself to keep from rolling downhill to the center. There's just no excuse when a $300 a night room has a mattress that's so worn you can't sleep. The room was clean, the breakfast terrible.
I can't recommend this place as a place to stay.

Southwinds Motel was our first stop in Key West. Andrew was at the desk and was super friendly and helpful to everyone who stopped into the office. When it was out turn to check in he gave us all the information we needed to start off our first vacation in Key West. Our room was just behind the office with a small walkway between where some people did walk through.

The room itself was amazing especially considering this was a motel. We had a nice living room area with a comfortable couch, flat screen tv, kitchen area, and a cozy modern comfy bed with a nice flat screen tv. Because this was Key West I never watched the tv. Another nice touch was a front porch with two chairs.

The price is high for a motel, but not for the area especially considering the location which is one block away from Duval St. It was wonderful to simply walk to the center of all the activity and then a quick walk home at the end of the evening.

I have two recommendations for the motel: 1) some sort of curtain for the bedroom window. Blinds didn't provide the comfort level I'd like. 2) The pipe coming from the wall for the shower head is too long causing the water to hit high on the wall.

The staff also offered to allow us to leave our car in the lot the next afternoon following checkout so we could continue Key West for the day.

It was a great spot. The motel was very clean. I highly recommend it and would choose this spot again.

Room was very small, cost very high. It was clean and the location was great. They did have private parking and the staff were very helpful. The bed was small and not very comfortable. We were able to check in early and free Wifi. Overall we were close to all attractions and that is the main reason we were there!

Dear Southwinds Motel Guest,
Thank you for your comments and really appreciate your business.

I apologize that you could not give us a better rating due to the size of the room. I'm glad you enjoyed our locations and how clean the room was.

Next visit to Southwinds Motel we will upgrade you to a larger room and Yes, Key West is a pricey place to visit. We try to offer the best rate in town.

Again thank you,

Sincerely,
Steve M.
