“Would recommend to anyone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

I was slightly nervous about booking this hotel because I found some of the reviews to be all over the place. We stayed here for 2 nights (Nov. 19 and 20th). We arrived to the hotel around noon even though check in wasn't until 4 and they told us that our room was ready. We were really shocked and grateful. The room you could tell had just been remodeled and was beautiful and had an awesome walk in shower. The pools were always very clean and we loved the fact that we got access to the beach, which is really just a 3 minute walk. The only downfall I would have to say would be the drink prices at the pool bars. It was $20 for 2 pina coladas. We quickly changed to drinking beer at the pool :-). The location is excellent located at the end of Duval Street. We walked everywhere and had no problems. Would highly recommend eating at the Banana Cafe, The Flaming Buoy (if you are looking for a really nice meal), and 951. Have fun you will not be disappointed.

I was very apprehensive regarding this hotel, because the good reviews just kept flowing, with minimal negatives in-between. You know, the thing that it's too good to be true? Not this time.

There is not much to add to the sea of positive reviews, so I'll just try to point out a few things.
1. Construction: There is some construction still going on, but it won't bother you. First, because the hotel will put you in an area that is away from it, even if it involves an upgrade. Second, because any noise can be efficiently blocked by the excellent sound isolation of the balcony doors. We booked a fountain balcony kind and were upgraded upon check-in to a poolview balcony king, top floor.
2. Rooms: Our poolview balcony king had been recently remodeled. As spacious as a typical Hampton Inn room, with nice furniture, decorated in good taste, and an excellent 42" Samsung LCD TV with a ton of DirectTV channels (not the usual hotel menu-based crap that you encounter all over the US). The room also has a refrigerator, iron and ironing board, safe, hair dryer, coffee machine. The only thing we felt was missing was a microwave.
3. Customer service: The moment you enter this hotel you are overwhelmed by the professionalism and kindness of the personnel. Everybody is very nice. I have to distinctly point out Patrick from the reception desk; as first impressions go, our encounter is probably the top one with any receptionist ever. My check-in took about 3 minutes or less, because everything had been prepared in advance for me; I could see the stack of paperwork grouped by guest behind Patrick. Once he had my last name, he just double-checked a few things with me, explained to me in detail the layout of the property and the services I could enjoy, including at the Southernmost on the Beach sister hotel, and off I went. When arriving to our room, we had a welcoming voicemail waiting for us and a card from the cleaning service on our bed; the shocking part, in line with the fantastic customer-oriented vision the management must have, was that the cleaning service offered the option of having our room cleaned at a certain hour every day, based on our schedule. We did not use this option, but we were impressed by it. We had stayed at 5-star hotels before and had not encountered this attention to detail even there.
4. Internet: I was able to have 3-5 lines of wireless connection on the top floor. The connection was fast, when it worked; there were moments with decreased responsiveness. Overall, I would say an above average Internet connection.
5. Fees: What's that? Not only there are no resort fees here, but you get to use all the facilities at the Southernmost On The Beach sister hotel. That includes free beach chairs. Even the room numbers are continuous between the two hotels, suggesting an unified view of the property and its guests. Parking was also free and plentiful.
6. Location: The hotel is on the quiet end of Duval street, a 10-15 minute walk away from the busier part. A leisurely walk to the other end of Duval street took us about 30-40 minutes. It's an excellent location; we felt very secure at all times, and there were no roosters to wake us up. :-)
7. Beach: The SMOTB has a small beach, where one could even swim if one so desires. The Cafe is right next to the beach, nothing to write home about.
8. Pools: The buildings at the Southernmost are grouped around one of the three pools (out of which one is under construction now). The pools are beautiful and big, between 4 and 6 feet in depth, surrounded by plenty of chaises longues. A very smart solution with a small fountain jet at each corner of the pool creates a white noise sound barrier, so that one is not bothered by noises from the pool or the tiki bar next to it. The pools and buildings are also surrounded by luscious tropical vegetation.
9. Price: If you book well ahead of time, you will get a rate that it's difficult to beat by any similar quality establishment in the area. I would say we paid about 50% less than we were quoted for other top quality hotels.
10. Negatives: Very few, if any, like finding dirty bed linen in the elevator on the night of our arrival. But nobody is perfect, mistakes happen, and even the perfect blue sky can have a few clouds. As long as they are small and pass fast, who cares? This 5-day stay was probably one of my best hotel experiences in the last decade. I and my wife were thoroughly impressed and looking forward to come back soon. Psst, don't tell anybody about it!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 399, a poolview balcony king on the top floor, and were extremely happy with it.

We stayed for 3 nights late November and it was beautiful. The bed was comfy, room was clean, bathroom was really nice with a walk in shower. Room was modern and must've just been updated. Location is great steps away from the beach for half the price of stAying at southernmost on the beach

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 11/19/12 and 11/20/12. This hotel is awesome. The room is absolutley beautiful. The bathroom is AWESOME. It has a huge walk-in shower. The bed was very comfortable. The location is great. The pools are beautiful. We had no complaints. Everyone was very friendly and the room was very clean. We will definitely stay at this hotel when we return to Key West.

Just returned from another (8th year in a row) trip to Key West, again staying at the Southernmost Hotel. As usual, everyone was so nice, helpful and very friendly. Special thanks to Luis and Cindy who, again, went above and beyond at the front desk to make our stay great. Thanks to Elizabeth Isaac, who we will be re-booking with again for next year, yes our 9th year in a row at this hotel. Gene and his landscaping crew had the grounds looking lush and beautiful. Durk delivered our microwave right away to our room with a great attitude. The Steel Drums guy, who performed again at the pool this year on Thursday is so good, keep him every year, maybe even every day!! Shelly, Rhonda and the pool guys were so friendly and gave us sunny days almost every day and beautiful postcards to send home. Boomer kept the pool games going and yes, he said I could post that I was the only one, so far, who beat him at the Wallyhook Ring Game---thanks for all my great prizes, really a lot of fun. Had delicious breakfasts every morning at the SM Beach Cafe and Patrick was an excellent waiter and very nice and friendly. Cathy Zent went out of her way to find me the right size shirt over there too. Great HH and delicious food there too.

Thanks again to all of these special people and everyone who works there, all of this keeps us coming back every year!!!

Best hotel property in Key West! Clean rooms, great staff and great food. One of the main things about this property is the ease of getting around. The way it is set up you can easily walk to the three pools, two bars, the outstanding beach or the cafe which has great food. The staff is outstanding. Everybody we spoke with had been back two and three times. We just got back yesterday and are already planning our trip to the Southernmost Hotel next year!

Room Tip: If you want to save money on your room stay at the Southernmost instead of Southernmost on the beach...

Our 3rd time at this hotel collection. Key West is my fav place on earth and the Southernmost is by far the best stay in KW. Great selection of pools and bars. One of the best restaurants on the island. In a relaxed comfortable environment where everyone makes you feel welcome and wanted. All the bars and bartenders were so fun that we spent most of our time there. Boomer's fun games were a riot for adults. I won "valadrunktorian" 2 times! And the concierge was very help and knowledgeable about what to do and where to go. The hotel has its own beach - rare in KW. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms which was big, beautiful and very comfortable with stunning tile in the bath and the most comfortable bed I ever slept in. And we'll never stay anywhere else. Thanks for all you do to make our vacation wonderful and memorable.
