We got married on the beach in Key West last summer and stayed here for the week. We stayed in the Cigar House and loved our room, it was more like a small apartment with a kitchen, living room, and balcony over looking the pool. We were able to walk almost everywhere. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful grounds, nice clean rooms, and walking distance to just about everywhere. My husband and I shared a 2 bedroom suite with another couple. We took advantage of a special they offered for April - stay 2 nights, 3rd night free. Great value for what we were looking for. We didn't need an on site restaurant, a business center, any of that. We were on vacation to relax, and enjoy ISLAND TIME in Key West.

Very friendly and helpful staff, too! The free breakfast down in the alcove was nice too. Bagels, toast, cereal, fruit, orange juice, coffee...

They also offer daily bike rental. Excellent idea - there were a few things that were just far enough to not want to walk. My husband and I also rented an electric car while we were there and drove all over - highly recommend that as well!
Staying here gave us the essence of old Key West.

Island City House is the perfect place if you want a small apartment instead of the common room that really only gives you a place to sleep. We stayed in the Carriage House facing Eaton St. on the second floor. The room had a large bathroom, nice kitchenette and the bed was tucked away in an alcove. Staying here was great because it was very clean, the service was excellent and the grounds were absolutly beautiful! It had a nice saltwater pool and garden areas. Unlike mosr B & B's, Island City also had an ice machine/ice buckets and dishes for guests There was also a coin-op laundry machine so you don't have to pack a lot if you don't want to.
There are cats all over the property, which adds to the charm. Everyone there was very friendly and answered any questions cheerfully. Our room, #5 had a large shared porch that faced the street. It had a nice chair and a porch swing. This had to have been the cleanest porch I have ever seen! The cleaning service lady does an excellent job inside and outside. I actually had to refuse her offer of fresh towels after the second day because we believe in conserving water, and besides who changes the towels at home every two days anyway...

Some other guests posting on TA had complained about noise coming from Eaton St. I didn't notice any more noise than we have at home in Largo, FL. Sure, you will hear scooters and cars going down the street, but hey, this IS a residential area after all.

Breakfast selections were average. I would have liked to see some danishes, donuts or maybe some bowles of fruit salad, but they did have fruit, tea, coffee, juice, crossants, muffins and yougart. Tip: grab an apple or a bunch a grapes for later; you'll welcome the snack after walking around Key West all day.

I would recommend this place to anyone who wants something between the "big box" hotels and a tiny B & B. This is a larger than average property and is probably one of the only places with large rooms and kitchens.

We have stayed at various places on Key West for a few years now and were driven out of our previous fave by increased prices. We decided to give ICH a try based on the good reviews online and by the relatively reasonable prices and we were not disappointed. Our queen suite was lovely, if decorated in a manner (Victorian) that I was surprised to see on the island. The full kitchen was wonderful to have. The bathrooms are very nice and seem brand new, and the place was SPOTLESS. I was really stunned by how clean it was. The grounds are well-kept, and the staff very nice. Rental bikes are available on-site, but next time we will rent them off-site as the prices were a bit high for the somewhat shoddy bikes (you are paying for the convenience, I guess). We will definitely return, but we had two problems with the place: 1. We were told we had a private porch. It was in no manner private as it is located along the stairs on the way down from the upper floors, so people are walking in and out of your porch, essentially, all day. It is a private-use porch, with no privacy (I like to sit outside in my pjs in the morning, and I didn't feel comfortable doing that). 2. The breakfast, while very nice, desperately needs some manner of protein, like hard boiled eggs or cheese. When we stayed muffins, bread for toast, bagels, yogurt, granola bars and fruit were provided. They were all high-quality, but we both wished for some protein. Like I said, we will return, but will keep these issues in mind when we book again.
