Great place to stay! My husband and I tend to be picky but we really couldn't find anything to complain about at the Galleon. The room was perfect - clean, spacious, quiet (save the roosters all over Key West who like to wake you up at 5 am - but they are literally EVERYWHERE). Otherwise, we were in Bldg A and there was NO noise from the street or the pool/bar or from other rooms. Beds were comfy, bathrooms were very modern and clean. The pool was very nice, there was plenty of space and chairs for sunbathing and the hot tub was very nice. The breakfast cafe was easy and convenient. We def enjoyed the tiki bar. We had 6 people in a 2BR w a pullout sofa. The pullout sofa wasn't the most comfortable but that's too be expected. The only disadvantage to this hotel is they don't clean the rooms but once per week - bc it's actually a timeshare resort. But they gave us extra towels etc. THe location was perfect - it was right by the Harbor Walk w lots of good restaurants. Right by the water. And about a block and a half from Mallory Square and the start of Duval St. Couldn't have picked a better place for New Years w friends.

I can only believe that owners are posting positive reviews because the accomodations were the worst that I have ever stayed in at a timeshare. As a family of 6, I rent timeshares often when we travel. They SHOULD BE comfortable.
1.The mattress on the pull out couch was thin and warped, resulting in poor nights sleep for my teens. The cot, that my youngest needed, was so thin that the frame was practically poking through the mattress, hurting his back.
2. Only one telephone in the Suite? So if the phone rings and your in bed, you need to get up and go to the kitchen.
3. Ordered lunch from the Tiki Bar one day- it was awful and not even fit for a dog. If you dont believe me, try it for yourself.

On the positive side, great location, easy walk to Duval and restaurants by the marina, nice pool. Toby the manager was pleasant but could not assist me as I had rented directly through an owner.

Stayed in a 2 bed in December 2012 as an RCI exchange guest. This resort is truly worth of its Gold Crown status. The location is excellent, next to the historic seaport and marina and a very short walk from all of the excitement of Duval Street, but far enough away to be quiet – which was important to us. Nice bars and restaurants within 3 minutes’ walk.

If you are looking for accommodation in Key West, then check carefully where it is as some streets are very busy and noisy – anything near Duval/ Mallory Square or the main roads will be noisy with either party folk or traffic. A lot of the historic B&Bs we looked at were on busy roads and had small rooms. A lot of people come to Key West to party, so check the noise policy – some of the B&Bs we looked at allowed noise until midnight, which seemed late to us.

The resort staff were helpful and friendly and met our needs, and everywhere was super clean and tidy. The resort is managed very well and it very well cared for.

In terms of the accommodation then we had a 4th floor 2 bed unit overlooking the marina, which was huge. The master bedroom has an enormous bed (bigger than our super king back home) with full length windows opening to a balcony, and then a large en-suite, recently renovated and has a super marble & limestone bathroom (walk in marble shower and deep soaking tub) & 2 sinks, and the standard of the bathroom was better than a lot of 5 star hotels I have stayed in. The lounge/kitchen diner was all open plan and spacious, again with full length windows opening to a balcony. The kitchen was small and a bit dated but well equipped and included a washer and drier which we used all of the time as the weather was hot and very humid. The second bedroom was also large – a bit darker and no view, but it did have its own shower room – very handy having 2 bathrooms if there are more than 2 of you. We did not use the sofa bed, but as the lounge furniture was a little uncomfortable then I am not sure how comfy it would be. The decor is modern TiKi, and all of the units have a programme of renovation in place, bathrooms have just been done. All units have very efficient aircon – which we used as it was so humid. One thing to mention, that there is no starter/welcome pack of tea/coffee in the unit, so if like us, you had been travelling from the UK for over 20 hours, you should pick something up first!

We had a super balcony, where we spent most of our time, overlooking the marina and we could see manatees swimming in the marina from our room, together with lots of pelicans, white herons and egrets. Some rooms overlooked the pool and poolside bar, where there was live music every night – that would have been too noisy for us but it all depends on what you want – we like quiet!

In terms of the location then as Key West is very compact, we did not use our hire car – the resort provides 1 free parking pace per unit (note it is per unit not per person) and parking is at a premium in Key West with high parking charges as most on street parking is chargeable – so unless you are planning day trips I would not rent a car again – ours sat in the garage most of the week. Everyone rents bikes and cycles or electric car/golf cart type things or walks.

In terms of food, if you decide to self-cater, then I recommend Fasto’s Food Palace who will deliver your groceries for free if you spend over a certain amount. We found Key West to be a very expensive destination for everything including eating out, so did a combination of self-catering and light meals out. However the drinks are cheap!

We were due to go to another report in Marathon the following week, but when we went to look at it, it looked quite basic and as such, we decided to stay at The Galleon and pay for a few more nights as we could not improve on the standard or the location – for us it offered fantastic value of money in a superb location.

In terms of trips we did the Danger Cruises boat sunset sail and wine tasting which was very good, we did the full Danger day sail, snorkel and kayak which was Ok and the day trip to the Dry Tortugas – which I would recommend and will review separately. We also went swimming with Dolphins at Marathon Key at the Dolphin Research Centre which was very expensive but a great 'once in a lifetime' thing to do.

We stay here twice a year and love it. The location is outstanding, a short walk to everything and the hotel rooms have some outstanding views and have recently been re-done. I would recommend this place to anyone.
