“Great location - lots of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Traveled to Key West Dec. 2-4 for a quick 15th anniversary getaway without the kids. We found the hotel to be very charming, clean, suited our needs perfectly. It is right in the heart of Duval Street, lots going on right outside the door. It is further from the beaches, so you would need to drive, get a pedi-cab or ride a bike to the beach. Walking distance to many attractions - Mallory Square, Hemingway House, Lighthouse and Sloppy Joe's. Our room was small, we had a standard king size bed room. But, the furnishings were very nice, all dark woods and palm leaf fans, slatted shutters on the windows. It is an old hotel which has been renovated - there is a handout at the front desk explaining the history. It is quiet this time of year, so I can't speak for the busy seasons, but even being on Duval, it was quiet. We didn't hear people in other rooms or in the hallway. We did not take advantage of the rooftop bar, but we did lay by the pool, a small pool, but nice and had it's own bar. I would definitely stay here again, had a great trip.

From the moment we arrived, the service left a lot to be desired. Two men stood at the curb, neither one moving in our direction, had to ask for assistance after taking our own suitcases out of the trunk. Upon arriving in our 4 floor, very small room with view of the roof below, we descovered the frig did not work, phoned front desk for help, man showed up with a smaller version which wouldn't fit, then the frig started working, froze over and the next morning, we phoned again for help, was informed nothing could be done, they had no replacements, no one even came to see if it could be fixed. This room had 2 double beds (which were quite confortable) 1 small coffee pot that makes 2 cups and one pack of regular coffee and one pack of decafe. Second day housekeepping showed up at 4:30 PM. No washcloths in room that day. No Concierge in lobby most of the time, no english speaking room service, no lobby treats, like coffee or such. This room was 365 a night. We compained about the no frige, no wash cloths, having to ask for extra coffee and was rebated back 39.00 for the valet parking upon leaving. Would never recommend this hotel. The Manager, Jason was less than compasionate and had littlle to offer. Not worth the price at all. Also, as for the rooftop, they had the biggest portion roped off for a wedding party but then that party also took over the other part of the roof too. And as a last mayor complaint, walking barefoot in the bathroom over the threshold, carpet tacks stuck my feet on more than one occassion.

Room Tip: Nothing to recommend. Wasn't offered anything. Take a fat wallet and be prepaired to help yourse...

We did not stay here but were told that the view from the rooftop bar is worthwhile and it was good advise. Low key bar and able to walk around and see the island from the highest structure. Sunset was worth the price of a drink.met some friendly people too!

I've stayed here before, but not on this trip. I remember it being very nice and would recommend the hotel if someone asked... but that is not what this is about. Anyone visiting Key West must go to the rooftop bar to watch the sunset. Get there early though if you want a seat, because this is no hidden secret. The drinks were strong and the views were awesome... best view of Key West, easily. During our visit, we got a little extra view from one of the locals. You'll see what I mean if Trip Advisor approves the picture... this review title won't make sense otherwise.

The employee at the front desk Caroline was very professional. The staff and room service was excellent. I stayed in the room with a balcony on Doval st and we loved it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. My girlfriend and I had an excellent time and we will be back. My hat goes off to Mel as well, sales manager. You are the bomb....

Room Tip: The room with a balcony on Doval....

Super location...friendly staff...beautiful lobby...clean rooms. The view from the roof top bar is great but the bar itself is too generic..very plain...if they redesigned the bar it could be the #1 spot to visit in KW. If you need silence to sleep we didn't find it. The flush toilets are loud, and the neighbors walls seem thin. Also, the key west eagles (roosters) take some getting used to.
They like to "call" each other at any time of night. But!, we had a great stay at this hotel! Did I mention great location?...can't be beat. Check out Jack Flaps nearby for the best hamburger in town....all their food looked good...also the Conch Repulic down by the historic seaside walk for the best seafood...good oysters and good mohitos...enjoy

Room Tip: rooms away from Duval street are probably quiter...we had room 307

First, I didn't get the room type that I booked. As a platinum member, I was supposed to get it. Of course, they didn't recognize me as a platinum member either, which is not the case with Priority Club.

This hotel is very dirty. We had bad bugs, but they didn't change our room soon after waiting for over 40 minutes. We had to call Customer Relations at Priority Club...then the hotel found another room. We didn't hear any apologies. The manager was supposed to call us, but of course the person was either having fun or doing whatever and didn't call us.

The breakfast was bad...and they put 18% of the service charge automatically without any proper service. Unless it is free, avoid this restaurant. The food is so so...but expensive. The waiters are also rude at the restaurant. It will be a terrible mistake to eat in this restaurant if you have to stay at the hotel.

They have lots of customers because of the location. This was the most disgusting and unpleasant stay I've ever had. On the second day, our room was not cleaned. The people at the front desk do not even say hello to you even when they are not doing anything.
