“Falling standards.......Rip off!!!!”

Days Inn Key West Inn & Lodge

Sep 16, 2008

Althought it looked clean to the eyes, I found a small roach "walking" by the nigh table.
The room door couldn't be locked from the inside because the knob was broken. Apparently they know it and it is been broken for long time because there was a "door chain" at the top. (at least that) The safe wasn't working either, and nither was working the bathtub faucet.
Talking abouth bath, the shower curtain was broken at the top, the soup they provide smells ugly and so was the pillow. I had to spray some cologne over my pillow to be able to sleep.
On top, the air conditioning noise was unbeatable.
Their website shows a "breakfast area picture" but they do not provide any breakfast, just coffe. It is a totally misleading advertising to make the price acceptable.
It could be the cheapest in the list but I seriously question where are the hotel standard priciples for hygiene and confort.
At $30.00 rate it could be acceptable but at $90.00 it is a rip off!

I wanted a quick weekend get away and chose Key West (never been before). Since this was a quick guys weekend, we wanted to keep costs down and a place to sleep. So I pricelined the hotel and ended up with the Days Inn for $80 a night. The place was exactly what I expected. The hotel itself was ok. We checked in late at night and the front desk person was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and updated but the room safe did not work. We weren't worried about the safe since we weren't leaving much in the room. The hotel is right at the entrance of Key West so having the rental car was helpful since most of the activity is around Duvall street. Parking at Days Inn is free. The next time I go to Key West I will look around Duvall. There seem to be bed and breakfast as well as other small hotels for not much more a night. As expected the guests at the Days Inn were a real mix of people.. young singles, families etc. At night, I got the sense it is not a good area. I saw one individual walk toward the car with a small bag of something, we signaled "no" and drove off. The front desk person told us that breakfast was provided but it "wasn't much". I appreciated the honesty. There is a Waffle House attached which we did not utilize. We preferred to eat at one of the many great places around the Keys. One afternoon, we were a bit tired so we went back and tried the pool. The pool was clean but the water was hot, which is what I expected, again this is the Days Inn and we are in Key West in August.
The Days Inn is an ok place to stay. I felt safe being with friends but would not have felt comfortable if I went on my own. I would check into hotels/bed and breakfast around Duvall Street, especially if you are not bringing a car. If you do have a car and plan on staying around Duvall you will need to ask about parking. A few of the places did not provide parking.

I had read the reviews before I booked this accommodation for the night, so I figured my stay would be a crap shoot and could go either way. I was looking for an economical place for my wife, my 23 year old son and me to plop our bodies down for one night after arriving at Key West in the afternoon and sampling South Beach that same afternoon and Mallory Square and Duval Street later in the evening. (We drove in from Cocoa Beach and stayed here on Tuesday, July 29th.)
It was pretty much what I had expected from the reviews so there were really no surprises. The property is situated at the eastern end of Key West. Because we had our own car, getting to Duval Street, Mallory Square, and the beach were not a problem. (I was already prepared to pay 15 bucks for a parking place by Mallory Square so it didn’t bother me when the parking attendant hit me up for the money.) I wouldn’t recommend this property for those without their own transportation.
Upon opening the door to our second floor room I did kill a bug or two, but that was the extent of the creepy crawlers. I didn’t consider this a big deal. Although the room was a bit worn looking, the bedding was clean and the carpet wasn’t that bad. The shower was hot and there were enough towels for the three of us. As mentioned in a previous review, there was a good size gap between the door and the floor but nothing that a bath towel couldn’t fix. Our room was in the back of the facility so there was no problem with noise. We saw the roosters but never heard them in the morning. Our night was very restful.
The continental breakfast in the morning was what I refer to as filler food. It consisted of wrapped up Danish, some juice and fruit. It was nothing to write home about, but it was something to give you some energy to get you moving. And that’s really all that we were looking for.
If you are planning on using this place as headquarters for a full week’s stay in Key West, you may end up frustrated and disappointed. But if you are just looking for a place to sleep for a night or two, and for a pretty cheap price - $110 for the night, taxes included, then this place should fit the bill for you.

Place looks scary from the outside and is VERY dark at night. Suites are huge and seem to have been redone(our full size fridege still had the tape on the crispers) and it was comfy, bed wasnt the best but it worked. The foot traffic sucked it was going on most of the night. We had planned to stay for two night but did just one.

this was our first trip to key west. we were staying for a week with a teenage son. we were so glad we booked a suite, for the additional room. the suite was the size of a one bedroom apartment. the main bedroom was a separate room. the furnishings were sparse but adequate. there were 2 tv's, 2 a/c units which worked fine, one bath with 2 entrances, basic but clean; an island with 2 bar stools, a full size kitchen sink and full size refridgerator and micro; 2 closets and a sofa sleeper. we were on the back side ,so noise was not a problem; nor parking. the room was dimly lit, so we did have to ask for replacement light bulbs to replace the burnt out ones, and for additional towels. the room was clean, no smell, bugs or obvious stains. well worth the extra $10 US per night for the suite to get the extra space. the local chickens were a joy to watch, and not a nuisance at all. there was even a long-legged white water bird that flew into the pool area one day! the continental breakfast is very skimpy, and there's no where to sit.
